  • Why does alcohol have a lower freezing point?

Yes, I'm aware that ethanol has a freezing point, like most substances in liquid state. But what's the chemical function behind ethanol's resistance to freezing at water's standard freezing point?

  • Has anyone ever had skin allergy to nickel-containing finger rings?

I have severe allergic responses to dermal contact with nickel, which is why i choose to wear white gold or hypoallergic metals. just today i had my first reaction in years. my torso, thighs, neck, and chest exploded into hives. i've been wearing a stainless surgical ring on my left index finger for the past five months or so. i never had any responses. i did wash the ring with soap today, but i'm a little doubtful that surgical steel is so easily oxidized by the common hand soap (since it's considered hypoallergic). has anyone had a ring rash before (from wearing nickel-containg finger rings)? is it possible to not get any skin rashes where the ring was, but throughout the rest of the body instead? i'm just trying to eliminate the possibility that the ring caused the allergic response. my fingers are fine. the rest of my body is not.

  • Sometimes stings when I smoke?

Does your face sometimes sting when you smoke cigarettes? Is that small bits of ash and ember? Does that do any permanent damage to your skin?

  • Cigarette ashes/embers fly about?

I've been smoking for a good 8 months now. I can't help but get paranoid every time ash or a small glowing ember flies off the cigarette when I inhale or tap (to remove ash). Does any of that do any permanent damage if it comes in contact with the skin?

  • Frequent Urination and Soreness?

For almost two months I've been experiencing frequent urination. At first the urine came in large waves, meaning that I would not only urinate frequently but in large amounts. However, there have been times when I've felt a great urge to urinate but haven't actually urinated very much. I've seen a doctor about this and a urine sample revealed that there was no infection. I've already ruled out diabetes as the excessive thirst factor isn't there (in fact, i've been drinking less liquids than usual).

There is also a slight soreness in my lower bowels after urination. Has anyone else experienced this before?

  • wireless connection problem (DELL XPS M1710 laptop)?

Hello. Before I moved into my college dorm room my wireless connection was working fine. I was able to surf the net at home without any problems. As soon as i moved into my dorm i had to switch to cable connection. I was required to register to the school network and set up a DNS server connection on my TCP/protocol settings. Afterwards, I tried using IntelProset/wireless. I can connect to an open wireless network without any trouble (good reception). However, I still can't seem to surf the net. Did registering into the school network through LAN somehow alter the settings? If so, how can i get my wireless connection back?

  • Can benzoyl peroxide change the color of your lips?

I've been using benzoyl peroxide acne medication for a week or so. I apply the lotion to my face before bed every night. It's a Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5% lotion by Neutrogena advanced solutions.

I noticed slight yellowing around the edges of my upper lip. I'd applied the lotion around my lips (not on them) as well as all over my face.

Is it possible for the benzoyl peroxide to discolor my lips, or am i just being paranoid? If discoloration is possible, would my lips return to the normal hue?

  • Any Asians who had plastic surgery?

Are there any Asians out there who had plastic surgery to their skull structure (for aesthetic purposes, not due to deformities), as in mandibular (jaw) reduction or other skull reduction? If so, were you satisfied? Where did you have it done? And how can I find good surgeons?

  • Thinner after exercise?

Why is it that my face looks much thinner after a workout? Sometimes I barely sweat, but my face looks so thin. Is it because my facial muscles tense during exercise, causing my face to tighten? Or is it because I break down the immediate fat in my face during exercise? More or less, my face looks more bloated the next morning... Why is that so?

  • Safest Method of Skin Whitening???

I've been looking into some products and researching on procedures to whiten my skin. It seems that the laser procedure is highly risky and can cause hyperpigmentation, so I've already decided to oust that option. Hydroquinone also sounds like a pretty dangerous chemical, considering it doesn't just affect the skin, but several immunity organs.

Bottom line... Are there any topical products out there that won't make my skin permanently darker or cause irreparable damages through some freak side effect? If so, what are the brand names and what are the products composed of?
