5 AnswersClassical8 years agoAt the beginning of the universe was the entropy of the universe at its maximum or its minimum?
If the entropy was at its maximum because of the violence of the creation of the universe how can entropy keep increasing?
If it was at its minimum (i.e. perfectly ordered, as Boltzman considered order and disorder) does that not contradict it being such a violent and hot affair?
3 AnswersPhysics8 years agoDo living things defy the second law of thermodynamics?
“When a system that is not alive is isolated or placed in a uniform environment...temperature becomes uniform by heat conduction. After that the whole system fades away into a dead, inert lump of matter...The physicist calls this the state of thermodynamically equilibrium, or maximum entropy.” from What is Life by Erwin Schrodinger

6 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs9 years agoWhat is it about water that makes it conducive to life?
What are the qualities of water that make it conducive to life?
Could another compound have the same qualities but at different pressures and temperatures, and wouldn't this make that substance conducive to life, for example methane on Titan, which is in liquid form?
5 AnswersAstronomy & Space9 years agoWhy do scientists believe that life is most likely to exist within the goldilocks zone of a solar system?
Is this not biased by the experience of our planet, but we don't know if our planet is the exception.
Why do scientists believe that life needs water; could it not result from similar interactions of different elements which are in a different form because of different temperatures, pressures etc?

4 AnswersPhysics9 years agoWere US soldiers who fought in Iraq exploited?
1/3 of homeless people in the USA are veterans.
Multi-national corporations such as Halliburton made millions from the war.
7 AnswersCurrent Events9 years agoWhy do news reports always mention the number of Americans killed in Iraq but never the number of Iraqi dead?
Polls always say "Do you think the Iraq war was worth 4000 American dead?" etc but never "Do you think the Iraq war was worth 114,000 Iraqi civilians?" or "Do you think the war was worth the permanent maiming of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi children?" etc.

5 AnswersPsychology9 years agoWhy is a scientific theory only valid if it is falsifiable?
How can Darwin's theory of evolution be falsified? Or more specifically how can his theory of natural selection be falsified? Why not operate on the success of a theory in meeting observations, rather than on it's falsifiability?
P.s.
(please understand I am not doubting Darwin's theories, I am doubting Karl Poppers theories on science)
