I am a researcher in Hungary dealing with family sociology, family policy and demography. I am also interested in politology (and politics) and the sociology of religion and of values. Besides social science I am also interested in other scientific topics like cosmology. My main research topic is how to raise too low fertility of developed countries by helping young families with such measures as family allowance, paid child care leave schemes and the system of kindergartens. I am also interested in such topics as the changes of nuptiality, cohabitation, births out of wedlock and gender roles. I am 40 years old, I have a wife and three children. I like such authors as Tolkien, C. S. Lewis, Saint-Exuperry. If you need some information in connection with social science topics, I am ready to help you, and if you want to discuss any of the mentioned topics or authors, just write to me. My e-mail address is tarkanyi@demografia.hu
Do you agree that WTO causes more harm than profit to the USA?
US businessmen invest in China and other 3rd world countries (India, Indonesia etc.) in stead of the USA. They do this because wages are much lower in those countries. So their costs are lower. But they can sell their products in the USA with a big profit because WTO means free trade. This way they grows the GDP of China (and other countries) and shrink the GDP of the USA. This means a lower income from tax - and so a higher debt - to the US government and a higher unemployment rate to the American people and also a smaller financial source for public tasks (health care, roads etc.) for them. Customs on Chinese products could lower American profits on them and so make the businessmen more interested in investing in America. But higher customs would go against WTO I think. So then WTO helps to maintain a situation harmful to the USA. Am I right? What do you think?
3 AnswersInternational Organizations9 years agoWould you describe average wages and typical costs of living in your country?
I live in Hungary, where average monthly wages (salaries) are around 500 USD (or 350-400 euros). I know it is not too high in international comparison, at least among developed countries. But costs of living are relatively low, too, here, at least prices of food or other products. But housing costs - I mean the price of electricity, gas, water - are high. And that is why are our household budgets are mostly tight.
For example you might buy one kilogram (2 pounds) of bread or one litre of milk for about 1 USD (I mean its equivalent in HUF), 1 kilogram of meat for 2-6 USD (depending on its type - I also mean liver etc.). I think we have to pay about 400-500 USD for housing costs monthly. Our monthly family income is about 850 USD. (I have a wife and three children and we live in an average sized flat.)
What about your country? Could you give me some similar examples?
2 AnswersEconomics1 decade agoAre there Christian films on not religous topics?
Can you give me some examples? I mean films without advertising sin, still interesting films about real life (not necessarily, but especially of our days). By Christian films people tend to mean only films about explicitly religious topics (eg. about the Bible). But why should a film about any other topic completely lack moral value (or be too sentimental or didactic at that)?
7 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoHow could I have more spiritual profit from sermons?
I can hear so many good sermons on Sundays with interesting and valuable thoughts, but I cannot remember them. I wonder if anyone can remember so many things they hear in the church throughout years. But still I would like to remember more and see some real positive impact of them on my life.
2 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhat if BP would cut the tube again?
BP experts tried to cut the oil tube (using robots) and put a new tube there and let the oil into the new tube. But somehow the trial was not successful. But I wonder why they do not give it a try again, when the idea basically still seems to be good. Should they try this again? What do you think about this?
2 AnswersEngineering1 decade agoDid bioethanol in cars prove to be an economical system in Brazil?
2 AnswersInvesting1 decade agoBioethanol in cars - is it really economical?
I would like to know if bioethanol can really substitute petrol or not. Some say that its production consumes as much energy as it contains. Some see it as a real substitute for petrol. It seems to me that petrol might soon be not enough for the world's needs. Would bioethanol production be a good solution any goverment should support or not?
