  • Where in the bible does it talk about satan?

More specifically, where does it say that he is evil? All the things he has done. I've only read one passage that somewhat talks about it, and it says that Satan was made perfect until jealousy(?) was found in him. I don't remember what exactly was found, but that doesn't explain why satan was evil. I don't see any evidence in the bible regarding Satan as this evil mastermind, other than being referenced a few times. Am I missing the scripture somewhere?

  • Would any of you religious people have ever thought there was a god if...?

... you were never given a book explaining his existence? The thought of a god seems so awkward in today's society, that without the bible being forced onto people from birth, there would be no god today. I believe that the bible is the only thing that makes a god seem real. Evolution would be accepted as fact by creationists if it didn't go against the bible, so my question is, what belief would people have if all they had was scientific fact? Would there still be a type of god? Would people still make up stories to fill that godbox? Or is the idea of god only relevant because the book of him is still being read?

  • Do Atheists believe in "The New World Order"?

My dad, his brainwashed son *my brother* along with his wife, and my dad's fiance all listen to Alex Jones. I'm sure most of you know who he is but if you don't I suggest not looking him up; You're better off, trust me. Anyway, they talk about all the regular conspiracy stuff: NWO, FEMA death camps, the Neo-Nazi regime of the muslim president... stuff like that. Now some of the stuff seems believable, and I wouldn't be surprised if the government was planning a giant killtacular. However, that's beside the point. My question is, why is it always christians who believe this stuff, or if it isn't, why don't I hear about atheists, or muslims, or anything other than christians supporting this guy? Do the same connections not meet together if you aren't christian?

It really boggles my mind. I can see that the twin towers were detonated, but I don't blame the government. I blame the guy who owns them. And I don't want to get into argument about belief simply because it's a different topic for a different time. I don't connect that incident with the New World Order, and I don't see a reason why I should. I guess maybe I answered my own question, because I am atheist and I somewhat believe in the stuff he says, but I think partially it's just from the brainwashing he tries to give me whenever I stop over.

So for the recap, is it just christians who believe this stuff? Are there legitimate things to be worried about with it if you aren't a christian? Why does it seem like if you aren't a christian, the NWO and the government don't seem as maniacal? Is the NWO strictly a christian phenominon?

  • Do people weigh more when we are on the rebounding end of our orbit?

I was watching a documentary on the history of scientific discovery and it was talking about newtons discovery of gravity. When our planet orbits the sun we get significantly closer to it. As we sling shot past, do we weigh more? Or is there a different property at work to negate that effect?

  • What is the Holy Ghost?

This concept doesn't make sense to me. I've read books from the bible, but I don't remember reading anything about the Holy Spirit, or at least saying that it is a separate person. What does he look like? The holy trinity is 3 people right? So who is the third guy? He can't just be the manifestation of God's presence on earth cause that's still just God. Can someone please explain to me how this makes sense?

  • A word for a type of christian who...?

reads the bible literally and non literally, with no consensus of when to do either?

I was wondering if there is a word for this. My father says he believes in creation, and I ask him to prove it, and he points to genesis. Fine and dandy. When I ask him other things on morality and such, he says you cannot take the bible literally.

This kind of flip flop argument needs a word, and I'm curious, is there one that already exists? And if not, what is a word you would call someone who does this?

  • Religious satire, how is it?

I wrote this for english class, and was wondering how you guys think of it!

    Advice To The Religious

Here is some advice to those of us who have a great knowledge of the great and mighty sky daddy above. I realize how many hardships you face day to day, and I want you to know, that your faith should never falter due to such turmoil. So please, listen, and listen well.

Don't think about how others are suffering. You are being persecuted too! So what, some Ethiopians are starving? You get made fun of on a daily basis for your beliefs! At least they aren't being made fun of for being fat. Seriously, look at their bellies; They need to start working out or something.

Love everyone! Unless they do bad things. I mean sure, none of us are perfect. But others are way less perfect that you. And for those people, you should treat them differently, because we all know the almighty one loves them less. He still loves them... just not as much as he loves you! You're more important.

