  • Where does the confusion come from?

it seems that many here on Yahoo Answers are confusing the term 'Christian' with... Catholic... Baptist... Methodist... Mormon... or other groups or denominations.

Just as not all Christians are Catholic or Baptist or Methodist or Calvanist, etc., not all Catholics or Baptists or Methodists or Calvanists, etc. are Christians.

Christians are those who believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross as atonement for OUR sins, was buried & resurrected three days later.

The name Christian was first used as a deragotory term for those who chose to follow Jesus & His teachings. Later, it came to be known as those who are Born Again Believers; those who by believing in the death & resurrection have chosen to die to their old selves & be reborn [spiritually, not physically] in Christ.

Being Catholic, Baptist, Methodist, Calvanist, etc. is the way in which people choose to express their religious beliefs, believe is the correct form of worship, best interpretation of the Bible, etc.

  • Does anyone know the story behind Lee Strobel?

He's the author for a book I keep hearing about called the Case for Christ. If you've read the book, what did you think?

    Thanks.

  • ? for Atheists & you who seem to have the goal of putting down anyone who believes in God:?

    American Heritage Dictionary - a·the·ist (ā'thē-ĭst)

    n. One who disbelieves or denies the existence of God or gods.

Why do you who profess to be atheists even bother coming to the religion area, let alone asking or answering questions? If you truly didn't believe in God, wouldn't you try to 'educate' & persuade those of us who you feel to be misled instead of being hostile, denegrating, demeaning, etc.? If you truly didn't believe in God, wouldn't you be apathetic to what us 'stupid idiots' choose to believe?

  • Your thoughts on this quote. Please be objective & nice.?

"What good are reports? In a news account? Preselected at an editorial conference, digested & excreted by prejudice. Accounts you need seldom come from those who write the histories."

    P.S. I didn't make this one up.

  • Have you ever modified your opinions / beliefs on a provocative, hotly debated subject after reading answers?

    For example:

    1. Changed your religion

    2. Changed your mind regarding how man came to exist

    3. Changed your opinion on school vouchers

    4. Changed who you were going to vote for

    5. Bought a domestic vehicle instead of a foreign made

Have you ever decided to do more independent research on a provocative subject after having read answers?

    Thanks.

  • The THEORY of Evolution as a religion - Does it fit the criteria? Keep it polite & intelligent. Please.?

It seems to me that evolutionists are deluding themselves into believing themselves to be somehow smarter or better educated than anyone who chooses to believe in either Intelligent Design or Creationism theories. Quite of few of the die-hard evolutionists that I've talked with seem to feel that any system of religion diminshes them, but... Random House College Dictionary & Dictionary.com defines religion as - "a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe", "a deep convition of the validity of religious beliefs & practices", "a point or matter of ethics & conscience". Merriam Webster - "a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith". Encarta - "a set of strongly-held beliefs, values, and attitudes that somebody lives by" & "an object, practice, cause, or activity that somebody is completely devoted to or obsessed by". By these definitions, wouldn't the scientifically unproveable THEORY of evolution be a religion?
