Is there such a thing as objective reality?
Is there such a thing as objective reality or is all we understand purely subjective reality?
How can we be certain that what we consider to be objective reality is not purely our subjective opinion? Does majority rule turn subjective reality into objective reality?
6 AnswersPhilosophy1 decade agoDoes the Sharia (Islamic Law) pose a threat to human rights?
Islamic law regulates all aspects of life both public and private and defines a strict norm which all are required to follow. This code was established before the 19th century and accepts slavery, the subordinate position of women and the restriction of other beliefs as being socially required. It also condemns homosexuality and any form of real freedom of speech. Since these laws are immutable they fix society in a pre 19th century mode. Is this a restriction on human rights or a definition of what rights a human should have and how they should be applied universally?

If we accept that God created man is it possible to understand why?
Since God is all knowing it cannot have been some sort of research project.
God cannot be wrong so it cannot have been a mistake.
It cannot have been just so we can worship him because that would imply an ego which could be satisfied with the worship from his own creation. Certainly a flawed ego to want that.
20 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhy should there be sexual fidelity in marriage?
Apart from religeous reasons, why should marriage mean that you should not have sex with other people that you find sexually attractive? I am a firm believer that faithful monogamy is the right form of a relationship but I am looking for purely logical arguments to support my position.
13 AnswersMarriage & Divorce1 decade agoCreation versus Evolution. Where is the conflict?
God created a Universe in which he placed creatures capable of reproducing themselves. The mechanism he designed allowed for characteristics to be passed on by both parents and for these various combinations to produce small changes from generation to generation. Successful changes are propogated whereas unsucessful changes die out. Where is the conflict?
We know that some gifted people are born sterile so these gifts cannot be passed on and we know that we are not identical copies of our parents so that some changes must have occurred in the process of being conceived. Unless the belief is that God hand makes each individual there does not appear to me to be any logical conflict in the theories of creation or evolution.
25 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoHow much freedom should their be in a marriage?
I am by nature monogamous, introverted and a home person whereas my wife is more outgoing and likes to be meeting people and forming new friendships. How much freedom is considered normal.
15 AnswersMarriage & Divorce1 decade agoWhy do societies place so much value on vaginity?
Many questions and answers praise the value of vaginity as if the lack of any sexual experience made a woman a more valuable commodity. The same attitude is not displayed with regard to men. I don't believe that sex should be treated lightly but the concept of virgins having a greater worth seems to debase women as human beings.
