  • Serious E-Verify Compliance Question?

I have worked at this very large nation-wide cable service company for over six years and they are doing a company wide I-9/E-Verify. This all sounded suspect to me from the get go and I have refused to comply. My SS card copy and driver's license have been on file with HR since day one. I have been told something to the affect that TWC is being incentivized to force everyone into the e-verify system. I found a document from the DHS website entitled employee rights. On the last page, 2nd bullet point down on the left it says that e-verify can not be used for current employees. I have brought this to the attention of HR and they have given me until about a week from now to comply or possibly face termination. I live in KY, by the way, and now I'm rather freaking out at this point.

Any advice or input you may be able to offer would be so appreciated.

  • Mandatory Overtime Law?

I work for a cable service company and we are constantly overly scheduled, things don't go as planned and jobs can take considerably longer than the time allocated, and we have a certain amount of jobs we have to do that day regardless, so we have to work incredible amounts of overtime that we don't want to work, it is a huge interference into our personal lives, and we feel as if we have no choice. My question is is there a law that protects us from being forced to work overtime? I've heard from a couple people that there is some sort of law that you have to be given 24 hours notice that you will have to work overtime, but we work anywhere between 1-4 or more hours overtime every day, we are scheduled 8-5 but it's really 5 until all jobs are done, jobs such as installing peoples' cable, running service calls, and other maintenance on the system that is non-critical. BTW, we are non-union, and I am in KY.

  • What is a pant? (as in a pair of pants)?

I've asked a lot of people and no one seems to know, but in a "pair of pants" which part is the pant? i know there are pant legs, so it has to be, and cannot be the legs, the it's not the waist because, well, that's the waist, so it has to be between the two, but that's basically all that there is to a pair of pants, it's basically two pant legs attached to the waist, but I may be wrong, that's why I am asking ;)
