Does this transmission swap make any sense?
I have a 1998 Pontiac firebird, and I m looking to swap out that wimpy 3.8l 6-cyl for an LS1. With that swap, I m wondering would it be workable to do a trans upgrade to a 6L80e?

2 AnswersCell Phones & Plans7 years agoSeeking Info on Dark Energy Theory...?
In an effort to save some time in searching, I was hoping someone here might have knowledge of specific research or theories of this topic. But first, some details.
I was watching the Science Channel's special called "Seeing Black Holes" the other day. At one point, several scientists were speaking on the subject of the sheer number of black holes that exist in the universe. Then Michio Kaku said something that started me thinking. He basically said that with the realization of the commonality of black holes in the universe, science has begun to understand how much black holes are a fundamental force that play an important role in shaping the universe.
What I started thinking was this. We realize that the singularity causes General Relativity and Quantum Theory to become irrational, and we also know that Black Holes consume normal matter. If we assume for a moment that our universe is, in fact, a "closed system", and also assume that the conservation of information is consistent (i.e. Leonard Susskind's work), could it be possible that the normal matter consumed by black holes is somehow converted (through a direct process akin to fission, or through an indirect process akin to the proton-proton chain process) into a proportional increase in dark energy which might help explain the apparent increase in the acceleration of the expansion of the universe?
I've said all that to ask this question. Is anyone aware of any theories or research that explore this possibility?
3 AnswersPhysics8 years agoSpace & the Universe?
A while back, I had an old application called "Space & the Universe".
This application had options for showing the location and configuration of stars and constellations as seen from any point on the earth at any time from thousands of years in the past, to thousands of years in the future.
My question is, does anyone know of a similar application to this application. "Space & the Universe" isn't compatible with any PC OS after Win98, which is why I am looking for a new one. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Why are you:
A) Religious
B) Spiritual
C) Agnostic
D) Atheist
E) Other
I am curious. With all of the fervent debate that flies around in R&S, it seems that many of you have very intense convictions. I am wondering if the participants here have truly examined why you believe as you do. Is your faith (or lack thereof) based on a sincere examination of your beliefs? Or have you simply adopted the beliefs of your culture/race/parents etc.

Firstly, let Me say that I am asking this question not for myself, but for anyone who may read this, and the answers that come as a result.
My girlfriend died a couple months ago. She passed away the day after her 42nd birthday. We had been together for 13 years. She had been ill for a long time, and the prospect of a recovery was none.
I found that I couldn't bring myself to attend her memorial service. There are many reasons, but the one that is relevant here, is that I knew I would be expected to speak. I had so many things I felt should be said that I couldn't do her justice in only a few moments. This started me thinking about what people would say of me when my time came. We all have a notion of ourselves, but how do others see us, truly?
So my question is, what do you think people would say about you when your time comes?

Question: Do you See?
Where the Road Leads...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The view from here is tainted,
Neither light nor wisdom dare approach.
The beginning, many years gone.
Reflection does not happen,
My eyes, confounded; Mind blurred.
Yet still moving onward.
No trial or tribunal convened,
No review.
All the while forging onward.
Does this bring me to a Place of Peace?
Is this My Reward?
Far from the place I have left behind.
Where this road leads,
Where the Journey... leads,
I follow.
Forgotten, Forgetting,
Believing all the while.
The Lament of the Fool.
For all the bluster,
This road is mine to travel.
Mine to Endure.
So I shall.
I shall continue to follow
Where the Road Leads.
3 AnswersPoetry1 decade agoASUS RoG Rampage (Extreme or Formula) Motherboard...?
OK, I do a little gaming, but nothing that should require or even suggest overclocking. But here's my thinking...
I'm aware of the upcoming X58 Chipset and Nehalem Processor Intel is working on, and I'm not even considering that in my situation until those finish what I like to call "Gamma testing" (first full year of consumer release).
My situation is this, I am looking for a motherboard using an Intel Core 2 quad that will accommodate the foreseeable future and allow me to make use of overclocking if I should be so inclined.
With that said, is considering buying the Rampage a bit of overkill? Should I be looking at a board of more modest proportions? I am partial to ASUS, but if there is any other make I should be looking at, please feel free to mention it.
(I mention the Extreme only because of its DDR3 capability, else I would go with the Formula).
Alot of people talk about how the electronic age and computers are destroying the fabric of socialization. Kids don't play outside because they're playing video games. People don't talk, they 'e-mail' and 'blog'. Even advertising is addressing this question as in a recent 'Applebee's' ad campaign.
My personal opinion is that the electronic age has opened up the world to communication between people that would otherwise never have contact with each other. I also feel that too much is being made about the importance of physical interaction simply out of a sense of nostalgia.
17 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoThe right to disagree...?
People talk about rights in this country at great lenght. I have come to realize that I take exception to the notion that everyone's rights are sovereign. And I do realize that there are times when the rights of the one, are outweighed by the rights of the whole. However, The right to disagree has been trampled upon at great lenght without so much as a whimper. Now I, as a Black Man in this society, have some perspective with regard to alternate points of view. I actually respect the right of 'certain members of society' to feel that I am 'less than an individual'.
Which brings me to my point. What is it about society that has brought about the notion that a persons right to disagree is only valid insofar as it doesn't conflict with the 'politically correct' view of the population at large? And also, why is it that a particular point of view is seen as 'politically correct' when it clearly does not reflect the views of the popular majority?
"If the wonder is gone when the truth is known, then there never was any wonder".
Any student of the philosophical arts should appreciate this quote. Wonder without reason is illusion. Many illusionists have enthralled audiences with 'slight-of-hand'. But what is it to be truly wonderous? Isn't truth, or rather the pursuit of it, the most wonderous thing of all?
