  • How painful is laproscopically performed gastric bypass surgery?

My wife will be undergoing this procedure in a little over a week. Needless to say, she is getting a bit nervous, and is curious how painful the recovery from the surgery typically is, and roughly how long pain and discomfort last and how long recovery has typically been. She has been over this a million times with her physicians and is looking for some actual experience.

  • Old School "fantasy" game?

Looking for the name of a game from the '80s that was a 2-player game that usedillustrated booklets to carry out a battle. Each player would pick abooklet (that came with a commands or action card), this booklet would be a troll or ninja, warrior, wizard etc. The players would exchange booklets but keep their cards.

Then they would pick actions (swing sword, dodge, cast spell) look at the card and through a complicated sounding, but simple to use matrix, determine a page number for each person to flip to, this would then show what kind of damgae was made.

It was called something like "lost worlds"

  • Thinking about relocation to Austin, TX or San Antonio, TX areas, can I please get HONEST opinions?

Please please please, I need honest opinions, no blatant cheerleaders for the area or non-constructive "haters".

My family currently resides in Ohio, and are primarily from the Ohio Michigan area, but my wife and I were both army brats and I was in the service 10 years, so we are used to moving around the country.

My wife wants to move to the Austin, TX area, and one concern I have for our family and specifically my school-age kids, is the stereotype of "Yankee-hating, outsider stomping" Texans.

How true or false is this stereotype? Do transplants, specifically to central Texas, really get a lot of crap from the residents that were born and raised there?

Thank you very much in advance.

  • Kings Island Halloween Haunt?

Question for anyone that has gone, especially with kids. There are many warnings from KI's website and brochures that its Parental Discretion Advised and supposedly scarier than it's ever been. I have a 15 year old daughter (whom i'm not worried about, she's scarier in the mornings than anything Cedar Fair can throw at me) and a 9 year old son, he is a bit nervous about how scary it will be, but really wants to go.

What is your opinion on how "intense" the whole thing is, and if you've seen a bunch of kids this age or not?

    thank you

  • What is your opinion on snooping?

Mostly with the internet. and I mean snooping/spying on your kids.

Lets say you give them access to email, IM and even places like Yahoo answers, but give them the ground rules of whom they should be contacting and what not. AND you tell them that you WILL be checking on them, basically "You can use my computer, but if its on there, I'm gonna see it, and I'm gonna read it?"

This is mostly from a discussion (which got very heated) that I heard on the radio a few weeks ago.

And one of the consensus opinions was, its ok as long as you are disclosing what you are doing.

    What is your opinion?

  • Homeschool question?

Specifically for the state of Ohio, if possible.

Does anyone know if it is possible to pull a student out of the public school system after 3 quarters in 8th grade and complete the 8th grade's final quarter through homeschooling?

I will preface this by saying, I won't go into the details of why I'm considering this because 1,000 characters just isn't enough. I will also say, I am generally NOT a big fan of homeschooling. However, I believe my daughter is in a situation with her 8th grade that the administartion is unwilling and maybe unable to resolve.

So is it too late or is it possible to homeschool for just one quarter of a grade? My goal here would be to pull her out at the end of third quarter and then have her start high school next year as planned, the middle school is just a terrible environment now.(and yes, I do believe the problems are not as bad at the high school level, the issues at the middleschool have became so bad due to the inaction of the administration.

  • World of Warcraft hunter/pet question?

I could be mistaken (i'm really good at being wrong)

but, I could have sworn I have seen players with pets that are considered "elite" they have the dragon arround their portrait and everything.

With this, I tried taming an elite beast, finally succeeded, but as soon as he WAS tamed the "dragon" portrait was gone.

So, is it possible to tame and HAVE an elite pet, and if so, how do you do it?

  • What's next for the over PCing of the World?

The Cincinnati Orchestra has cancelled a musical program featuring the original Dukes of Hazzard, John Schneider and Tom Wopat, and celebrating the show.

They claim the TV show's use of the confederate flag is racist and thus this program would have been racist.

So, does this mean that the orchestra should ban Wagner's "Flight of the Valkries". since its Germanic roots and alleged adoration of Adolph Hitler towards it, would make it anti-semetic?
