How to best prepare for Grand Canyon hike in 1 month?
I'll be doing a hike in the Grand Canyon in approximately one month. We'll be hiking in on a Saturday, and out on a Tuesday, as of now.
This will be my first time doing a hike of this intensity, but I have hiked quite a bit. I will be with a group of experience hikers, who have hiked in the Grand Canyon before.
What I need is a fitness plan to make sure that I can make it in and out of the Canyon on my own! I have access to a Rec Center as well as in house elliptical machines.
Currently, I'm not in the great shape, but not in bad shape either. I live on a college campus, and I don't have a car, and our buildings don't have reliable elevators, so I walk/bike everywhere, and use the stairs in all buildings. Calculated roughly, I walk up/down about 60 plus flights of stairs in a normal week.
So, if you don't mind, can I get your suggestions for a good exercise program? And don't forget we've got lots of snow and ice here, so outdoor workouts aren't always an option.
Thanks!
1 AnswerDiet & Fitness1 decade agoBest skin care/acne prevention skin regimen?
I'm looking for a good skin care product line or combination of products and regimen to improve my skin's overall appearance and health. I have moderate acne, and relatively normal skin, just a bit oily in my t-zone and on my chin. I have tried AcneFree and Neutrogena and had allergic reactions to both, and we think it was from the Salicylic acid content. I have also tried the Clean&Clear Advantage solution with minimal results some reaction. Since then, I have generally avoided 'acne' medications or regimens, using scrubs and Pond's cold cream to keep my face liveable.
What I'm looking for is a good regimen of products that will help my acne without harming my semi-sensitive skin.
Please help! I'd love to hear your experiences and suggestions!
3 AnswersMakeup1 decade agocostume ideas for very short hair?
I'm going to get my hair cut quite short the weekend before halloween. Look for elisha cuthberts short hair to see what i'm going for.
i'm a brunette and i'm gonna keep it that way, but any costumes that highlight the new short hair would be great.
i've already thought of tinkerbell or a flapper...
any help?
6 AnswersHalloween1 decade agowhat should i do to add traction?
I have knock off UGG boots from Costco, and they aren't especially new. They still work well, except they have absolutely lost all of their grip. I can't get traction on anything, and I've just moved to a place where I'll have ice in a month or so. I'm already gonna fall, so I'd like to prevent my fake UGG's from helping that situation.
I'm thinking of gluing something to the soles... but I don't know.

19 AnswersWeddings1 decade agois he trying to make up for the past?
a couple of days ago, a guy who i used to like, and hung around with at my church started talking to me again on facebook. We were just talking, we've known each other for a long time, so it makes for comfortable conversation. He flirted a little, 'inviting' me with a :P , and saying we can go on a 'clothing-optional' date. This is nothing new to me, I'm used to his flirtatiousness, its his personality.
We kept talking, and he said we should hang out, and I said sure, that would be fine. We decided on a day, and that we would catch a movie and maybe get some ice cream.
Later that night, he texts me and asks how 'dinner, walk in the country club, movie on the golf course, & ice cream' sounds. Suddenly its become like an actual date, and I'm not sure what his intentions are towards me.
On top of all of this, I have a boyfriend of 2 years, so I feel like he's trying to steal me away from my bf. My boyfriend is alright with me going with him because he trusts me, but I just wonder what he's up to.
I did like this guy in the past, he's handsome and charming, but he does have his faults. When I liked him he didn't seem interested in me, but now I wonder if he likes me and is trying to make up for lost time.
Any ideas? I know that's a lot of info, but I felt like it was nessecary.

2 AnswersOther - Careers & Employment1 decade agoadding flavor to melted chocolate chips?
hello there!
i'm making some neat little gifts, and one of them is chocolate coffee spoons; simple plastic spoons dipped in chocolate to be stirred into your coffee for a chocolate-y flavor.
however, i was thinking that it would be neat to make them different flavors: mint chocolate, chocolate almond or chocolate orange.
would it change anything to just add flavoring or extract to the chocolate when it is melted and stir it real well?
I don't want to ruin it. :)
thanks!

3 AnswersTeaching1 decade agomakeup for prom; mermaid dress?
My prom is next weekend, and I already have my dress shoes and jewelry. I'm thinking my makeup will be very fresh, but I have very limited experience with eyeshadow and such.
Here is my dress:
http://www.windsorstore.com/shop_detail.aspx?id=69...
I'd like my makeup to go along with the mermaid theme of the dress. I'm wearing silver shoes, and probably carrying a silver clutch.
My earrings are rhinestone, and look like tear drops. I couldn't find a photo online of the necklace I bought, but this is similar:

just the necklace, not the earrings.
I have green eyes and relatively pale skin.
Suggestions?

my hair is just about shoulder length, and i have some layers.
style-wise, i don't want a total updo, but some of it up would be okay. its mostly straight.

11 AnswersHair1 decade agocareer choices? (teaching)?
Currently, I'm in the second semester of my senior year of high school. Our school requires us to do a Senior Exit Project, that's required for graduation. The general idea is that you research the career you think you want to go into. I choose secondary education, thinking of teaching upper level high school english. However, now, with the majority of the project done, I'm not sure whether or not I want to be a teacher! I'm very good in english, and not so great in math, and I just don't know what to do. I know teaching makes a massive impact on the world, but I'd like to make a bigger splash than helping a student pass their junior english class. (no offense meant to teachers in any way!) So, if you've actually read all of this, I'm thanking you already. What should I do? I've already accepted college admission as well. Help!

2 AnswersMathematics1 decade ago18th birthday party ideas?
I'm turning 18 in about a month, and i'm in the usa, so no parties with drinking, and i'm a good kid, so no stripclubs or anything else like that.
i've had pool parties like my whole life, but we moved and i don't have a pool. i'd be cool with just a fun theme that we could pool off in my backyard or something. :)
and... i'm really all about having fun with my friends, and i'm the first to turn 18, so i want my party to rock. i'll have family there too, so it needs to be appropriate.
i just want it to be laugh yourself to death, best time of your life, greatest party ever, remember till your 43, kind of party. :)

4 AnswersFriends1 decade agowe're getting promise rings...but?
My boyfriend (of almost a year) and I have decided to get promise rings. We're both almost 18, and went to church together for 2 years, until my family left (crappy!), and we now go to the same school. We are completely in love, and no, its not sissy high school love either. :D We're both quite aware that we might break up and never see eachother again, but at this point, we want to try to make it. However, we don't want these promise rings to be 'pre-engagement' rings.
Any advice; like what we should promise, ring ideas... etc. :D
thanks.
