Are the models in physics that work without the 2nd law of thermodynamics?
How do different models of physics (classical mechanics, newtonian physics, quantum physics etc) work with the 2nd law of thermodynamics? Are there models that work fine without it? Are there models that depend on it (i.e. that wouldn't make sense without the 2nd law)?
2 AnswersPhysics10 years agoOut of all religious humans that ever lived, what portion have believed in the Christian God?
I'm interested in both the creationist/intelligent design view (in which the world is six thousand years old), and the evolution/science view (where behaviorally modern humans have been around for fifty thousand years). Looking for a number like x% of all religious humans that have existed have believed in the Christian God (and I'm also interested in hearing how you got to that number).
2 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoMy company has 60 employees. I'm in charge of the IT department. What's my proper title?
There's a sales department, billing & admin, and an IT department. I'm in charge of all the hiring, planning etc & set salaries for the IT department (8 people). We manage & build websites as well as develop and oversee our own information systems. I oversee an advertising spending budget of a few million a year. What's my proper title here? I'm writing my resume and I'm trying to go for CMO/ VP of Marketing positions at bigger companies who have a strong focus on online.

5 AnswersLanguages1 decade agoCompany for time shares around Southern California?
I live in Los Angeles, and I'm looking for a time share deal that I can use in multiple locations (I know some use a point/credit system that you can redeem) - places like Baja, Big Bear, Palm Springs etc. Does anyone know of anything good or a good website that lets you compare? Googling turns up spammy results, hard to tell if it's quality or not
2 AnswersLos Angeles1 decade agoIs this logic sound? Are there any problems with either the premise or conclusion?
I. Income equality correlates with good
II. A measure of income equality is a measure of good
-->
III. Income equality is good.
In a debate with someone who is really putting up a struggle. (I) has already been agreed upon. (II) is an assumed premise. Are there any problems with (II) or (III)? Want to make sure there there aren't any holes he can slink through :P
4 AnswersPhilosophy1 decade agoI like fight club, fear and loathing, 1984, a clock work orange - what other books would I like?
I feel like there's some kind of theme there, are there more other books like these that I should know about? I've read some of Chuck Palahniuk's stuff but wasn't really all that into it, but if you have a tip for anything else I might like I'd appreciate it!
3 AnswersBooks & Authors1 decade agoIs this a logical fallacy: A claims his position is true because B can't offer a better hypothesis?
Is there a name for this logical fallacy? Been checking a list and I can't find it but it would seem like there should be.
A puts forth a hypothesis
B disagrees with the reasoning behind it
A says that unless B can offer an alternate hypothesis (instead of just disagreeing with A) then B's criticism is invalid or less valid

2 AnswersPDAs & Handhelds1 decade agoHow come in footage from space you can't see any stars except for the sun?
When I see footage from spacewalks and launches etc everything always looks pitch black except for the earth and sun. Since the sky is full of stars at night, and we have the atmosphere between us and the stars, I would think that once you get out in to orbit you'd be able to see the stars even better - so instead of pitch black there would be billions of stars in every direction. This doesn't seem to be the case though, as I've never seen regular footage (i.e. from a video camera and not a telescope) from space that shows anywhere near as many stars as we can see from earth on a clear night. What gives? Is it really that pitch black when you're out in space, and if so, how come we can see a sky full of bright stars from earth and nothing from space?
13 AnswersAstronomy & Space1 decade agoHow do I change batteries in JVC NC250 noise cancellation headphones?
Silly question, but I threw out the instruction manual, and I can't for the life of me find where the battery is supposed to go. There is a groove on the right headphone on the bottom, but I've tried pushing on it etc and nothing happens and I don't want to break it.
2 AnswersOther - Electronics1 decade agoHow do I send gifts on facebook now?
I used to send gifts all the time, but they keep changing it and now I can't figure out how to send them anymore. If I click on "gifts" it just takes me to a list of gifts I've received and gifts I've sent but nowhere do I see the option to buy gifts? I remember they did some recent changes to how gifts work, but they don't seem very easy to find....

2 AnswersMartial Arts1 decade agoThose who have had the Apple Ipad for a few months now, do you still use it?
I got it on launch date and the first few weeks I loved it and thought it would pretty much replace my laptop. But then as time went on I used it less and less, and now I hardly use it at all. I've spoken to other people who say the same thing - it's like a luxury toy that you get bored with after a while. Have other Ipad users had the same experience? For me, say if it broke down and Apple somehow reimbursed me the cost, I'm not sure I would buy it again...I definitely wouldn't miss it for anything crucial

Do a search for "how to break your wrist" on Google and you'll find tons of websites and forums discussing the best way to do it. It seems to be mainly young girls that want to do it, but why?? Is it to get time off at school? Or something else?
7 AnswersWomen's Health1 decade agoAny good recently released historical city building sims?
So I've been reading a lot of history the past year, and I remember playing a game called Caesar many years ago and loving it - the concept is building an ancient Roman city and maintain order, taxes, politics etc. I know there's been new released int he series since, but I think the latest is still from 2006 or something. Are there any good newer historical city building/management sims? It doesn't matter from what epoch - though I like Rome - but I'm interested in any historical city building game as long as it's good. Any recommendations?
1 AnswerPC1 decade agoI know nothing about whiskey - how do I order something of quality without looking like a fool/douche?
Say I want to sip on some whiskey and I'm at a regular bar with a standard selection, what do I order? Do I ask them what they have? I tried an irish whiskey I really liked a while back, and I figured I'd try just sipping on that next time, but I don't want to sound like Mikey from Swingers when I order.
11 AnswersBeer, Wine & Spirits1 decade agoCredit score advisor for people with good credit who wish to improve more?
My credit score is around 700. I have one credit card that I pay off everything at the end of every month (i.e. I never carry a balance)and that's it. No loans, no debt nothing. Yet my credit score keeps jumping around a lot with each report; it was 727 in july last year, 678 in Oct, 755 this January, and now 708. And I've done nothing besides dutifully paying my bills and credit card each month during this time. I have signed up for a credit monitoring service from Bank of America, but it makes no sense. Right now, it projects that if I keep making all my minimum payments for the next year my credit score will decrease by 3. Wtf? I moved here from Europe and credit score is incredibly difficult for me to grasp, yet it's extremely important. Each time I get my credit report it's like flipping a coin if it goes up and down, and all I do is pay everything each month.
So is there any service that can explain and advice how it all works and what I can do to keep improving it? Most services are geared towards repairing bad credit, but mine is OK, I just want to know what I can do in the long term to improve it. Just paying everything on time doesn't seem to do it since my credit is currently worse than it was a year ago, and it's predicted to keep going down??
I asked at bank of america, but they were admittedly not sure and just gave general advice from personal experience. Is there someone I can talk to that can take the voodoo and wives' tales out of the the credit score and explain what is going on? I have no problems handling my financial obligations, so I just want to know how I can get the best credit I can have.
4 AnswersCredit1 decade agoWhat philosophy do these principles most fit in with?
I read a short story a while ago (can't remember the name) where the main character was following certain principle towards fulfillment. I can't remember exactly, but it went something like:
better to be hungry than full
better to be tired than rested
better to be dissatisfied than satisfied
better to be have to little time than enough
better to be frustrated than happy
I was wondering if this is from an actual philosophy (or if there is one that matches this closely)?
Thanks
