  • Fondant icing & shortening ?

Can anyone give me a recipe for 'roll out fondant icing', in the US fondant icing is made using marsh mallows, does anyone know why or if this is better? And why don't we in the UK?

Also what is shortening (US again!) I know it is a solid fat but is our equivalent in the UK butter margarine or lard !

No guesses please I would like answers from those that know !!!!

    Thanks in advance

  • You or your child??

Most people would say that they would give their life for their child, and yet as I have said before, it would be a little harder to promise this for your parents, all part of Nature and the continuing life pattern I suppose. But what would you do in the purely hypothetical senario where you did have to give your life for your child but this would mean leaving another child without you?

Would you choose to let both children live without you or let one child go ?

  • City or country life?

  • What to do?

I recently ordered a silver psp for my son from what I though was a uk website, as it was co.uk. This turned out to be from the US. The item arrived and wasn't silver but black, they enclosed a letter asking me to accept this as it was a good price. I do not wish to accept it but am now stuck as they wont answer e mails, if I return the item it will cost £60 ! fed ex yet how else to get my money back ? I assume as it was their fault sending the wrong item they should arrange for collection.

    Any thoughts?

    use of K for C

    dat for that !

    does this annoy anyone else?

  • Hate Day ??

There are so many 'celebration' days like valentines day, mothers & fathers days, but how about a hate day - where you could send a message anonymously to someone you didn't like eg boss or nosey neighbour, telling them what you really thought of them. It'd be a good way of knowing if many people didnt like you enough to send one to you! What do you think and who would you send one to?

  • Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

I'm looking for either a poem or quote that I heard once, about teaching children values in life, it has in it something like this:

If you want your child to be ........., show him ..........

    values like patience, empathy etc.,

If anyone knows of it I'd be grateful if you'd let me know the details please,

  • How can I get my husband to change his mind over getting a dog?

My son would love a dog, and I suggested getting a rescue greyhound, but my hubby will not entertain it. He wouldnt see any harm come to an animal but says he just dosent want one in the house. (Germs, mess, smells etc.,)

I can see where he's coming from after working hard for nice things in our house and generally he'd give our son the world, so he must feel quite strongly!

But I think its important for kids to feel responsible for something and learn all about life.. and death
