Shared bedroom: brother & sister?
I have a 4 year old boy and a little girl who is 18 months. Our house, a bungalow, has only two bedrooms on the main level, and a third in the basement. Just before my daughter was born, I moved my then 2 year old into the bedroom in the basement. It's a great room and the basement is fully developed, but he's started asking why he can't have a room upstairs with the rest of the family. Since we'll be moving my girl from a crib to a bed in the coming months, we are exploring the possibility of them sharing a room. Is this appropriate? My boy will be starting Kindergarten in September and I don't want him to be made fun of by us classmates. I will still have the bedroom in the basement whenever he decides he wants his own room again.
7 AnswersParenting9 years agoMiddle name on passport, not plane ticket?
I am traveling from Canada to the US next month. I just realized that I failed to include my middle name when I booked my flight, but my middle name appears on my passport. I just called the travel agent I used for the booking and was told I could update the flight security information, but not the name on the actual ticket. I did this to include my middle name. Please tell me I won't have any issue with this!

4 AnswersAir Travel9 years agoSleep training a 12-month-old?
My daughter is 12 months old and, until recently, slept fairly well at night. When she did wake, it was for a bottle, and she quickly went back to sleep. The last couple of months, she has started waking at night and staying up for several hours. In her crib, or even being rocked in her room, she screeches. We have started taking her into our room, just so we can rest a little and get her to stop crying. Should we leave her in the crib and let her cry it out? I have recently returned to work, so it is difficult to function with no sleep at night!
5 AnswersNewborn & Baby9 years agoBright red bleeding 10 days after c-section?
My bleeding had followed it's normal course from red to pink to brown and had stopped completely over the last day or so. Tonight I am experiencing some bleeding that is bright red. Is this a sign of something serious or perhaps just that I need to slow down a little?
6 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoBreech baby 33 weeks, 3 days?
This is my second pregnancy and I learned from my first pregnancy to avoid too much reading and researching on pregnancy related issues. I worried myself to death during the entire pregnancy about every little thing. Thankfully, I vaginally delivered a completely healthy baby boy three years ago. I am now 33 weeks, 3 days into my second pregnancy and my little girle is in a frank breech position.
I fell back into my old habits and what began as some innocent research on the internet, now has me worried to death once more. I would like some insight into the following:
1. Why is my baby breech? I have no uterine abnormalities, other than a retroverted uterus, which is quite common. I am not aware of any other issues such as too much amniotic fluid or heaven forbid, fetal abnormalities.
2. I have the option between trying an ECV (manual turn) or a C-section, but I have concerns regarding both of these. The ECV poses potential risks to the fetus, possibly compressing the umbilical cord or disturbing the placenta, with only about a 65% chance of actually working. The C-section is clearly not my optimal choice. A breech vaginal delivery is too risky and not an option. I would love to hear about any experiences with any of these.
Thanks!
6 AnswersPregnancy1 decade agoBrowsing Bargain Books at chapters.indigo.ca?
I often search an author and then sort by price to see any bargain books available at chapters.ca, however I do not see how it is possible to simply browse all the bargain books available. How would I browse all kids bargain books, for example? This option is not available when you go the books outlet part of the site. Thanks!
2 AnswersBooks & Authors1 decade agoOvarian cyst during pregnancy?
I know ovarian cysts form during ovulation and that you do not ovulate during pregnancy, but is it possible to have a cyst perhaps from your previous cycle? Here's my story: I am 6 weeks pregnant and for the last 24 hours I have had a sharp crampy pain in my lower left abdomen. I spent half the day today at the ER where they ruled out etopic pregnancy and a UTI. I have had ovarian cysts in the past and it feels exactly the same.
3 AnswersPregnancy1 decade agoPolysporin while Pregnant?
I am 6 weeks pregnant. A couple of nights ago I cut my thumb with a knife, and without thinking, I washed it and applied Polysporin for Kids before putting on a band aid. Now I'm worrying so much about it. This is my second pregnancy and I have never taken any kind of medication while pregnant before. It didn't even occur to me until hours later that Polysporin is a medication. I was just thinking about getting the germs out of my cut. Should I be worried about this?

