Are Toyota employees eligible for discounted Subaru vehicles?
Toyota owns approximately 15% of Subaru's parent company. Do Toyota employees get similar discounts on Subaru vehicles like they do on Toyota vehicles?
2 AnswersToyota9 years agoWill a short-term family loan count against me in mortgage underwriting?
I've accepted a new job in another state with a substantial signing bonus. It won't be paid until my first or second paycheck, but I'd like to close on a house purchase ASAP so that my family has a place to live. Will a shortterm family loan (fully documented) be sufficient for a down payment if the mortgage underwriter also has documentation of my upcoming signing bonus?

1 AnswerHigher Education (University +)1 decade agoIs nickel-alloyed gold (white gold) ferromagnetic?
I've been googling for a while now, and I cannot find any authoratative sources which state whether or not a nickel-alloyed gold can be attracted by a magnet. It's common chemistry that pure Nickel is ferromagnetic, and that nickel has been alloyed with gold to creat white gold. But are these alloys ferromagnetic?
When you attempt to sell a ring to a jeweler, s/he often uses a magnet first... isn't this test useless on white gold?
1 AnswerChemistry1 decade agoWhy won't my Subaru windows work when in "accessory" mode?
When the key is in the ignition but turned to "Accessories," the radio works fine by the power windows don't function. They only operate if the engine is running. Is this a stupid Subaru idea, or is there a setting I can change? Every other car I've owned allows you to operate the power windows if the key is in the accessory position...

2 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks1 decade agoIs it better to layover in Sea-Tac or LAX in December?
I have the option of connecting to my final destination in either Seattle-Tacoma or LA. Given that the prices and travel times are virtually identical, which would be the better airport to layover? This will be a December flight, so would weather be an issue at SeaTac?
4 AnswersAir Travel1 decade agoDo the Midwestern Disaster Tax Relief benefits still apply in 2009?
After declaring many areas of the midwest Federal Disaster Areas in summer of 2008, Congress modified tax law to provide relief for those living, working, and attending school in affected areas. Concerning education credits, IRS publication 4492-B states the following:
"The education credits have been expanded for students attending an eligible educational institution located in a Midwestern disaster area (Midwestern disaster area students) for any tax year beginning in 2008 or 2009." (p. 9)
I took expanded credits in 2008, but this document seems to imply that the benefits are applicable in 2009 as well. Is this true?
2 AnswersUnited States1 decade agoHow can one copy an MS Excel chart so that it plots new data?
In MS Excel, I've got two similar worksheets with different datasets; one has a plot, and into the other I'd like to inset a plot. Is it possible to copy/paste the plot into the new worksheet in such a manner that it will plot the new data in the worksheet into which it's been pasted?
In the scarce references I've found doing web searches, it's only been suggested that one copies the entire worksheet containing the plot and then paste the new data into the copied worksheet. Although this does indeed accomplish the task, it is a "back-door" method. I just find it hard to believe that those Microsoft programmers could be so asinine as to neglect such a feature in Office 2007.
2 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoImport IGES into Solidworks?
So I'm just trying to import a small IGES file into Solidworks 2008. I'll go through the "OPEN" dialog box, and then a new options box appears allowing me to import my curves (7) as either sketches or 3D curves.
Whichever I chose, when I complete the import, nothing appears imported. Only a plane appears in the Feature Manager (aside from the 3 origin planes).
How can I view my curves?

2 AnswersRenting & Real Estate1 decade agoWhat denim brands have better belt loops?
Have any of you noticed that many denim brands (particularly Old Navy and Gap) have removed two of their belt loops from the back of their jeans? There used to be a belt loop in the center back, two on each hip, and one between each of these on either side, above each cheek, if you will. On many brands, these loops are now gone, I'm guessing as an easy cost-cutting measure that few consumers notice.
Although I'm a relatively thin guy (34" waist), this lack of loops drives me crazy. My jeans always get messed up in the back without those loops, and I can never "dress up denim" by tucking in a shirt, as the waistline is all goofed up in back.
Any brand recommendations that haven't ditched these necessary loops in the back?

1 AnswerHigher Education (University +)1 decade agoWhat is the universial remote code for Venturer digital TV converter box?
I recently purchased a Venturer digital TV converter box from Target. The unit comes with a remote, which is tiny and inconvenient to operate. My Samsung DVD player comes with an IR diode for controlling other devices such as this. However, the manufacturer code table in the back of the DVD manual does not list a code for Venturer devices. Any ideas? While some websites list a three-digit code, the DVD player only accepts four digits.

3 AnswersChicago1 decade agoWhere's the best place to put short-term investments?
I'm a young and nomadic professional who is looking to buy a house in ~3 years. I'm not swimming in wealth, but I'm contributing to my Roth IRA and wife contributes to her 403(b). We've been making modest (but not inadequate) payments on student loan debt but are also managing to put money away in savings.
Where's the best place to put this money so that we can use it for our down payment when that housing purchase comes? Should we keep it in our high yield savings accout (variable rate, currently 3% APR), stow it in my Roth IRA (where we can take out $10,000 for a 1st-time home purchase), get rid of the student debt, or something else?
I'm hoping better planning now will put us in a better place in the future.
7 AnswersPersonal Finance1 decade agoHow can I access the fan and heat sink to my Gateway Notebook computer?
My wife owns a Gateway 400VTX Notebook computer. The fan has recently stopped working and the BIOS displays a "fan error" at startup. Being only familiar with desktop system hardware, I am unsure of how to correctly disassemble the proper components to gain access to it. Do I go at it from the top (through the keyboard) or the bottom? A site would be helpful, but if you're experienced, I'll take your word for it. Thanks!
