  • Where in the Bible can I find these three verses or passages?

I am writing a prayer to be said at the burial of the cremated remains of my father this coming Sunday (Father’s Day) and I need verses and/or passages from the Bible that relate to the following three things: “Ashes to ashes, dust to dust,” going immediately to be with the Father upon the death of our earthly bodies, and being reunited with our deceased family in heaven.

I have tried keyword searches to no avail.

I’m not really looking for doctrinal debate, just information.

  • Why is it that as all of the great nations and empires of the past died out so did their gods...?

...except for Israel? When Israel was completely destroyed her people were scattered throughout most of the known world, yet Jehovah, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob lived on and His Church still continues to grow even to this day.

  • Atheists & Agnostics: How do you explain this?

According to a Pew Research Center Survey (June28-July 9, 2012) 9% of the the participants who identified themselves as either atheist or agnostic are "absolutely certain" of the existence of God or a universal spirit. Another 29% believe but are not absolutely certain (page 12 of the pdf at the link given below).

Does this mean that 38% of self-proclaimed atheists/agnostics don't even know what the word means? Why do they then tell anyone who claims that atheism or agnosticism is a religion to look the word up in a dictionary? Apparently they themselves have not. Are they just "wannabes" (although I can't imagine anyone wanting to be if all your claims of persecution, discrimination, etc. are true)?

  • Why are some questions automatically put to a vote so quickly and without notice?

A question I asked less than for hours ago has been put to a vote already with no action on my part.

This has happened from time to time before. Some questions remain open for days and some for only a few hours. What gives? Who makes these decisions and why? What guidelines do they follow? Todays question did not break any guidelines whatsoever.

  • Does Obamacare require those religiously opposed to modern medicine to buy health insurance?

    If so, why???

It's not like they're ever going to use it.

Will the next liberal, nannystate, step be to require every citizen to receive routine checkups (You'll be "taxed" if you don't)?

Followed by the final step of forced treatment of any and all abnormalities (no matter how minor) found as a result of the above mentioned forced routine checkup (again, you'll be taxed if you don't cooperate).

  • Does Yahoo need a remedial math course?

I'm not complaining, just curious. For the question linked below, the best answer (chosen by voters, 1 vote, 100%) was awarded to Dr. Rockzo (congratulations! I agree with it!). Scrolling down we see that I (Believer) also received 1 vote and 100%!

Again, I'm not complaining. It's just one question. I don't take it personally and, to be honest my answer was not all that good. Makes me wonder, though, how often this sort of thing (miscounting) occurs.

  • Jews and fellow Christians: Why do you love God?

    This isn't a trick question.

It isn't intended to be mocking (as in "Why the 'heck' would you love God").

    I have no hidden agenda.

I just honestly want to know your reasons.

I, too, love Him with all my heart and soul; with all of my understanding and strength, but I will withhold my reasons for doing so because a) some of them are deeply personal; just between He and I, and b) I don't want to influence anyone's answer who may be just looking for the ten worthless points of "best answer".

If you don't feel like answering then don't. After all, I'm not saying why I do either.

If you don't love God, don't bother either. You have nothing to say of interest to me (at the moment).

  • Would (or should) this be allowed in public schools today?

If a student wrote a report, that he knew was to be read aloud in class, titled "Proclamations of US Presidents" would he be allowed to include Washington's 1789 Thanksgiving Day Proclamation?

WHEREAS it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me "to recommend to the people of the United States a DAY OF PUBLIC THANSGIVING and PRAYER, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and single favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:"

NOW THEREFORE, I do recommend and assign THURSDAY, the TWENTY-SIXTH DAY of NOVEMBER next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed;-- for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enabled to establish Constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted;-- for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge;-- and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.

And also, that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions;-- to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shown kindness unto us); and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best.

GIVEN under my hand, at the city of New-York, the third day of October, in the year of our Lord, one thousand seven hundred and eighty-nine.

  • Anyone heard this before?

God: Francis, you know all about gardens and nature; what in the world is going on down there in the U.S.? What happened to the dandelions, violets, thistles and the stuff I started eons ago? I had a perfect no-maintenance garden plan. Those plants grow in any type soil, withstand drought, and multiply with abandon, honeybees, and flocks of songbirds. I expected to see a vast garden of color by now. All I see are patches of green.

St Francis: It's the tribes that settled there, Lord. They are called Suburbanites. They started calling

your flowers "weeds" and went to great lengths to kill them and replace them with grass.

God: Grass? But it is so boring, it's not colorful. It doesn't attract butterflies, bees, or birds, only

grubs and sod worms. It's temperamental with temperatures. Do these Suburbanites really want grass growing there?

St Francis: Apparently not, Lord. As soon as it has grown a little, they cut it....sometimes two times a week.

God: They cut it? Do they bale it like hay?

St Francis: Not exactly, Lord. Most of them rake it up and put it in bags.

God: They bag it? Why? Is it a cash crop? Do they sell it?

St Francis: No sir, just the opposite. They pay to throw it away.

God: Now let me get this straight....they fertilize to make it grow and when it does grow, the cut it

off and pay to throw it away?

    St Francis: Yes, sir.

God: These Suburbanites must be relieved in the summer when we cut back on the rain and turn up the heat. That surely slows the growth and saves them a lot of work.

St Francis: You aren't going to believe this Lord, but when the grass stops growing so fast, they drag out hoses and pay more money to water it so they can continue to mow it and pay to get rid of it.

God: What nonsense! At least they kept some of the trees. That was a sheer stroke of genius, if I do say so myself. The trees grow leaves in spring to provide beauty and shade in the summer. In the autumn they fall to the ground and form a natural blanket to keep moisture in the soil and protect the trees and bushes. Plus, as they rot, the leaves become compost to enhance the soil. It's natural circle of life.

St Francis: You'd better sit down, Lord. As soon as the leaves fall, the Suburbanites rake them up into great piles and pay to have them hauled away.

God: No way! What do they do to protect the shrubs and tree roots in the winter to keep the soil moist and loose?

St Francis: After throwing the leaves away, they go out and buy something called mulch. They haul it home and spread it around in place of the leaves.

God: And where do they get this mulch?

St Francis: They cut down trees and grind them up to make much.

God: Enough! I don't want to think about this anymore. St Catherine, you're in charge of the arts. What movie have you scheduled for us tonight?

St Catherine: "Dumb and Dumber," Lord. It's a really stupid movie about....

God: Never mind--I think I just heard the whole story from St Francis!

  • Could this be a fuel line problem?

Car which usually starts on the first turn of the key now takes several turns. It then idles very roughly at around 500 rpm before settling into a pattern of rhythmic "reving" between 500 and 1000rpm. When the accelerator is depressed the rpm, of course, increases and levels off, but when it is released it returns to a 500, then 1000, then 500rpm rhythm.

Could this be caused by a partially clogged fuel line and/or filter?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

  • Are most people who believe in evolution merely “armchair” scientists?

I define “armchair” scientist as one who merely relies upon the research and opinions of others to make his or her own conclusions without ever actually performing any of the research or examining any of the evidence in a close-up, hands-on, way.
