...then again...
Why are so many calendar companies convinced the world will end on December 31st of this year?
Rarely do they extend their time beyond 2011 and if they do it's a tiny little calendar of January as if they're saying " If the world doesn't end this will be the setup for January 2012." How suspicious...

1 AnswerOther - Music1 decade agoWhat, about symbols, do you feel is more accurate?
A. Most symbols are universal.
B. Most symbols are subjective.
I'd put this in polls but I'm more interested to see what people who frequent this category think about the question.

The 'Me Foundation' didn't work, even Audubon thinks I'm a jerk.

7 AnswersMythology & Folklore1 decade agoWhy the recent interest in mermaids?
Is there a mermaid movie out or coming out that I don't know about? Strange. Wouldn't a real mermaid be something like a salmon with some female anatomy, just seems that the reality would be nowhere near as cute (or hot) as the hollywood representations. Stringy hair, bloated skin, barnacles... etc...
2 AnswersMythology & Folklore1 decade agoWhy can't aliens get the information they're looking for?
If they are an advanced species why do they need to probe humans year after year day after day to find out their information? When do they finally say 'OK we have the stats we need now let's present ourselves and throw a big BBQ.' Stupid underachieving aliens.

6 AnswersMythology & Folklore1 decade agoDo people understand that when skeptics 'dis' ouija boards...?
... they are trying to calm people who have unreasonable fears about them? We don't want to stop good natured fun but as we are non believers and there are people who are freaked out by them we want to help calm people down. Does this make us evil? I don't think so.

2 AnswersMythology & Folklore1 decade agoQuestion about the phrase 'open mind'?
When asking someone to have an open mind aren't most people saying that others are closed minded unless they just flat out believe? As an example if I am open to the idea that there is a slim possibility that yetis exist but would like to see evidence. Does that mean I'm closed minded? Do I need to go search for yetis for the rest of my life to be open minded to yetis? Most people who believe in the supernatural start from the position that it probably exists and they want to pursue it. Am I right? Either that or they have a personal experience that proves to them that the phenomenon exists. When others ask questions and need evidence they are labeled as closed minded. We have to 'open our minds to the possibility'. I feel I already have and that I'm just expected to believe in order to be considered open minded by the believers.

1 AnswerReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhat if 'crazy' is a sliding scale?
What if there's no grand ledge to fall over and no one is truly sane but 90% of us are not crazy enough to need medication? It would explain a lot of things. If we could just admit that everyone has brain troubles just as everyone has physical troubles we could let go of the assumption that our senses are infallible. Just a thought...
4 AnswersMathematics1 decade agoBelievers: how do you feel about skeptics that debunk actual frauds?
If you don't believe there are some(!) frauds then I feel sorry for you. But if a skeptic uncovers the truth behind a con man, is this a good thing or should non believers stay out of it?
9 AnswersParanormal Phenomena1 decade agoIs an easy thumbs up/ thumbs down system bad for critical thinking?
Having a system that gives immediate results doesn't exactly encourage people to look into the question at hand. Personally one of the funniest aspects of this site, for me, is the answers that people will give a thumbs down to. It's like they're hovering over it. I've given a sarcastic title with a full explanation below and people have given me a thumbs down just for the title, not even bothering to read further. Hilarious, and a little scary at the same time. I hope philosophy people are OK with this question in the category. It sort of fits and I couldn't think where else to put it.
