  • Credit repair and collection account question! How do I delete the original creditor and collection account?

I had a credit card that went to collections (I was young and stupid), and now want to try and resolve the matter on my credit report. I have two entries listed; one from the original creditor and one from the collection account. I'm prepared to pay the debt in full and see if I can negotiate to get the entry taken off my credit report. The problem is, how do I get BOTH entries deleted? And who do I pay? The collection account or the original creditor? I don't want to double-pay for this account, but want to see if I can negotiate to get the original debt and thus the collection off my report. Any advice would be appreciated!

  • What do I take out of my salary?

This is a rather embarrassing question for an HR professional to ask, but payroll is not my specialty, so I'm hoping someone else can help.

I am working from home and I get paid through paypal. Pure cash basically! No taxes taken out. I need to know what I need to take out and how. I know how to pay my income taxes, no problem.

But what about social security and medicare? Obviously, since i'm self-employed, there would be no SUTA.

What percentages do I take it out of and where do I send?

    Thanks!

  • What's with all the prophets?! (Christians only)?

Not meaning an offense to anyone in particular. I'm a non-denominational christian who has been to a TON of private christian schools. I've been exposed to a lot of different denominations and my question....what's with all the prophets?

LDS have Joseph Smith, SDA have Ellen White, Catholics have the pope, etc, etc.

It seems tome like every denomination or at least quite a few, have their own 'prophet' set up as some higher authority. These prophets even write their own texts (aka 'The Book of Mormon") and claim it comes from God. I'm not saying it doesn't!

My question is, what makes your organizations prophet:

A: More right than all the other 'prophets'

B: Of equal status to the prophets in the new testament

C: Dogmatically right all the time (in other words, could they be wrong about anything?)

Serious question! Don't bash me please.

  • Why McCain if not Hillary?

This is a legitimate question. I am confused because I've heard so many people say if Hillary is not the nominee, they will vote for McCain. Can someone help me understand this? Because you would think that if you wanted to vote for Hillary, you would be loathe to vote for McCain! Consider the following differences:

Hillary: Wants to bring troops home and end war

McCain: I could do with a 100 more years of this...

    Hillary: Universal Healthcare

    McCain: You're on your own

    Hillary: Economic plan

    McCain: Economics...? Er...

Hillary: Let's lower taxes for the middle class!

McCain: Bush tax cuts sound great (for those making over $200,000 a year)!

Yeah...so....anyone?! Wouldn't Obama be an obvious alternative to McSame?

  • Should I sue?! Do I have a chance?

My father went into the hospital after suffering cardiac arrest. He had blockage in two of his arteries, one 70% and the other was 93% though we didn't know it was that bad at the time. They put a stint in the first artery (70%) and we thought he was going to be okay. They gave him a stress test, said he was doing better but they wanted to build his heart strength back up before putting a stint in the second artery. They took him out of PCU (Primary Care Unit) and onto a regular floor....with no heart monitor.

He suffered cardiac arrest two days later. They didn't find him until it was too late. They managed to revive him and he had too much brain damage.

My question is....could this be considered negligance, knowing he had such a bad heart condition, but still putting him in a room with no monitor? Do i have a chance if I go at them? They've been featured in the newspaper (the hospital) as having a lot of money but poor care for patients. What do you think?

  • Stimulus Check question- Will I get one cause I owe them money?!?

I read somewhere that if you owe the IRS any money, you won't get your check. I owe a small amount and have a pay out plan currently in process. Will I still get a stimulus check?!

  • Should I take this job? What would you do?! Opinions please!?

Okay, so I've been out of work for about four months now and been doing consulting work which means we get by. I have enough in savings to last another four months if necessary, but I'm getting frustrated and impatient.

This job is for a management position, is very close to me (saves on gas!) which is big because a lot of the positions in my field are at least 20 or more miles away. The pay is good, a bit above market, and there are a couple of other factors that make this job very appealing, mostly to do with convenience.

But the very HUGE downside is my new supervisor who I will have to be working with. He is, in one word, a jerk. He's arrogant, exceptionally picky, and the woman in this position told me he is very hard to work with. Despite our obvious personality clash, he likes me and wants me to come on board. I'm worried however that our different styles will clash and I will end up miserable trying to please someone who I could never please! The benefits suck too. Help!

  • How do we claim inheritance tax if the parent is still alive?

My father wants to leave me the value of some property he is selling ($90,000), and since it's all he owns and he was going to leave me the property in his will anyway, he says it's inheritance and we know people who have left their children inheritance while they're still alive. So my question is, how would we claim this as inheritance and not a 'gift' under the IRS? Do we need to fill out a form? Does he have to be dead for this to take affect? Is there a limit on how much you can claim as inheritance?!

  • Is anyone else frustrated by the illegals refusal to become American?!?

This whole immigration debate is big! So let me make myself clear; I am NOT against immigration! I am against ILLEGAL immigration! And the biggest problem I have with illegals isn't just them breaking the law by being here in the first place, but that most of them REFUSE to actually adapt to the American way of life! They won't learn English, they expect us to cater to them, they fly the MEXICAN flag (why do I see that everywhere?! This is NOT Mexico!), and for all intents and purposes they act like they want to be here, but I have not seen any evidence they are willing to culturally adapt!

Am I off base here? Is this a perception issue? Does anyone else notice this?!

  • Family drama!! Should my Dad sell the property behind Grandma's back?! What would YOU do?!?

Okay, so here is the situation: My father owns about 16 acres of land. My grandparent's gave this to him because they were right-wing radicals who believed that paying property taxes violated their constitutional rights, and so they didn't pay taxes and almost lost the entire land to the IRS! My father paid the taxes and saved the land, and they signed it over to him, with the provision that they have a 'life time estate', meaning they both have the right to live on that land. Fast forward twenty years later: My grandparents divorced and both moved off the property. They divorced mainly so my grandmother could get her previous husband's social security, which was higher. My grandfather was diagnosed with alzheimers and eventually dies. My grandmother can't live on the property by herself but doesnt want us to sell it either because of memories. He's selling it anyway behind her back and not letting her know. Is this wrong?! She's suicidally depressed and wants to cling to the past!

  • Trust Fund Tax Question!!!?

Okay, I really need help with this one! I'm hoping someone in the tax profession or someone else can answer this.

We won a lawsuit for my mother and brother's wrongful death when I was four years old. The money was put in a Federal trust for me, with a principle of $200,000 dollars. This was non-taxable as I understand it! Now...almost ALL of that money has been put into mutal funds over the past several years. It grew at one point, but now, when I recently got the money (21 years later) it's down to $86,000.

    Here are my questions:

    1. Can we claim a capital loss on this?

    Or

    2. Is this money taxed individually year by year? In other words, whatever the mutual funds gain or lose is taxed individually for that single year, not as a whole?

Understand I had no control over how this money was managed, and I'm not sure how I can be taxed for something which wasn't even income at the time! So how would this be handled?
