  • Shockwave will not install on Windows 7?

I recently downloaded the most up to date installer for Adobe Shockwave, but when I try to install (with both 'Slim' and 'Full' installers) I get an 'Error opening file for writing'. Retry doesn't work, and if I ignore the current file write, the next file gets the same error. I can't seem to get it to install.

I've checked and double checked the compatibility, and it's supposed to work for all Windows 7 platforms. I've also closed all programs and made sure nothing was conflicting with the install. I've used the compatibility manager to lower it down to Vista/XP and even ran it as admin with no luck.

Can someone with knowledge of this problem help me out? Other programs all install fine except Adobe Shockwave.

    Thanks for your time!

  • My computer turns on, but there is no image sent to my display. What could be at fault?

Before I explain in detail, I just want to say that my tech experience is pretty decent, but no way on par with a trained IT specialist. Just fyi.

So recently (well about a month ago), my computer started to BSOD frequently, and after, my video card would 'stutter', for the lack of better words. I would get the warning that 'the display adapter stopped working and successfully recovered'. Then one day, I got a BSOD, but there was no driver named. From that time on, my computer would turn on, but there would be no POST beeps, or display from my monitor. Keep in mind, that I've also been experiencing PSU issues, such as the machine not cold starting unless I let the tower sit for a while, while off. And I had to resort to changing the voltage on the back of the PSU and right back just to get the initial power to boot.

Sorry if that was a lot of information to take in. As of right now, I'm still not getting any display or beeps upon boot. I suspect it to be a faulty video card, but that doesn't explain why I'm not getting any POST error beeps (tested by removing all ram and booting up). Internal speaker is connected. I've tried re-seating the video card, re-seating the ram and cleaning out the dust inside.

Last but not least, since there's no beep... I'm starting to think its a power supply issue. Could a faulty power supply fail to supply enough power to the motherboard, causing the video card to not work and the internal speaker either?

Gah, sorry for the length. I just wanted to be as thorough as possible.

  • Is this considered an attention seeking personality disorder?

I'm a little worried I might be suffering from a form of personality disorder. A little detail: I find that I get very uneasy when I send a text message to a friend, comment on their webpage (facebook/myspace) or send them an e-mail and they don't respond. I can't quite pinpoint the feeling, but its more than the usual 'Oh, why didn't that person respond?', but I'm thinking more of 'What did I do to deserve this?, Does he/she hate me?, 'Am I talking to this person too much?', and/or 'Why are they ignoring me?'.

Eh, please respond with serious answers. I'm normally a nice guy, so I don't see why people would ignore me. Maybe I have a personality disorder that seeks attention and is expressed by being too talketive/messaging too much to the point of being ignored?

If there is such a related disorder, anyone have any ideas what it could be?

  • Official Modern Warfare 2 site hacked?

Not too long ago I tried to load up http://modernwarfare2.infinityward.com/, which brought me to http://modernwarfare2.infinityward.com/#/en_US/VID... and instead of the original CTF game footage video loading, I get a scrolling list of gibberish that says something like 'Scanning Packet - Checksum (random string of letters/numbers) that keeps scrolling down. And the time matches my current time, which is disturbing.

I may be overreacting and it's just a fancy loading screen for the video, but I'm doubtful. No links on that site work. Should I be worried that somehow a hacker modified that site to intercept packets sent by my computer?

  • Can anyone recommend me a high end laptop with a biometric fingerprint scanner?

I've been shopping around lately for a laptop that I can take with me to work. The thing is, I've heard many manufacturers are starting to incorporate biometrics into their systems. Since it's still (at least to me) some pretty new tech, can anyone recommend me a sturdy, high end laptop or netbook that has one?

Oh, and just some features I would like included, if possible.

    - All-in-one optical drive with burner.

    - Mic/Webcam

    Thanks in advance. =]

  • Alcohol Related Neuropathy?

I've had symptoms strikingly similar to peripheral neuropathy that I believe was caused by excessive binge drinking. I've done some research online, and I realize the best way to stop the progression of this condition is to stop drinking.

I have a question though, (and please, like I said above, I am quite aware that immediate and permanent discontinuation of alcohol consumption is the best remedy, I just want outside opinions), would drinking even small amounts very, very rarely, worsen this condition? Is it possible that nerves that are already damaged would worsen even with say, a glass of beer a month? I'm just wondering if this condition will pretty much prevent me from drinking ever again, for my entire life.

Any and all comments are welcome, thanks!

  • 1992 Ford Thunderbird Recall?

I have an old 1992 Ford Thunderbird and recently, I've been having headlight problems. They would turn on, but then intermittently go off and back on again, sometimes flickering. I did some research and found out it was a common problem and a recall was issued on the dashboard light switch.

The problem is, I bought the car used, and I have reason to believe (obviously, due to the occurring problems) that he didn't get it repaired. Since I'm not the direct purchaser of this used car, and it's been several years since the recall was issued... can I still bring it in and get it repaired? Or is it not possible because I bought it used/recall expired?

The recall number is 99V275000. Thanks!

  • What is the proper Spanish translation for the saying 'There is no easy way from the Earth to the stars'?

I would use an English to Spanish computerized translator, but I'm sure it'll mess up the wording or grammar. Any help is appreciated.

  • Correct use of Spanish word 'bebe'?

I'm in the process of learning Spanish right now and in my lesson plan, I've come across the word 'bebe'. For example, some sample sentences I had to study were 'El nino bebe', 'La nina bebe', all with diagrams depicting the children drinking. But recently, talking to a friend of mine from the Dominican Republic, I was told that 'bebe' means baby, not to drink.

I'm confused, as I have conflicting definitions from two reliable sources. (Spanish class, and a natural Spanish speaker from the Dominican Republic) Does it have dual meaning depending on how it's used?