Read his word every day, but don't take it literally! The giver of life wants all of us to know what he has to say, but to take his word literally is like saying because something can fly, it has wings. There are so many things that can fly that don't have wings: Hover craft and flying saucers, just to name a few. Don't make assumptions. God doesn't want you to heed his words the way he says them. You as disciples need to decode all of his writings, because even the most obvious things have deep seeded, hidden meanings.

Science is not your friend. All scientists are evil and should not be listened to! Godless heathens! God killed the dinosaurs because they couldn't fit on the ark. It's not because the deluge that appears in almost every culture's religion never happened, or that they evolved from millions of years of evolution to become today's animals; That would be silly to think that's even possible. So anyway, Jesus rose from the dead, but he isn't a zombie! Zombies eat brains, and Jesus is exactly the opposite! He wants YOU to eat HIM. And drink his blood. However this does not mean he embraces vampirism or cannibalism. Those things would be disgusting and ungodly.

You should follow God's commandments to the cross! Literally! You must obey every single one of them! If you break one, you will be banished to the nether realm and burn in an eternity of fire and brimstone. I cannot stress enough how important this is! If your hand makes you steal, cut it off! If your tongue make you curse God, cut it off! If your penis naturally has extra skin that God thinks is gross, even though he himself made it, cut it off! Basically, if you have anything bad on you that causes sin, the best solution is to just cut it off. This large of a laceration will not grow back, so you don't need to worry about sinning that way ever again! However, if you do end up sinning, it's okay, just repent of it and try really hard this time not to break any rules. As long as you're really sorry, it's all good.

Always remember, it is God's will! If something bad happens to you, praise be to God! Because if you don't praise him, he'll get really mad, and we all know what happens when God gets mad at you... *ahem* GOMORRAH *ahem* And if something good happens, what could there be to complain about? Just be happy you're living better than most homeless people. As long as you can remember that fact, God will continue to seem... I mean BE... Good! Amen, Brothers and Sisters!

  • Are we going to be sending soldiers to Japan as a relief effort?

I was wondering, simply because when there is usually a disaster somewhere, regardless of situation, soldiers and volunteers ship off and help out those in need. I can only assume we will, but in all honesty, I have no knowledge of US policy and how we would respond in this situation.

I believe Japan is an ally. Would we help them? And if we had a disaster, would they/have they helped us?

  • How do we know right or wrong?

In the bible it says that Adam and Eve ate from the tree of good and evil. It is common understanding that this gave them the knowledge from right and wrong.

So how then, before they ate the apple, would they know that eating the apple is sinful? That disobeying God is sinful and wicked? Presumably it would be evil, by the definition that anything not for God, is against him, and being against God is antichristal, and being an antichrist is evil.

How does someone go about understanding what is right or wrong if they had yet to learn what the difference even is?

  • Why are all the questions about religion (christianity) usually the same?

It isn't even a debate anymore on certain facts, yet people seem to have questions about things that have already been covered, countless times.

Lately all I see is repeats of questions, over and over. Reused points in argument, which aren't even good, or relevant in the least, are scattered over any and most religious debate. Why is it that Christians and the like seem to overlook these? Why is it that I can find answers to questions but they cannot?

Also why does it seem that religious folk are incapable of an original thought? Most of their questions or arguments are not even their own, but copies of an argument they saw somewhere else. I can't say that I haven't also reused material from time to time, but why is it that it is seemingly ALWAYS that religious debate is stale and recycled?

  • Help me understand the Big Bang Theory, please?

Can somebody link me to some videos, or even just tell me about the theory of the big bang?

I don't care whether it is real or fake, I don't need opinions. I just want to be able to understand it and be able to discuss it when it comes up in conversation.

I know a little about it, however not enough to say I even begin to comprehend it. All I know it that matter came from somewhere, but I don't know where. It was compact and then rapidly expanded, creating the universe. Or something similar. I suppose this could be completely wrong, I honestly have no idea.

But two main questions I care about:

What is the theory of how life came into being? (and if you know of any studies of where it could be proven plausible, please note that in. I was watching something where they were talking about electricity being sent through chemicals(?) and they created amino acids, or enzymes or something)

What is the theory of how the big bang was caused, (again plausibility statements if any) and what events transpired to get to the point of life being created?

