  • What was the short story where after a nuclear war in the future machines still ran?

The story told of robots that continued cleaning and making food long after the humans were gone. It had passages that told of the silhouettes burned into the side of the house and a sick dog that dies in a house and the machine comes and carries him off. I read it in school and cannot remember the title or the author for the life of me.

  • Whelping complications continued.....?

    Original Question here: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AvWXp...

Believe me there is nothing I would like right now then to take my dog to the vet. However I live in a small town with one vet who seems to not be reachable today. During the pregnancy I kept in contact with the vet and researched and applied everything I could. It's not like I just sat back and let nature do all the work. If you read the previous question. She did birth one pup fine. Once it became apparent that there was a problem I took her to the vet who upon examination found 2 more pups and told me that one of the two was deceased. He gave her an injection to get contractions going and within half an hour the 2nd healthy pup was born. That was Friday. Saturday evening she birthed the deceased pup. My first concern is infection of course becuse of the deceased pup. Metritis would probably be the main culprit in this case so I looked up the symptoms.

    * Discharge from the vulva that smells bad; discharge with pus, or pus mixed with blood; discharge that is dark green:

At first after the birth of the deceased pup yes there was some foul dark colored discharge going on. However as time passed the discharge has become far less potent bearing on no smell at all and is now clear.

    * Swollen, dough-like abdomen- No, she does not have this one. As a matter of fact she looks famished. Which stands to reason because I was feeding her 2-3 times the usual amount of food required and she was huge while pregnant. I don't get this at all. She did stop eating a day before the birth and hasn't had much if anything since. Nearly 3 days.

    * Dehydration- She does seem to be a tad dehydrated but it doesn't seem severe. Her nose is cool and wet, she has watery eyes, her skin doesn't snap back into place but it doesn't stay pinched either. She does go to the water bowl about once every hour for a good drink.

    * Dark red gums- They are not Dark red but bright red if not pink.

    * Fever- This I haven't been able to check but as soon as I can I will.

    * Reduced milk production- The two surviving pups feed well and are not whiny and nap good and have fat little bodies. That may just be her original milk production though.

    * Depression- She was never really a lively dog. She was given to us by someone who had 4 other dachshunds and they said the other dogs used to pick fights with her a lot. She has always been distant but loves wagging her tail when she is in a loving mood. After the first pup was born she was walking around wagging her tail. I haven't seen it today though.

Lack of appetite- She won't eat anything offered to her.

    * Neglect of puppies- No she takes care of them well. Let's them suckle and licks them from time to time.

    * Increased heart rate if the bacterial infection has become systemic- Doesn't seem fast to me when compared to our male.

So taking all this into consideration should I be worried or not? The one I really don't like is the not eating. She isn't vomiting the water or anything like that. She isn't frequently urinating either.

I will get her spayed as soon as she is ready for it. I'll never have puppies again. Might stud out our male though.

  • Complications of still born puppy?

My dachshund just gave birth this week. She had a little girl pup about 8 am on the 22nd. After 5 hours of not giving birth to another I took her to a vet who after an exam told me she had two pups left but that one was probably not alive. He gave her a shot of some hormones to get labor kicked up again and within half an hour she had given birth to a second healthy pup. I noticed that she did not expel the afterbirth right away but I let her go on. That was about 3pm on the 22nd. She later got the after birth out around 7pm. That left only the deceased pup. Last night I noticed a foul odor in the air and noticed that she was having contractions again. I had to help but she finally got the deceased pup out. I noticed the cord had deteriorated to nothing and that the usual membrane that covers the pups was absent. I do not know if she expelled the afterbirth prior to this or not but she has to expel anything else. She is having an awful smelling discharge. I'm just wondering if there is anything else I should look out for in the next few days. She hasn't taken any food since a day before she went into labor. She even refused a nice snack of jerky. She has been drinking water pretty steadily though.

  • Which is the best Division in the NFL?

To me it's the AFC West. With Denver, San Diego, and KC you have three teams that have legitimate chances of making it to the Superbowl. Not to mention 3 of the best running teams in the league.

  • Carl Sagan?

I'm sure many of you are familiar with his work. The PBS TV Series "Cosmos" was a huge success in the early 80's. If you have never been able to see these shows I recommend doing a search on some Video sites like Youtube. I was wondering besides the "Cosmos" series what some of your favorite works by this great man are. My personal favorites are his books "Pale Blue Dot" and "The Demon haunted World".

  • Evolution or Creationism?

I'm sure this topic has been beaten to death but a fresh perspective is always nice.

It is my opinion that Evolution is fact.

I think the whole controversy is that Evolution doesn't disprove A God. It does however disprove the Christian God by throwing the whole book of Genesis out the window. This forced CHristians to have the whole Intelligent Design thing drawn up. Anyway you look at it the Bible has been scientifically disproven. To be fair I'm Agnostic. I never discount anything for sure as long as there isn't any evidence to the Contrary. So I say yes there could be a God. Just not any that humans have conjured out of thin air.

    So What are your thoughts?

  • Will Socialism be the Economic standard 50 years from now?

It seems to me that Capitalism isn't gonna work as we get farther into the future. i believe for a stable society Socialism must rise to the front as the Economic standard. I feel in the future all basic human needs must be provided free of charge ie food, water, shelter, heat, healthcare and higher education.
