  • Can anyone help me find a New Testament passage?

I do not remember if these were Christ's words, Paul's, John's, or one of the other disciples, so I don't remember which NT book even, but it's prophecy, that a man will change Christ's church to where it will barely be recognizable any more. Does anyone know this passage?

  • Need help finding a NT passage?

Can anyone help me find a passage in the New Testament? I do not remember if this was Christ's words or one of the disciples, so I don't remember which NT book even, but it's prophecy, that a man of the future (our past, of course) will change Christ's church to where it will barely be recognizable any more. Does anyone know this passage?

  • A question to Jewish people, especially those who know Hebrew?

Can anyone direct me to a good, well translated into English version of the Tanakh? I would like to read the Old Testament as understood by the Jews, but haven't a clue on which to get. I don't know a word of Hebrew, and it would need to be rather easy to read (in today's plain English), if there is such a good one. Thank you for your help.

  • Do you think the USA will get the Olympics in 2016?

Do you think it should be in the USA?

Personally, I hope not. Some other time when peace is more prevalent, sure, but I think it's too dangerous in this era. Unfortunately, I think it may happen simply because whomever funded Obama to run for office will probably pay off the committee to give him the olympics. I have a bad feeling about it. i know the O just wants it under his belt, but the conspiracy theorist in me thinks there's more up the corruption sleeves than that.

  • Is Star Trek becoming a reality in our politics, too?

Wow, this is creepy. I just watched an episode of Star Trek (TNG), where Hugh the Borg is telling Riker and Warf what happened to them all after he was sent back and his newly-found individuality confused the whole race. This was filmed 16 years ago, and is a good indication that this kind of controlling government always did, does, and will operate in much the same way. The tactics don't change, and it's quite visible in our life right now, more people just need to open their eyes and recognize it . . .

Hugh: You probably can't imagine what it's like to be so lost and frightened that you will listen to any voice that promises change.

Warf: Even if that voice insists on controlling you?

Hugh: That's what we wanted, someone to show us the way out of confusion. Lore promised clarity and purpose. In the beginning, he seemed like a savior with the promise of becoming a superior race, of becoming fully artificial was compelling, and we gladly did everything that he asked of us. But after a while it became clear that Lore had no idea how to keep his promise. That's when he began talking about the need for us to make sacrifices; before we realized it, this was the result (shown two disfigured borgs, jerking in vegetative state).

    Riker: What happened to them?

Hugh: Lore began to experiment, trying to remake us in his image.

  • What do you think of having no party?

I was approached by someone to sign a petition for the Green Party. I didn't because I didn't know enough about them, so I took a flier and read it later. It seems to me that they, like most every party (yes, even reps and dems) have some issues they agree on. Some agree more than others, but there are so many parties it's starting to become a useless point to have them, and actually making the two party system not work. There are conservative democrats and there are liberal republicans, even, so why bother with these distinctions? Personally, I'm tired of the fighting, it's time to knock it off and start becoming productive. I don't see why we can't just abolish the whole party thing and vote on issue individually.

  • Parents of young adults: Any good maturing books you know of?

Does anyone know of a good book meant for young adults to read about transitioning to adulthood? Meant for the kind of person who's holding on to being a kid too long, one that would really hit home. My son turns 23 tomorrow, has no career (just delivers pizza), tries one college path after another only to drop out after the first few weeks, and asked for game paddles for his birthday! (No, I'm NOT getting him game paddles, I'll get him a microwave oven!) His only girlfriend was short-term when he was 16, lives with a roommate but is forever short on cash, hangs out with the same boys he has since grade school, and they're all the same type, adolescent adults who want the freedom of grown-ups but refuse to take on the responsibilities of those freedoms. I have cut him off from my wallet, but he needs a push to start life that I can't seem to give him. I suggested church, finding new friends, focusing on school, all sorts of things, but he gets angry when I bring this up. He does take advice better from someone other than mom, so does anyone know of any excellent books that's meant for HIM to read, one that really hits home with this generation?

  • What are some good and unique fitness programs out there?

I'm investigating different and interesting activities people can do for physical activity that can be done at home (or outdoors, but not needing to sign up for a gym). Some examples are video games like Dance Dance Revolution, Wii Fit, and others. And Latin exercise like Zumba. Does anyone know of other fun, interesting, and not the usual stuff that works well for shedding pounds and getting fit?

  • Do Re Me dance in Belgian train station?

Sorry for this being off topic, but I posted it in Entertainment and got no response. So I'm wondering if anyone here knows...

I've looked around the internet but can't find any comments made by Julie Andrews herself on the wonderful train station dance last March in Belgium. Anyone know if there's anything online with her opinion?

I'm sure most people have seen it by now, but in case you haven't, here's the video of it; its wonderful, such a joy to watch:

  • What does this hand symbol mean in early Christian art?

I've noticed that many early Christian paintings, primarily Byzantine, depict this hand symbol. See the examples below, but if the links don't work, it's painting of Christ, God, Mary, or any number of saints holding their thumb and ring finger together, with the rest of the fingers up. Much like an 'ok' sign, but with the ring finger. I understand that the thumb, ring, and pinky (all three) symbolizes the Trinity, but there are hundreds of paintings showing just the two fingers touching. Does anyone know what's the meaning of it?

