  • Is a BA in philosophy a good basis for a degree in journalism?

I am currently majoring in Political Science and minoring in Philosophy, but I find Poli-Sci intensely dull, and I love philosophy. I am taking a semester off to rethink things, and I've all but decided to switch my major with my minor. I think I want to go to journalism school afterward, but I'm not sure if a degree in philosophy is a good basis for that. Is it?

  • Does a full dosage of Wellbutrin XL wear off at the end of the day?

I'm taking Wellbutrin XL for depression, but I've only been taking it for four days at 150 mg/day. After seven days (three more) my dosage is being increased to 300 mg/day. I've noticed that I feel up and motivated and happy during the day, but at night I'm becoming very anxious, and the medication feels like it's wearing off.

I am jittery like I've had too much caffeine, and I'm having a lot of negative thoughts. For example, there's a woman I like, and I spend a lot of time thinking about her. During the day, the thoughts are fine. Then, after the medication starts to wear off, things aren't so great. It basically goes from "well, maybe she likes me" to "there's no way in hell she would ever go near me". Obviously this is unpleasant.

Has anyone else experienced this dropping-off in effectiveness on these pills? If so, does it continue to drop off after switching to a full dosage?

  • Where can I a picture of Superman posing, as painted by Alex Ross?

I'm sure I've seen a picture of Superman by Alex Ross where Supes has his fists on his hips, is turned a bit to the left, and is looking up and to the right. I can't seem to find it online.

Does anyone know what image I'm talking about?

  • Where can I find Planet Earth/Life combo narrated by Attenborough?

I have found Blu-Ray combo packs with the BBC series Planet Earth and Life with Planet Earth narrated by Oprah and LIfe narrated by David Attenborough. I would like to buy a pack that includes both original UK versions with Attenborough's narration. Is this available anywhere?

And please don't tell me to Google it or just post links to Amazon. I've already tried both, that's why I'm here. I haven't noticed anything. (It is late, maybe I'm missing it.)

  • Which metal song has the word "chaos" repeated over and over in it?

I was at a metal show a few weeks back, and one of the songs that was playing over the PA between bands kept saying "chaos" over and over again in it. It sounded like a fairly recent song.

Anyway, the song was pretty awesome and I want to check out the band.

  • ATHEISTS: How do you rationalize moral behaviour?

This is a serious question, not an attack on your beliefs/lack thereof. I tried to ask the same question yesterday, but apparently I worded it poorly, and it came off negatively.

I am look for specific examples, perhaps books, or your own opinions, or anything you can think of that helps to guide you morally. If you simply believe morality is innate in you, that answer will suffice as well, though it does leave open the question as to where that innateness comes from.

Again, I want to stress, this is not an attack. I recognize that atheism is not a belief system in and of itself, so I would like to hear personal responses.

  • ATHEISTS: How did you cope after losing your faith?

I am curious about how any atheists who had previously been religious coped with life in general, and with the loss of belief in something that is so central to so many people's lives.

  • Were Mary and Joseph cousins?

I seem to recall reading a verse in Romans that suggested that Mary and Joseph were cousins because it says that for the Jewish people of the time were required to marry within their own tribe, and the tribes were all familial. I saw this verse on a web site once, but it has since been taken down.

This rule is originally given in Numbers, I believe, but is presented more specifically in Romans.

  • CHRISTIANS: Are these actual Bible verses?

I know of two quotes that I'm not sure if they are from they Bible, or simply elaborations on Biblical teachings. I seem to remember them being in the Old Testament.

"All wisdom is of the Lord" and "Why look to the stars if you can look to their maker?"

I've read them both, or something similar to them, somewhere, I just don't know where. Any help?

  • Would a quantum teleporter kill you?

If you had a device which could scan your body, dematerialize, and create an exact copy of you, do you still exist? Were you destroyed, and now an impostor exists in your place?

  • Who has ordered from ticketalbums.com? Any problems?

    http://www.ticketalbums.com/

They are a web site that sells albums that are designed to hold full-sized event tickets. I ordered a concert album from them, and have yet to receive any feedback about my order. I have just sent off my third e-mail to them. (The second one was undeliverable due to a full inbox, apparently.)

Has anyone else ever ordered from this site? If so, did you experience any problems with it?

  • So...Am I an agnostic now?

I really don't care if there is an afterlife or not. I have arguments for and against the existence of God, but neither side can prove anything, so I choose to align myself with either conclusion.

I don't think it's wrong to do things that don't hurt people. (ie, masturbation, sex before marriage, thinking about killing that ******* who just cut me off) I don't believe in absolute equality among people (this is biblical, look it up)--sure, we all have a basic, intrinsic worth, but that doesn't mean we're all the same. In fact, in the case of child molesters, that worth could even dip downwards into the negatives.

The final question of God's existence comes down to fifty/fifty. Yes or no. It's an absolute, and I like absolutes. Though, I hate math. Go figure. But, I'll rant a little more if you don't mind.

    1. I can't worship a God who would condemn someone to eternal hellfire. [If hell=death, I'm OK with that, so long as this life is satisfying, in all the best ways (family, friends, etc.).]

    2. Eternal hell is not justice, no matter how you slice it. I don't care how many children you've butchered, an unending, constant, eternal present of unparalleled and unimaginable spiritual, physical, emotional, and mental suffering is not a fit punishment. Let's go for 10000000000000^1000000 years, and call it good. Eventually, you'll be sorry. And if not, you have something fundamentally and essentially wrong with you...and who's fault is that?

    3. If a God that is willing to subject people to this does exist, I don't want to serve Him. I will not serve a God who bases his entire "benevolent" being around coercion.

    4. A just God would forgive me for not worshiping according to His prophets, and would only punish me temporarily if I did something really wrong.

Therefore, the question is posed again: Does God exist? Answer: Who cares? If the mean-guy God does exist, **** him. If the all-forgiving God does exist, then he'll forgive my mistakes and love me anyway. After all, I'm only human.

So, am I an agnostic now?

  • Objective opinion on the Eucharist?

Can someone direct me to an article or book which gives a purely objective, outside view on the Eucharist/Lord's Supper?

I would like to see a secular interpretation of the scripture involved, to see what a person who has no attachment to either the Catholic/Orthodox or Protestant points of view has to say on the subject.

Please keep your mockery to yourselves, but I welcome any and all reasonable responses.

  • Telus Mobility customers: A question about call display?

I am interested in getting a phone with Telus mobility, and the plan I am choosing does not include call display. Unfortunately, it costs an extra $15(!!!) for this feature. I am curious as to whether not including this feature will mean I won't see who is calling at all; see only who is already programmed into my phone; or see just a number but no name.

Anyone with any answers, please reply.

  • CATHOLICS: Peter is the rock?

Don't be offended, seriously. Everyone gets all touchy when I ask Catholics about their theology.

There are a million and a half scriptural indications that God (which means Jesus) is the Rock. Why is it that in the one case that Jesus is speaking to Peter about building the Church on "this Rock" we're meant to understand that Peter is the Rock, and not Christ?

I understand the translation between Aramaic and Greek, and I understand what Church tradition says about Peter being the Bishop of Rome and the first Pope. But this is one major hangup I have with Catholicism, and I really want to understand the beliefs of the Church.

Can someone explain to me why I should believe that Jesus(God) is not the Rock in this case? Use scriptural evidence please, I'm a Protestant, after all--sola scriptura and all that, you know.
