9 AnswersRenting & Real Estate4 years agowhen to pay IRA withdrawal taxes, now or next year before April 15?
I have decided to withdraw $10,000 from my Simple IRA account to help my first home purchase. This question is not asking whether this is a good idea or not. I would like to know what you think regarding when is better to pay the taxes on this amount, now or next year when I file my taxes? The tax is about $2500 and I will have no penalty for early withrawal. I tend to think that now is better so I don't have to worry about it next year, unless because I will own a house next year, it can be easier next year? Thanks for your thoughts.
4 AnswersUnited States8 years agofreestanding deck i built at my rental - mine or the owners?
Last summer I built a nice cedar deck at my rental. It slightly touches the house but it is NOT attached to the house. It has its own separate and freestanding supports on pavers that just sit on the gravel. I did remove the lawn under the deck and replaced it with gravel before building the deck structure. The owners want to sell the house so I will need to move soon. The owners gave me the OK for building the deck of course, but they did not want to pay for anything. But I did not think to make them sign an agreement regarding me owning the deck. When I move out, do I have the right to disassemble the deck and take the all the materials with me? Again, the deck is freestanding, not attached structurally to any portions of the house. I live in Seattle. Thanks!

If I say this to someone outside of art or architecture, will they understand it? How common is the phrase? I actually want to say it with a twist on it but if they do 't know the original phrase, it won't make sense.

5 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agodo you like to use your iphone as an ipod? or do you prefer them separate?
i was wondering how people like combining their iphone with their ipod (or phone and player, not necessarily by apple). I have had an ipod classic 80G from which i listen to all my music (about 15G of collected music). Recently I have bought an iphone (3Gs 8G) and see that it has an ipod application. I am wondering if i should exchange it for a larger capacity iphone, transfer all my music and have everything in one (maybe sell my ipod which is still in great shape). The only problem i see is that music needs to be turned off when i'm using the phone. I am curious what people think who have both, or who combine them, how they like it, advantages and disadvantages.
Thanks.
1 AnswerMusic & Music Players1 decade agoMoth killing, while away from home?
I have had some moth in my closet for a while, seldom but once in a while I'd see one. I tried to repel them with lavender, I clean my closet all the time and shake all the unused clothes, wash them regularly but still see one moth every two weeks or so.
I'm going out of town for a week so I thought maybe i can take this opportunity to kill the damn creatures with something that I don't care how toxic it is because I won't be here to smell it. Moth balls? What else do you suggest? And will that mean that the clothes that I leave in my closet will smell of moth balls or toxic substances when I return? Also, I live in an apartment building so I don;t want the neighbors to be affected by a smell.
Thanks for suggestions.

1 AnswerLaw & Ethics1 decade agoDear Mr. X and Mr. Y or Dear Mr. X and Y?
I have to write a thank you letter for a scholarship sponsored by two principals at a firm (I met both of them at a luncheon) and I thought I should write them a common letter and send each one a copy.
How should I start: "Dear Mr. [first and lanst name1] and Mr. [first and last name2]" or "Dear Mr. [first and last name1] and [first and last name2] ?
Or how else?
Thanks!
1 AnswerAbuse and Spam1 decade agoplease help me with my contact lenses!!!?
Today was my second day on contact lenses, daily removable, first time ever wearing contacts, yesterday I had to wear them 4 hours, today 6 hours, tomorrow 8 etc. Putting them on is relatively easy but taking them out I spent one hour yesterday and another hour today. I made myself cry just to make it easier to take them off. I used all the methods my doctor told me and I found on line such as looking up pulling the lens down and then pinching it - I can't pinch it at all. And it slides with so much difficulty, it is like glued to my eye. Needless to say after removing them my eyes are red from torture and crying. I feel like I am thirsty, wish I could drink with my eyes, they feel so dry.
Are there any drops I can purchase from the pharmacy and put in my eyes when removing the contacts that can ease the process? It isn't fun at all, and frustrating and irritating. I want to learn and get used to them but right now I feel helpless, I don't want to even put them on tomorrow if it will take me a painful hour to take them off. In all the videos I watched on line, this looks so easy!!
Then the other question I have , sometimes I feel like I'm about to pinch something and I think it's the lens but it hurts and let go - could I pinch a membrane out of my eye if not careful? This might seem like an ignorant's question but I'm that scared.
Thanks for help!
5 AnswersOptical1 decade agosoy milk vs. regular milk in lasagne cheese sauce?
I'm using a recipe for spinach and ricotta lasagne that asks for a cheese sauce using milk. The cheese sauce is supposed to thicken after simmering with flour, butter and herbs but I used soy milk and didn't thicken only very very little. Do I really need regular milk or can I do it differently with soy milk?

3 AnswersUnited States1 decade agowhy such a difference between results from tuition deduction and those from education credit?
Hello, I am amending the 2008 tax return as I had made a mistake and I am finding that if I claim the tuition deduction ($4,000) my taxable income is reduced but I still have to pay a tax and therefore the return is a portion of what I have paid. Whereas if I claim the education credit ($2,000) my tax is reduced to zero which means everything I have paid is returned. The difference is about $1,300. Is that possible? Much larger return from claiming 2,000 credit than 4,000 deduction? I double checked all my calculations.

3 AnswersUnited States1 decade agoshould i go to work with cold 99.9 degree F?
i have a cold, i already stayed home yesterday to treat myself but i don't feel any better today, except that i can breathe a little better. I've had 99.9 F low-degree fever continuously, doesn't go up nor down, it just makes me feel not well. Should I take off today too? I feel guilty because it's not high fever but I don't feel well either. I sneeze and go through cleanex like crazy. What shall I do? I could deal with the rest of the symptoms but the fever is the most annoying. Thanks.

3 AnswersCivic Participation1 decade agoif i have a master, does my H1b position need to "require" a master?
I have a master, my employer is petitioning for an h1b position for me. Does my job requirement need to include a master degree? I am in the architecture field, when hiring, no employer cares about degrees in my field but about portfolio and experience. Will that create a problem for the H1B application? In the case of a lottery will I be considered in the master quota if i have a master but my positon does not necessarily require a master?
Thanks.

4 AnswersOther - Food & Drink1 decade agocontact lenses - do you ever sleep with them?
I wear glasses, never had contact lenses. I received an offer for Acuvue disposable contact lenses in the mail from the place where I did my glasses three years ago and I am thinking about it.
From the little bit of research I did so far, I understand that you are supposed to take the lenses out at night - what happens if you want to take a nap during the day, say one hour nap, do you have to remove them and then put them back? Or you don't sleep one night, like go party or stay awake working on something for 36 hours, is it OK to keep them on?
What is best and why? Daily disposable, every two weeks disposable, one month disposable?
Thanks!
