  • How (can) I fill small gap in door sill?

The threshold of my back exterior door has a small gap between between 2 pieces. Can I fill it with spray adhesive? The inside of the threshold gets frost and it's starting to wear the wood down. The outside part has 2 small holes at the bottom, I'm not sure if this is for drainage.

Filling in cinder block base for old step?

I'm tearing out an old sidewalk and front step. The front step has a cinder block base. It turns out the base is 7 blocks deep. Would it cause any problems with drainage to remove 2 rows and cap with cement or mortar. Also, there was an unexpected cement slab under the sidewalk that is sloping towards the house. Is it necessary to remove it?

  • Is there a panning attachment for panoramic shots that I can use with my current ball tripod head.?

I decided to give panoramic shots a try. I currently have a Manfrotto 486RC2 ball head that doesn't have an independent panning function. Is there some type of attachment that would go in-between the tripod and head? Swiveling the tripod neck has proven to be shakey. I've found a few panning heads out there but they connet directly to the camera body. And I'm apprehensive about getting a new head and multiple quick release plates.

  • Bissell 82h1 brush roll will not spin, replacement part?

I just replace the brushroll because the old one had a violent heart attack and broke on one side. The replacement part is from eReplacementParts and it matched the old part perfectly. When I installed the new one it would not roll at all when it was in all the way. It seems like 2 braces around the section where the belt goes are rubbing on the roller and keeping it from moving, so is the part where that side inserts into the main housing. When the vacuum is turned on it doesn't spin, we just get a smell from the belt not turning (this was done for no more than 5 seconds, twice). Any ideas what is wrong?

  • Kitchen redo, install tile over wood cabinet, also need low VOC poly stripper. Several questions, please list question responding to.?

I'm redoing my kitchen and need answers for a few details. We removed some brick-textured drywall and will replace it with tile.

    1. What kind of grout/mastic would work best for a kitchen wall?

    2. The old material was put directly onto the original wall. There is a thin layer of plaster over drywall, does the plaster need to be fully removed?

    3. Part of it was on the side of a wood cabinet. What type of bonding material can we use?

    4. The new tiles are thinner than the old stuff, how can we set the electrical outlets back? The need moved by about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch

    5. What type of stripper can we use for the polyurethane on the cabinets that is low VOC. Having a toddler in the house is our main concern.

YEs, we tested for asbestos and all tests came back negative.

  • For selling photo cards at an art show what type of photos should I use and where to get the cards from?

I've done a few art shows in my area and am looking at adding photo cards to my line-up.

    1. Typically, what type of photos do beter for sales? Would my more artistic stuff work better or the ones that display more typical objects/scenes? (Artistic v stock)

What sites have good deals on photo cards that come with envelopes and plastic sleaves?

The link below gives an example of both types of work.

  • Tips for installing cabinets where laminate floor is right now.?

I'm installing a bank of cabinets in the dining room. The countertop is granite, too heavy to place the cabinets on top of the floating floor system. So since I can't cut the laminate too far from the cabinets, what tricks are there to shimming the bases with so little room to work with? The laminate boards are perpendicular to the cabinets so taking those out would take a long time.

  • What is the most amount of slope allowed for patio pavers?

I'm finishing my retaining wall project by adding a set of patio pavers between two sets of stairs. The distance between the steps is about 5 feet but it drops about 7 inches. Is this too steep for pavers to be installed? I have extra step blocks left over that I can add to the lower stairs to bring them more level. The step blocks are 6 inches high, and I can add additional blocks to the wall to help with wall design and aesthetics. I'm at work now, so when I get home I can provide more accurate measurements and possibly photos to assist.

  • How to stop leak from sink drain, strainer/pipe connection?

I recently replaced the whole stainer assembly in my kitchen sink because one locking nut was cracked and the other kept slipping off. I used plumbers putty between the strainer and the basin. There is still a very small leak from the connection between the strainer and the drain pipe. The pipe is PVC, there's a plastic washer between the metal strainer and pipe, and the new locking nut is metal (zinc I think). What else can I do?

  • How much gravel do I need in front of a retaining wall?

I recently installed a large retaining wall in my back yard. The contractor I hired to do the base work left between 2 and 3 feet of gravel on the ground in front of the wall. It doesn't appear to be supporting the structure because the ground has very little slope at that point. Is it necessary to keep the gravel where it is or can I just rake it up and plant grass?

Should we give New Jersey back to Britain? They can use it as a landfill, it would be an improvement to the trash that's there.

  • What to do about a gap around a door handle?

I replaced the door handles in my hallway. Everything went well until the closet door. I put the handle in and found out the hole had been drilled just a bit too far from the door. There is a small crescent-shaped gap between the edge of the handle and the door. What can I do to fill in that gap? Is there some additional plate I can buy?

  • Why don't more cars have full size spare tires?

It would make sense because you could just change the wheel, drive on, fix the bad one at your convenience. This business of having to drive slow on a donut then find a shop is a waste of time on a road trip. Now THAT'S a conspiracy.
