I've fished for nearly every species north of the equator, i have a ridiculous passion for flyfishing, sharks, steelhead, carp and tarpon. I travel a lot, i love old cars and motorcycles, and I always try to give the best answers possible, and love sharing knowledge and helping other anglers.

  • Halibut fishing opinions?

Halibut fishing is a mild addiction of mine, and by mild i mean it's November and I'm already planning for halibut fishing in May. I'm fly fishing for steelhead and I'm thinking about halibut. Halibut halibut halibut.

Having a 150lb+ fish tow you a mile in 3ft chop in a pontoon boat is as much of a challenge of tarpon to a fly or tuna to a fly. And you can HARPOOOON them.

How do you prefer to fish halibut? I've always had a preference for static baits, motionless for hours until tick, tick, VROOOM battle royale. But most prefer drifting, covering a lot of ground while jigging a bait or leadhead. Yes the drift avoids crabs chewing up baits, and flounder (sometimes), but it doesn't feel as classic to me, no dramatic tension. And static baits allow for a chance at skate, big skate. I've caught halibut in dozens of ways, but i'm pretty set in my ways now, and it has always worked for me.

What's your method? And don't bother me with ideas of trolling for halibut, i'm tired of hearing about it and how well it works for some, you're missing the point of bottomfishing.

  • Carp fishing questions?

A lot of contributors might have guessed by now that i fish quite a bit, predominantly i am a fly fisherman but i work a lot with bait too. I've used every bait under the sun to catch carp in numerous states and countless lakes. But in my hometown is a lake that about 6 years ago someone transplanted carp into, since i discovered the fish by finding corpses and using my underwater camera, i cannot freaking catch them, the carp are either terribly smart or horrendously stupid. no one else fishes for them in the lake and I've tried dozens of methods and baits with no success. It's a western Washington lake and has fairly dark water, the lake contains two species of planted trout, large mouth, catfish, perch, and a few bluegill. On my camera i only see carp in the 6-8 pound range and they stay suspended in the water column most of the year, never heading to the shallows or spawn like normal carp. Any recommendations or ideas?

  • Is it possible to make an in-line 12 cylinder engine?

Is it technically possible to take two 1948 in-line 6 jaguar engines and machine them together into an in-line 12? it's not very probable, but possible?