I believe in evolution, and it's completely evident to me that it is true. People who don't believe it, just haven't seen the truth, however, due to my lack of knowledge, I cannot determine whether or not the big bang is logical or not. And I cannot back up claims of evolution without a standard knowledge of where life originated. I realize also, however, that not having knowledge of something, does not make it untrue.

So aside from my ramblings, if anyone can answer any, or all of these questions, or link a video, please do! I don't have anyone I know with proper knowledge to help me with this. Please, outside world, help me!

  • What is the video explaining the atoms and then zooming out into space?

I saw a video as a kid, where it takes a still photo of a guy on a blanket in the park, then it zooms in to explain his anatomy and things, and then zooms out to the universe.

What video is this, and can someone link me to it?

  • Quick question for Christians, conflicting beliefs?

I was watching a video on youtube by a user who goes by VenomFangX, some of you might know of him, but his identity isn't extremely important, more so I am just referencing my source of intel. However on that note, everything quoted by him is either scripture, or accepted by mainstream christianity.

So getting on with my question.

Christians say that to be saved, all you have to do is believe that Jesus is your lord and savior, and repent of your sins.

My attention was brought upon a small note written at the bottom of this user's video as this was mentioned... "We are saved by faith and trust in Christ, not our ability to repent from sin[.] Repentance from sin will be the result of salvation, not the other way around[.]"

Now, according to scripture, this is completely right! No argument so far. However, when you look at both of these things together at once, you come to conclude that "something" has gone wrong...

I'm speaking in the pretense that Christians are all the same. I realize that there are exceptions to this statement, HOWEVER, for the sake of my point, this doesn't matter. And in reality, it really doesn't, because the majority is the test group, and thus are the only subjects to be examined in this situation.

So with that out of the way, it is safe to say that your acts will NOT get you into heaven, rather, you will gain righteous acts when you become saved; this being what the bible teaches. We've already established (through the quotation given above) that repentance, in using it to gain salvation, is an act of "iniquity", to quote scripture, and that you must be saved prior to repenting, or else be turned away by God, because repentance is something that comes with the spirit of Jesus, and not vice versa...

So is every priest, minister, pastor, evangelist, etc., willfully damning every person they give the instructions to, "Pray to Jesus and ask for forgiveness"? This would be, by the given definition, an act to gain salvation, and it is equivalent to casting out demons in God's name, and so on and so forth. And if you want to argue semantics, you could debate whether or not the act of cognitively believing in Jesus, is an act, but that is not my point.

But my question is really just raising awareness to ask another, more important question, which some of you probably already know.

How can a book, so easily misinterpreted, and so easily mistranslated/misprinted, *and on a more controversial note*, that can have parts, entire books, (which could have debatable been written by God himself) be added and thrown out, at the whim of leading government and church officials?

*These things are factually noted: words having multiple meanings, misprinted or completely different verses, documented literature being removed from the bible because some man (it doesn't really matter who, but in all honesty I haven't researched the particular source) decided that it does not belong there.*

How can a book, with all its fallibility, be taken on such high standings as to change a society and culture? If you haven't witnessed God yourself, how can you even attempt to believe in something so ludicrous, and if you HAVE "witnessed" God, should you be questioning and comparing your sanity against someone of another faith or even a godless mindset?

What are your thoughts on this?

Thank you to everyone who responds. And feel free to post positive, as well as negative comments, because free speech is the one thing that I can agree with, even if the words spoken I oppose. However, with that being said, please at least try to keep the comments respectable.

Thank you again, and I am eager to hear some responses!

  • Bible reference help (non-denominational)?

I've been studying the bible recently, and I remember hearing about a passage that says all people are 'pre chosen' by god to be saved, or something of the sort. My first question is, does this passage exist? And if so, where is it?

Also I have another question. And I am not trying to attack religion at all, but I want to better understand the beliefs shared by christians and non christians alike.

In the bible it says that when Adam and Eve ate the fruit in the garden, they gained the "Knowledge of Good and Evil". Why is it when I ask christians where disease, pestilence, and physical/mental handicaps originated, they blame it on Adam and Eve eating the fruit? It says nothing of God inventing MORE evil, just that it is now known. And I would think that refers to more the free will to sin, and not the horrible things that happen. So would it be correct to infer that these things were always there?

What is your opinion on the matter?

Thank you for all who participate!

  • The bible and history?

