  • YAMAHA 40hp 2 stroke overheating and stopping?

I bought an 18ft cruiser with an older 40hp yamaha engine with pull start the previous owner installed new plugs, the engine looked clean and cared for,it started first/second pull, the tank is full, visually everything looks fine.

I took it out yesterday into the river Erne and started first full,i went out maybe a 100 metres and the boat started slowing and stalled,a red light came on on the right side of the pull cord,i left it off for 5 Min's trying to figure it out and then restarted to try and make shore, the engine started and took me around and 20/30 metres before stalling again, again the boat started to drift so 2/3 minutes later i restarted on 3rd pull and just about made the final 30 mitres to the jetty, the forward momentum took me within hooking distance.

I contacted a marine mechanic who took her to his yard, another boater said it might be the induction blocked,it may have been blocked when i got the boat

ANY IDEAS APPRECIATED,as i intend to keep boating and need to learn some basic problems.

  • my diesel 206hdi has accidently been filled with green diesel will this damage the pump system in any way?

it will be a chore to empty it and could i dilute it with regular diesel to lessen any harmful effects, also i have been adding a pint/500ml engine oil to a tankful of diesel on advice of a friend who says that it will provide extra beneficial lubrication to the system is this a wise move. Any advice appreciated as i am afraid to drive until the green diesel issue is sorted

ALSO could it be the water pump and how would i check that?. Thanking you for any help,Sean
