dog and husband problems?
i've never had my dog act this way and am pretty puzzled:
prior to getting married a few months ago, my dog (wendell) and my then fiance (matt) got along fine. when matt came over to visit at my parents house wendell licked him all over and brought him toys to play with. my fiance would help me feed, walk and generally take care of my dog and this was no problem for either of them.
however shortly after moving in together, my dog started acting differently towards my husband. matt still feeds, walks, bathes, and plays with him. he lets my dog have the majority of his side of the bed at night. he uses that squeaky, high pitched voice that dogs love.
half the time, my dog reacts positively to all these things. the other half, seemingly at random, wendell will roll on to his back, whine like he's having the hell beat out of him and pee on himself. my husband usually isn't even touching him when this happens. wendell has never done this before, except rolling on his back when he's in trouble.
we've been living in our apartment for about three months now and wendell seems to have settled in completely, with the exception of this.
i've had wendell for about five years and i found him when he was around a year old, so i dont know anything about his life before i found him. i dont think he's afraid of men because he doesn't do this to my dad or uncle and just started with my husband.
my husband isn't a dog person, so he had to learn how to live with a spastic jack russell terrior, but he does love wendell. this is also his first dog. we live in a two bedroom apt with my dog and his cat. the dog and cat generally ignore each other, but we make sure they get equal attention.
if there is anything you can suggest about helping wendell trust my husband more or even about where this is coming from, we would greatly appreciate it.
9 AnswersDogs1 decade agoCalcium Build Up On Tank Lights?
i need a good way to remove calcium spots and buildup (the white spots) on the outside of my tank. i have no problem with it on the filters, that's easier to get off, but the drips on the hood and the buildup on the back of the lights will not come off.
i've tried windex on the parts i know will not come in contact with the water and i've tried just scrubbing with sponges, but as soon as it dries the white spots are back.
if anyone has a good way to clean these off i'd like to know. it just takes away from the look of the tank with all the buildup on it.

when you post a question how do you get to pick the best answer yourself and rate it instead of it being voted on? i cant find where this is an option. do you have to be a certain level to pick the best answer to your question?
4 AnswersYahoo Answers1 decade agopH in my tank is stuck at 6.5?
i have a tropical community tank, 60 gals. i've had the tank for 8 months but when i set it up i used established water from my other tank. the water and the filtration is established but recently i've been having a problem with pH.
nothing else is wrong with my tank and i do regular water changes. the hardness, clarity, ammonia, nitrites and nitrates are all on normal levels but the pH has been stuck between 6.2 and 6.5 and i need it around 7.0 to 7.2 for the fish i have.
i have tried all kinds of pH buffers from liquids to powders to the fizzy tabs and nothing even budges it. i've even tried doubling the amount the directions say, but nothing.
i've heard of using baking soda as a buffer but i dont know how much or if this is safe so i dont really want to try it without more info.
if anyone has advice or has tried baking soda i'd appreciate it.
5 AnswersFish1 decade agofish tank cloudy as no other?
i've had a 55 gal fish tank for about 8 months now. i've had fish tanks in general all my life. recently my husband and i have been have mega proplems with this one. the tank was cycled properly and i do routine water changes every week and a half.
just this week however my pH took a huge nose dive. from around 7.0 to 6.2. fish are definatly suffering from it so i went to my lfs and talked to the person who i've gotten really good advice from before. she told me to use a pH buffer and after a few days of that there was no change. it was actually getting alittle worse. down to 6.0.
so we went back and talked to her agian and this time she said to do 50% change then add pH buffer. usally i'm really hesitant to do such a big change because it brings bad results but this time i tried. we did the change put in all nessecary chemicals and that was that.
when we woke up this morning we couldnt see throught the water it was cloudy.i couldnt even see the fish. it looked almost solid. i am continuing to have pH problems, not quite as severe and the ammonia has jumped from almost none to pretty bad.
i've never had a problem like this before so i'm really worried. i have three filters in the tank, all adding up to about 60 gals of filtration. i've had filtration problems recently so maybe its related?
any help would be great
8 AnswersFish1 decade agowhite fuzzies?
i was cleaning my show tank (40 gal) yesterday and noticed this little white stuff everwhere. its on the plants (real and fake) gravel, filters, decorations. the only thing it isnt on is the glass and the fish (thankfully). i did a really thorough cleaning and got every speck off that i could. then this morning its all back! everywhere, just like last time.
the stuff looks like little cotton balls just floating around the tank. i have no idea where it came from, it wasnt there one day then was there the next. i just cant get rid of it and no idea what the stuff is.
any help would be great. thanks!
7 AnswersFish1 decade agolittle white worms on tank glass?
ok, so when i fed my fish this morning i noticed these little white worm like things on the glass of my fry tank. they arent in the water, but just above the water line on the inside of the tank and look alot like mosquito larvae. the only thing different is they arent in the water at all and they dont move, they just sit there.
as soon as i saw them i wiped them all out with a paper towel and checked for more, but i dont see any on my other tanks.
the fry tank is pretty plain and the only thing in it other than the gravel is two live plants that i grew from bulbs. could the worms have come off of the plants? i've never seen anything like them before and dont know if they are bad for my fish or not. im assuming they are so i got rid of all of them.
should i also treat with a parasite medicine, if thats what these things are? any help would be appreciated.