I was reading an article that said the bible was geographically accurate, and, the author of the article was using this evidence as proof of the existence of God.

Well I know of another book that is geographically accurate... Any social studies textbook. Where do you think people who wrote modern textbooks got their information? I'm sure the same place the people in the bible could have gotten theirs.

Also another point that was made is that it had a "near perfect" moral code, or moral teachings. However, morality changes based on location throughout the world. Certain places allow certain things. Also, biblical morality has been changed and certain things that were ok in the old testament, are now blasphemous and evil things in the new testament, and today's culture. Sacrifices and Incest being the main two that I have seen.

The argument that incest had to have been necessary to populate the earth is ok, except for the fact that we're all technically related, if we are all descendants of the same people. So how do we have all the variations in color and shape throughout the world?

Now, sacrifice on the other hand... Why exactly did that please God in the first place? What kind of sick person creates animals, and then has them killed and burnt to be pleased by it's "Aroma". And it says directly in Genesis that all he did was smell them, so don't try to say there was some other purpose. Random death and good smell. Such a barbaric ritual. Reminds me more of paganism than anything.

Anyway, just thought I'd get some feedback on this, since to me, these points are pretty important. So lets discuss this. Thank you.

  • How can I find out what my calling in life is?

I have a lot of interests in things, and I'm extremely interested in mythology and religion, as well as science, however I don't really know much about any of these subjects. I also play the bass guitar, and I can sing pretty well, and I can write well, and I'm fairly intelligent, at least for my age... but I have no idea what I want to do with my life.

I'm 17 and almost done with school, but I have no career choices sought out, or prepared for. I don't really have any skills in one particular subject to make a career out of it, but my problem isn't finding the skills for what I would like to be; It is about not knowing what I really, truly want to do.

I would really like to be a religious scholar but I don't know how to get started on that, or how that would work as a job, unless I somehow got hired at a college or a museum or something. Also I have troubles reading. On the one hand, I can read quickly, but I have troubles retaining the information. On the other, I can take my time and really get things embedded, but then I start to go off into mental tangents about the things I'm reading, but I continue down the page, and I'll come back to reality and I'll have no idea of what I just read. And that happens any time I read.

Also I would like to be a musician but I don't have money for lessons, and I'm not one of those kids who has uber raw talent to play instruments. Does anyone know what I can do to find my calling? Or some way to be able to do what I enjoy the most? Because I really don't know where to go from here... please help me!

  • I find it hard to believe that Christians haven't thought about this thoroughly...?

If Adam and Eve were in the garden of Eden and they physically saw God, and were cast out, where did their knowledge of God go? Why is there such debate whether or not God exists if there was physical evidence that he existed? I mean we all came from Adam and Eve, yet some people drifted away, and then what? We all just forgot? I mean KNOWING there is a hell, Adam and Eve you'd think would be sh*itting in their leaves trying to please God. You'd think we wouldn't have this problem today, of people denying God. Make you wonder just how credible it is. And yeah this ia rhetorical, but comments? I mean really... this is just a small aspect of the bible, and in the very beginning no less! Just think what other wonders we would find if we read further...

  • How should I go about working out?

I'm trying to burn fat, and strictly fat! Everyone lately is always worried about losing weight, but i just want to be healthy.

ANYWAY. The problem I have is that I'm not exactly sure how to work out. I mean, I can do push ups, sit ups, and I have a full weight machine. But whenever I use it, I just get tired. It doesn't feel like im working out, and I'm not trying to just become a muscle head.

So what kind of workout should I do? Something that doesn't need a lot of room for preferably. I can do jumping jacks, and push ups. That's about my spacial limitations. Also I do have the weight machine, two 20lb dumbbells, and an elliptical, but I hate that thing... So I was wondering, if someone who knows about this stuff could help me come up with a routine that is fairly simple, that I can do daily, and that doesn't have me begging for death by the end of the work week lol.

Also, how do you find out what weight you should be lifting? Because I am a pretty strong guy and I can pull down the 10 block. I don't know how much weight that is but its a lot. The 12 block I can hang on and I weight 205-214 on average. Im guessing it's 15lbs per block because that would make sense. But I think I've rambled enough. Thank you in advance everyone who took the time to help me out! Much appreciated =]
