  • Men. Do you believe in the 'male menopause'?

Here is a quote from 'the Daily Mail' regarding the use of testosterone supplements to boost energy levels and flagging libido in men of a certain age.

'However, the use of HRT in men is controversial, with some doctors claiming that symptoms such as hot flushes, sweating, depression and loss of sex drive are just side-effects of being overweight, lazy and smoking and drinking too much.'

What are your views on this? Have any of you tried testosterone supplements and what effects have you experienced?

    Thanks

  • Is it safe to take Echinacea when pregnant?

I have done some research but there is nothing conclusive as to yes or no. I have a cold and don't like taking conventional medicines especially paracetamol. Any suggestions would be warmly welcomed! x

  • Smacking debate U.K. What about when children hit their parents? What rights do we have? How do we discipline?

I am the mother of a 13 year old girl who when she cannot get her own way becomes abusive. She smashes things, tries emotional blackmail, plays head games, screams and shouts and thumps, nips and kicks me (I am 6 months pregnant,by the way) I do not have the energy to cope with these outbursts and at one point had to slap her back to defend myself. I just cannot cope any more. I feel like sending her away to live with her father but I doubt that he would take her on. Everything I say seems to be kindling for an argument. Everything I do she criticizes in a really nasty way.

She seems to believe that the only way to get 'respect' is by being horrible to people. This seems to be the case with a lot of her peers. It seems that children now have the upper hand.Who is in control here? How are we supposed to discipline our kids? We are told what NOT to do all the time...no spanking leaving a red mark or punishment leading to 'mental abuse',but no alternative methods are being suggested.

(In case you are wondering,I never smacked her as a child so she hasn't learned this from me.)

We are not child psychologists,we learned form our own parents and they from theirs but now we are not allowed to use the same methods of punishment. I know the difference between abuse and punishment. My sisters and I used to get a smacked bottom for being naughty and it really didn't cause any harm.It didn't even really hurt that much,it was more the indignity of it which made the punishment effective. Now I am made to feel like an abuser because I slapped my child to defend myself.( and that is all it was, not a thump or a 'hit') It was a gut reaction. I feel horrible but what could I do? As far as this governments legislation goes,we parents are being criminalised. It is legally OK for our kids to hit us but we are not allowed to defend ourselves? (I am not talking toddlers here, I mean big kids) Its hardly surprising there is so much street violence, these kids are being allowed to get away with murder. They have been handed power while that of their parents is being undermined. Who is in control here?

Anyway. My daughter's behaviour his is really getting me down and I am worried about the effect this is having on my unborn baby. I have tried positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, but she just walks all over me. We argue every day.I am really at my wits end.

    Please help.
