  • I would like to celebrate Nowruz (Persian New Year) this year, any suggestions?

This is my daughter's first spring, and I'd like to surprise my Persian husband with a Nowruz (one of a hundred spellings) Celebration. I'd like it to become part of our family tradition. Any neat ideas of how you have done it with your family? Difficulties we might encounter: I'm a working mom and this is during the week, and we live in the middle of a state with NO easily accessible Persian groceries or other stores. Close substitutions are fine -- it's the thought that counts! :) Thanks in advance!

  • Removing Paint from Front Porch Columns--the major stripping is done, we've used the paint thinner...?

...and now there is crusty paint residue left behind. What is the best way to remove this? I have steel wool and a wire brush, but at this phase, would a scrub brush do me more good? We're trying to prep this for repainting, and it's been EXHAUSTING to get the original paint job off. Thanks so much!

  • How many weeks along the 40 week spectrum?

I went to the dr. on Friday for my first visit. Based on my last period, I thought I was approximately 8 weeks along. I had discovered the pregnancy 25 days earlier than my visit--just after the four week mark. The ultrasound showed a 6 week old ?embryo?

I don't understand how this is possible, since the pregnancy test picked it up on May 4th. Is the ultrasound date from CONCEPTION, leaving out those previous two weeks since my last period? If so, it makes sense. I was so floored, I didn't function well asking questions to my doctor. I go back next week for another ultrasound to confirm and I WILL ask then, but this is driving me crazy.

Luckily, the dr. says things look great. This is my first pregnancy and it's blowing my mind to put it lightly! :) Thanks!

  • When does the excitement of pregnancy overcome the nervousness about miscarriage?

I found out I was pregnant last Monday--wow, feels weird even saying that. The first few days I was a ball of worry over losing the baby--miscarriage has happened recently to several friends. Now my hubby and I have told both sets of parents and are in a waiting game for the first dr's visit at 8 weeks. Does anyone else remember feeling like this? It's amazing, and wanted, but for lack of any better words, this is crazy weird! :) BTW, we've been married for a few years, are financially and emotionally stable, but wow, a positive test can make you feel ridiculously nervous and excited at the same time!

  • How long do Pay-Per-View UFC fights last?

Just wondering...one is on tonight and I don't want to bug my husband with a phone call while he's watching with buddies. LOL, I'm trying to be a GOOD wife. :)

  • Converting MovieMaker files to DVDs that can be watched in a regular DVD player???

My student created a documentary using Microsoft MovieMaker. For competition, she has to burn it to a DVD and have it play in a regular DVD player.

We're at a loss on what to tell her. Is there a trick to this? A certain type of DVD she needs to purchase? I've searched message boards and all refer me to additional software that has to be purchased. Is there anything in Windows that will help her/us with this? Thanks so much!

  • If a Buddhist was being attacked by an animal, how would he/she respond?

We've been studying Buddhism in my class. I understand that Buddhists have immense respect for life. What would occur if a Buddhist was being attacked by a wild animal? Would he/she fight back? Is it a lesson learned?

    Thanks for your help!

  • What do you think of when you hear the word, "diversity?" What are some diverse groups to you?

I am in a diversity class right now, and YES, I get the general definition. I just was interested in taking an informal poll to see what the average joe-on-the-answer-board thought. :)

  • When given a word limit, does the abstract and reference page count?

    Hi Everyone,

I'm in a graduate class which, as its final project, requires us to submit an article for publication to a professional magazine of our choosing. It's a great assignment, and I'm pretty much finished at this point. My question is, does the word limit include the cover page, abstract and reference pages? If so, I'm going to have to "fine tune" my article a little more to fit in a decent conclusion. I feel like an idiot for not asking my prof sooner, that's why I'm here.

Thanks so much for your help!

  • Can someone give me a good working definition of the terms "validity" and "reliability?" Test Wednesday!

I have a million definitions of all different kinds of validity, and I'm able to READ the book's definition, but it's not "clicking." If someone could put this in layman's terms for a lame person like me, I'd TRULY appreciate it!

  • What is the technical name for a chin dimple?

We've looked everywhere. There's a bet riding on this one. :) And NO, it's not a "butt chin."

  • 1st Christmas as a Married Couple--Which In-Laws to visit?

Has anyone solved this VERY delicate situation in any special way? Our parents live 3 states apart, so visiting both on the day isn't the solution. Also, is there anything anyone has done to make a special connection with their parents/family if they are away from them on this special occasion?

  • I need REAL pep rally game suggestions, please?

I'm a coach of a middle school squad. Unfortunately, I'm in charge of the pep rallies. I want memorable events that get as many students as possible involved--I DON'T want it to be all about the jocks and cheerleaders. I want faculty involved, but don't want to terrorize them. Any suggestions?
