  • 70's crime/drama movie- what's it called?

I think it's from the 70's... There's an escaped convict/criminal who's hitchhiking I think... anyway a young couple picks him up somehow, he pulls a gun and forces them to drive him cross country in their car. The blonde wife (my vague memories were of her looking like Sally Struthers but I don't think it was her) ends up sleeping with the kidnapper... at some point they stop at a motel where the husband says he needs to use the bathroom, but he commits suicide- there was some evangelist on the radio when they found him hanging.

Anybody know what film this was?

  • New computer- transfer old email?

    Hello,

My uncle is finally getting a new computer with Windows 7. What steps must he take to ensure his old e-mail messages, contacts etc are transferred over cleanly from his old Windows 2000 computer running Outlook? I mean no duplicate folders, just one inbox which contains his original messages etc.

I heard Windows 7 Mail won't import from old versions of Outlook, so he'll need to buy Microsoft Office Home & Business, but how does he get the important stuff from the old machine? Thanks!!!

  • Reasonable cost for home CAT5 installation?

We live in a single story 3-bedroom home in California (raised foundation) and currently have broadband access with generally reliable wireless access, but of course it's wireless. I'd like to have CAT5 or CAT6 jacks wired to each of the bedrooms and living room (3 runs from the master bedroom). What do you think a reasonable cost would be for someone to install that?

  • Good deals for storage in los angeles, ca?

I'm moving soon and will need to put a lot of stuff into storage, at least for a few months. However, storage prices in L.A. are high. I've seen a couple of 1 month free deals, but does anyone know of a company with climate controlled units that's reasonable, anywhere around the Mid-City, West L.A., Culver City or Santa Monica areas?

  • 30 day notice to landlord & other questions?

I plan on moving out of my apartment shortly. I've been here for several years, so it's month to month.

Here in California we're required to give 30-day notice. However, whose name should I put on the notice? Should it be the landlord's name (who collects the rent) or the owner (to whom the checks are written)?

I assume that getting them the notice today (the 1st) is sufficient for moving out by the 31st. If I wanted to make my move-out date the 2nd or 3rd, would I simply have to pay the pro-rated rent amount for those additional 1-2 days?

  • Mac automated backup software?

A friend just bought an external drive for her Mac... Is there some form of scheduled backup software included with OS X or earlier versions? She wants to automatcially copy files to her drive. I know this comes free with most external drives but I'm more familiar with PCs.

  • XP upgrade installation- Win98 cannot boot?

I have an old Windows 98 machine which currently isn't bootable, some system files are missing following a crash long ago. However, there are some installed software programs I want to keep.

Can I simply boot the Windows XP upgrade CD, or does the upgrade need to run from within Windows?

  • Spreadsheet or simple database?

I need to keep track of market news stories. I'll be entering data daily- a list of stock symbols, the date, news source and headline summary.

But I'm not sure whether this should be a spreadsheet or simple database. I want to be able to see all entries sorted alphabetically, chronologically, or by news source (with secondary sort being being chronological)

The problem with doing this as a spreadsheet is the list will be constantly growing and I wish to avoid manually highlighting the entire range (which may be several pages) and specifying data/sort...

Can I make an excel spreadsheet that sorts automatically as new rows are added, or could peform the sort on all rows with one button?

If I create an Access database instead, can I conveniently see all of the records sorted in the ways described above? And would entering the data be as easy as filling in an excel spreadsheet?

  • Photographers- CD images for models?

I'm a long-time amateur photographer who recently photographed a model for a project I'm working on. It wasn't a TFCD shoot, I paid her. However, she requested that I send her the images on CD so she could learn from seeing all of her poses/expressions, not just the best ones from the shoot.

She agrees only to post any images that we agree upon, but my question is more pratical- would you send her reduced resolution images or full-size, watermarked or not? I'm not taking the time to edit/retouch- just curious what photographers who do this regularly have to say...

    Thanks!