3 AnswersPregnancy1 decade agoCan you buy an electric peninsula fireplace?
I've been shopping around and searching online, but it seems to me that peninsula fireplaces are only available in natural gas or propane. I really hope this is not the case! I really want a fireplace and have no available walls for a typical unit. For various reasons, I am not interested in propane, natural gas, or wood burning.

1 AnswerGarden & Landscape1 decade agoBig leaf Hydrangea Question?
I have a big leaf hydrangea which was purchased last year. This spring there is new growth, but it appears all the old wood died over the winter. Does this mean it won't flower this year?
2 AnswersGarden & Landscape1 decade agoFlowering crabapple tree not flowering?
I have a flowering crabapple tree in my garden that was transplanted in the spring of 2007. That year it flowered beautifully, however in 2008 and now again in 2009 it has produced very few flowers. My research tells me this is usually the case during drought conditions, however many of my neighbours also have flowering crabapples and they haven't had any trouble. Should I be using a fertilizer of some sort?
The tree is on our lawn, which we lime every spring. I know crabapples like slightly acidic soil. Could the lime be causing the lack of flowers?
I live in Atlantic Canada (Zone 5) so these trees are in bloom right now here. The soil here is naturally acidic, hence the lime for our lawn. Also, we transplanted the tree from my father-in-law's yard where it didn't flower well either. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
1 AnswerGarden & Landscape1 decade agoJob Hunting Catch 22?
I am currently working for a public accounting firm and I'm looking for a new job. I would like to work for government instead of a private firm. I don't live in a major centre, so jobs that fit my education & experience do not come along everyday. Such a job has finally been advertised and I want to apply so badly, but there's a tiny problem. The job is with an organization of which my employer is the auditor. It's a financial position and I know there is a very high chance he will be involved in the hiring process. Even if he isn't, I know the head of the HR department knows him well and will immediately notice from my resume that he is my current employer. Is there any way to do this without jeopardizing the job I have now?
4 AnswersOther - Careers & Employment1 decade agoDisciplining an 11 month old?
My son will be one year old next week and has recently started getting angry when something he's playing with (and usually shouldn't be) is taken from him or if he's eating something he really likes and is not being fed fast enough to his liking. He looks at you and makes a yelling sound, he's not really crying as much as shouting. I don't know how to best react to this in order to show him it's not appropriate behaviour. Please don't respond by telling me to let him feed himself or something like that, as it doesn't really answer my question.
15 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoTaking baby's bottle?
I took my son's bottle from him yesterday. He's 11 and a half months old and has been drinking homogenized milk instead of formula for about a month now. My question pertains to the amount of liquid he's drinking, as it's much less than he did with a bottle. He's drinking juice or milk from his sippy cup, but the amount he gets from that is much less than the 6-8 ounces he'd drink from each of his 3 bottles a day. I sat him down before bed tonight and managed to get about 4 ounces of milk in him. He doesn't seem thirsty or dehydrated, but I'm worried because none of his diapers today have had as much pee in them as usual. Of course I realize he won't pee as much if he's not drinking as much, but is there some way I can tell if he's getting enough to drink. Can I trust him to drink enough on his own? For instance, tonight he began refusing his cup after drinking his 4 ounces, so I can only assume he wasn't thirsty.
3 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoCoordinating outfits for family photo?
My son will soon be having his first birthday and we plan on having our first family portraits done around that time. I don't want the three of us (myself, my husband & my son) to wear exactly the same thing, but I also don't want our outfits to clash with one another. My husband will be wearing a brown argyle sweater over a white collared shirt & jeans, my son will be wearing a green striped sweater over a collared white shirt & jeans. Should I also wear brown like my husband, or should I add a third colour to the mix?