  • Does your hand tingle when holding the Bible?

For all those who will want to give a 'smart ***' answer, don't bother, I already know myself this is odd. But as odd as it is, it happens.

I came across this realization by accident... One day I noticed when my hand is on the Bible, it begins to tingle, even up the arm a bit. It was so odd that I tested it with both hands, it happens on both sides but is stronger on the left. I thought maybe I have a pinched nerve in the shoulder or something, so I tested it in different positions of sitting or standing, it still happens. Here's the clincher, though; I tested it with other books, but I did NOT get the tingles. I wasn't looking for this, I noticed it one day when I started to doze off and my hand was laying on the Bible, and it was so noticeable that it woke me out of my doze, after that I started to test it.

Has anyone heard of such a thing??

  • Something young people today don't know about Lincoln.?

Someone commented in an earlier post that Lincoln was an agnostic, and it reminded me about a story in my history book, back in the late 60's, before they changed all the history. I thought some people here might find this interesting...

My history book had a story and a hand drawn picture of Lincoln writing at a desk at night, by candle light. The chapter talked about his Christian faith (he was not an agnostic, that's been changed in the books), but I can't remember which: Protestant, Lutherean, Baptist, etc.. While writing, he was interrupted by someone, and when he looked up he saw it was a demonic spirit standing in front of him, an ugly devil was depicted in the drawing. Not being shaken at all because he knew as a leader he'd be getting attacked by them, and his faith was strong and he simply said, "Oh, it's you! Be gone!" And simply went back to his writing and the demon had to leave. The story was told by his housekeeper who witnessed it from the other room.

When my son went to school, I tried to find this in his history books, I looked in every grade's history books... gone! Does anyone know if any books still tell this story? This and many other things have been taken out and changed since. What a shame, we don't know our real history.

  • Why do most Christians believe that salvation is achieved by faith alone?

Most non-Catholic Christians believe this, in fact it's one of the disputes between Catholics and Protestants, but the bible is very clear that it takes both:

James 2:14-26 (a book written directly by James the apostle)

14 How does it help, my brothers, when someone who has never done a single good act claims to have faith? Will that faith bring salvation?

15 If one of the brothers or one of the sisters is in need of clothes and has not enough food to live on,

16 and one of you says to them, 'I wish you well; keep yourself warm and eat plenty,' without giving them these bare necessities of life, then what good is that?

17 In the same way faith, if good deeds do not go with it, is quite dead.

18 But someone may say: So you have faith and I have good deeds? Show me this faith of yours without deeds, then! It is by my deeds that I will show you my faith.

19 You believe in the one God -- that is creditable enough, but even the demons have the same belief, and they tremble with fear.

20 Fool! Would you not like to know that faith without deeds is useless?

21 Was not Abraham our father justified by his deed, because he offered his son Isaac on the altar?

22 So you can see that his faith was working together with his deeds; his faith became perfect by what he did.

23 In this way the scripture was fulfilled: Abraham put his faith in God, and this was considered as making him upright; and he received the name 'friend of God'.

24 You see now that it is by deeds, and not only by believing, that someone is justified.

25 There is another example of the same kind: Rahab the prostitute, was she not justified by her deeds because she welcomed the messengers and showed them a different way to leave?

26 As a body without a spirit is dead, so is faith without deeds.

  • The definition of conservatives; how can this have received any thumbs down?

Someone asked the question what comes to mind when you hear the word 'conservative', and I gave this answer:

    con·ser·va·tive

    \kən-ˈsər-və-tiv\

    adjective

preservative; tending or disposed to maintain existing views, conditions, or institutions; traditional; marked by moderation or caution; marked by or relating to traditional norms of taste, elegance, style, or manners

It did get more thumbs up then down, but the issue isn't about the number of thumbs in either way, but how can anyone give a thumbs down at all? It's the definition in the Merriam-Webster dictionary, simply a definition of the word. So does this mean some people disagree with the definition?? Or just that libs like to skew things to their liking, regardless of a fact? To me, this is a sign of a mind that is both deceitful as well as easy to be deceived.

  • If several states actually do secede from the union, would you be willing to move? To which part?

The idea of the USA splitting up is a real possibility. Several state governments are quietly meeting on this topic and are considering a recall of their military back to their home states, appointing their own Commander in Chief, etc. If this actually happens, would you live in the part that wants to return to the original constitution, or would you live in the part with Obama as president? Would you (need to) move to be there?

And please don't give me brain-dead answers that I'm having pipe-dreams and it'll never happen; it may or may not, this is a hypothetical question at this time (although the discussions among the states are quite real).

  • Did you see this article about U.S. in Pravda (Russian news) recently?

Pravda, a Russion newspaper no less, wrote an article that the whole world is reading . . . and laughing at the fools in the United States who voted in Obama and allowing him to take apart our country. The problem is, we all have to take the brunt of it. Read it, you who don't even know the monster you've voted into office, and wake up to what's going on and see what the American news is not wanting you to see.
