  • Bought a new mountian bike from Canadian Tire, and after a year the front disk brakes have little to no stopping power.?

The title pretty much says it all. I got this bike from Crappy Tire, and after a year I can still stand on the front disk brake with all the power in my hands and pedal with little more effort. My dad says I just have to break in the brakes, but I can't believe that after at least 15 kilometers of riding, probably closer to 20, the front disk brake is still this (profane words here) useless. In a few days, I'm going to have to start riding this bike into town, which will involve a steep hill and a busy intersection at the bottom, and I want to know if I need to put a new brake on this thing or if I really do need to ride the brakes in some more.

  • High capacity, simple MP3 player?

I listen to music. I don't need games, movies, eBooks, Wi-Fi, a camera or even a colorful display (see the Sansa Clip). But there is one thing I need. CAPACITY!

I've got over 25 gigs of music and it will keep growing. I don't want to shell out $300+ for a ZUNE, and wouldn't tolerate an apple product if they were giving them out for free* but it's unlikely they won't fit my criteria anyways. Does anybody have any suggestions?

If you search through my Yahoo! Answers history, you'll find I'm a computers guy, but I suck at research. So, if it has to be via SD expansion, that works, but the SD can't stick out! It will just break off.

*Does an apple product fit this question? Yahoo! Answers would benefit from you listing it here in case someone else wanders by this question. Thanks for your help!

  • Where should I look to buy a Quadrotor/Quadcopter?

I've been getting further and further into remote control animation, and I'm looking to step up from my Lite Hawk Aero. I'm thinking about going for a quad. However, I've never shopped for 'professional' avionics equipment. And by professional, I mean not a pre-built Bluetooth quadcopter (because we all know how that's gonna end).

I'm hoping to mount optics on the unit. No pan/tilt, but wireless transmission is key. Range doesn't have to be extreme, that said, I would like to be able to coast for a few hundred meters without having to run after it.

Does anybody know of any good start-up sites? I feel more than capable of building it, even from scratch, I just can't find any control/power/camera kits.

Thank you very much for any suggestions. I hope I got the right section to post it under, 'general RC avionics' seems to be missing. :P

  • Verbatim 3TB HDD constantly drops connection via USB 3?

Title gives most of it. I have a Sony Vaio with a 'sleep and charge' USB 3. Port. The HDD works on the USB 2 ports (no Sleep 'n Charge) but when it's on the 3 it won't spin up. Ever. I not even during boot. I think it has something to do with the 'green button' software, responsible for the hibernation of the device. It did a terrible job, constantly killing the drive while it was in full blown (over 500 KB/s) use. So I got rid of it. This was after the drive started dropping. Any hints?

  • Why does WWVB coverage vary by time of day?

I just got a watch that syncs to WWVB time signals, and was researching it. I discovered that there are times when it is 'available' in my area and times when it isn't. Here is an example:

    http://www.ntp-time-server.com/images/WWVB_coverag...

    I'm North of Toronto.

If you don't want to write out a description, a website that explains would be awesome.

    Thank you!

  • So... Now that the world didn't end (again)...?

Guess I'll have to be the guy to ask, what is the next 'due date' for earth? Now that 2012 is over, and nothing happened, what date should we fear next?

  • Will my VAIO laptop handle 16GBs of RAM?

I have a SONY VAIO SVE151190S laptop, and am looking to upgrade the RAM chip in it. It currently runs 1x4Gigs @ 1600 MHz. When purchased, the other options were 6 and 8 gigs both at 1333 MHz.

The question: If I stock it with 2x8Gigs, what will happen? I have talked with SONY (four times) and they don't recommend it. They say that it won't recognize it, that my CPU won't accept it and my graphics card will stop working if I install this RAM. (That's what they told me).

My worries are concerning power consumption (will it fry my power unit) and heat production. OS is not to worry, I'm dual booting Ubuntu and (shudder) Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

These are the RAM modules (or RAM kit if you prefer):

  • Tekkit server quantum suit bug?

I am running a tekkit server (3.1.2) and I can't seem to get my quantum suit to work properly. It gives a boost once, such as sprint or jump, and won't do anything then-on. It won't even protect the user. Will updating the server and clients to 3.1.3 fix this problem? I've been wanting to update, the attack turtle sounds cool, but I had a crashing glitch so I reverted. Could that have caused it? A revert from the latest version to 3.1.2? Anyways, thanks for any answers, and happy tekkiting!

Sorry for the poor categorizing-it was a tough choice.

  • Software to use Android tablet as turntable for PC?

I have a Toshiba Thrive tablet, and I just had a wave of interest-is there any software that would allow me to bridge the tablet (USB, Bluetooth or WiFi) to my laptop (Sony VAIIO E-Series). It would be cool, thanks to multi-touch. You could finally start a track AND pull the crossfader at the same time... think of the possibilities!

  • How to make a blog public?

I am trying to create a blog using Blogger, and I was wondering if it is possible to make a blog open so that people don't have to log in to view it and/or comment on it. I am pretty sure it's possible, but I can't find where to change it. The blog isn't that big, so re-creating it is an option if that's the only way.

    Thank you.

  • How can you run the standard 32 bit version of QBasic in a 64 bit operating system?

And no, QB64 is not an option. It isn't what I need. It's a project for school, so there is no room for compromise.

Running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

Please take time to read the question! The best answer for my last question completely ignored it. Thank you!

  • Vaio Laptop touchpad disabled while typing?

Contrary to what it may seem, I don't want to disable my touchpad when I type, but rather enable it. It seems that it is disabled to prevent accidental movement. However, when playing games, this is most inconvenient.

It puzzles me, that Sony would put such a powerful graphics card into a laptop, then disable the touchpad whenever the keyboard is in use. Does anybody know how to re-enable it? I figured it out a long time ago with my neighbor's, but can't for the life of me get it working here.

Sony Vaio E-Series, i3 AMD RADEON 7650M (not that that matters, I'm just proud- it's the first laptop I bought)

    Synaptics ClickPad V8.1

I will be watching this post, so just say if you need anything else.

  • Run a 12v camera with an 18v power supply?

I have an old ORLACO Holland Camera and Monitor (really old, it's a Cathode Ray Tube Monitor) and I am trying to get it to work. Unfortunately, I can't find an power supply for it. Is it OK to run it with 18V? I don't even know the voltage for it, I just know I can't get a response with a 5v 2.5A system and I get a clicking sound when I apply power and flickering lights with when I try to activate the monitor or temperature regulation system 12v 500mA. Does anybody know anything about these systems? It looks really rugged, there is half an inch of rubber around the monitor, but how sensitive are the electronics?

  • Toshiba Satellite L450 Fan Not working?

About 3 years ago, I bought a Toshiba Satellite L450-01M Laptop. I loved it, until my fan stopped working. I couldn't even watch a movie without it shutting down from over-heating. For a brief period of time (A few weeks) the fan started working again. Now it stopped, and I lost it. I tried to take the laptop apart, and that didn't work. I had been using speedfan, but it won't work either. Is anybody else having this problem, and preferably found a solution to it? I am a gamer, so naturally I am broke and need the cooling. Please help me, I am at wit's end! Also, I am a little tech-savvy, I know VB so... Please feel free to use complex language. Thank you!

  • How to take a Remote Screenshot?

At my school, I was using a bit torrent client (left it running, by accident) and the school's technicians flagged me on it. My Vice Principal said that she had a screenshot. My question is, how to you do that and how can I prevent it from happening again (not the client, the screenshot)? Is it possible?

    Thank you in advance.
