How should I deodorize and treat these antique wooden fruit crates?
I purchased some antique fruit crates that I plan on turning into shelves, but there are a few treatment questions before I'm able to do that:
1. I want to ensure that there isn't bad splintering, because these shelves will hold yarn. But I also want to maintain the color and details of the old wood, so I want to sand as minimally as possible. Will a beeswax or oil treatment be effective in getting the desired effect?
2. The crates still smell like old apples. What's the best way to clean and deodorize the wood?
Please see this link for a picture of the crates: https://www.instagram.com/p/BP0AU1jADRn/
Thank you!
1 AnswerDecorating & Remodeling4 years agoWill an ultra-bulky stockinette stitch still curl?
I m planning on knitting with four strands of super-bulky (6) yarn held together on size 50 needles. Will stockinette in a garment this thick still curl, or will it be heavy enough that I don t need to add a border or anything? Thanks!
2 AnswersHobbies & Crafts5 years agoIs the phrase "SOS" protected by copyright or trademark for business names?
If I want to have the phrase "SOS" in the name of my Etsy shop--for example, SOS Cake Factory (this is an example, as I have no cake skills or knowledge)--would I be in danger of legal action by anyone? Thank you!
2 AnswersLaw & Ethics5 years agoKnitting help--3 stitch I-cord and 2 stitch purl ditch?
I'm knitting a scarf pattern that reads as follows: "Every row begins and ends with a 3 st I-cord followed by a 2 st purl ditch." How do you incorporate an I-cord into the ends of a flat piece like a scarf? The book doesn't really explain it. Thank you!
1 AnswerHobbies & Crafts6 years agoWhy do my monitors display different colors and brightness?
I have two of the same monitor. They're both connected by DVI cable to the same graphics card on my computer, and they're using the same settings. But the colors are slightly (though noticeably) less vibrant and bright on one monitor than they are on the other. The only difference I can think of is that one of the VGA cables is older than the other. Could that be making the difference?
1 AnswerMonitors6 years agoAn audio driver was downloaded and now nothing will play.?
I downloaded the pavtube media converter and, at some point during installation, it installed some sort of audio driver before I could stop it. I immediately uninstalled and removed any pavtube-associated files from my computer, but now it won't play any audio. My speakers are functioning normally. I tried installing audio drivers but it said that everything was up to date.

1 AnswerOther - Internet8 years agoCan someone translate this Japanese for me?
I've been having correspondence with a pal of mine from Japan, but I'm having a bit of trouble understanding what she last sent me? This is what it says:
グリーの最初の方見逃しちゃったから
From what I can understand, it says "I overlooked the beginning of Glee (we've been talking about the TV show a bit)" but I just wanted to confirm, or to see if I'm off, because it confused me a bit. Thanks!
4 AnswersLanguages9 years agoAre there any disadvantages to gaming computers?
Specifically, I'm interested in buying a gaming-oriented laptop. However, it also needs to be useful for school and such -- which I figured wouldn't be a problem, seeing as how they generally have superior processing power and such. My only question is whether there are any particular disadvantages with gaming computers that aren't found in other computers, besides a tendency to be more expensive. Thanks!
4 AnswersOther - Computers9 years agoWhat are the answers to: (i + 4)^2 and: (3 + i)^2 ?
I'm doing tutoring for an ACT prep course, and there is literally one question that I can't figure out. It asks for the result of the squaring the quantity (i + 4). I would think that the answer is 8i + 15, but the choices given are:
A: 4i
B: 16i
C: 15 + 18i
D: i + 16
E: 17 - 18i
I had a similar problem with another question, (3 + i)^2. I would have thought the answer was: 8 + 6i, but the answer given is: 8 - 6i
Any help?
5 AnswersMathematics9 years agoHelp with character research -- chronic illnesses?
Recently, I've run into a bit of a snag in researching a character of mine. I don't have a strong medical background, and even trying to figure out how to search for such a thing has left me a little stumped. I'm trying to find illnesses that might leave someone fairly young bonded to a hospital for quite some time -- a reason for someone near the beginning of adolescence to have basically grown up in/at the hospital. I've looked into osteosarcoma, but I'd like some more options and I'm having trouble finding them. Any advice?

1 AnswerLanguages10 years agoHow exactly is illiteracy defined?
Is it defined as not being able to read or write in any language, or an inability to read or write in the official language of the country in which the illiterate person resides? I was just curious about how it was defined in America, since there technically isn't an official language, as far as I'm aware. Thanks!
2 AnswersOther - Society & Culture10 years agoWhy are people willing to dismiss human rights so easily?
I see over and over again that people are willing to vote for candidates that are misogynistic, or homophobic, or transphobic, or racist, or classist, etc. etc. because they claim that, while those things are wrong, their other policies are spot-on. Why are people okay with voting down equality for the sake of other platform issues? When did equality for everyone stop being the most important issue out there?
9 AnswersPolitics10 years agoWhat does sexual attraction feel like?
I'm asexual, so I don't experience sexual attraction. However, I'm sort of curious -- just what exactly does it feel like. I mean, it's easy enough to say, "Well, it means you're physically interested in them," but, you know...what's THAT like? 8'D But yeah, I know it's probably not the easiest thing to describe, but I figured it might be interesting to see some other people's perspectives on the issue. Thanks!
3 AnswersSingles & Dating10 years agoPhysics question -- velocity of center of mass?
I really do hate doing this, but I really, really need some help with my physics homework. My teacher isn't the best at explaining and the online notes he provides aren't worth much. This is the question I have:
Body A of mass 4 kg is moving in the +x-direction with a speed of 13 m/s. Body B of mass 4 kg is moving in the -y-direction with a speed of 8 m/s. What are the x- and y-components of the velocity of the center of mass of the two bodies?
How am I supposed to find that center of mass between two moving bodies, since position is a factor of the equation? I really don't know where to start, so if you could walk me through this problem, I'd appreciate it a lot!
1 AnswerHomework Help10 years agoIsn't everyone in the world technically agnostic?
There's not really a way to prove God's existence, nor is there a way to disprove it. Believing or not believing is one thing, but no one can know, right? So why isn't every religious belief system defined as agnostic?

2 AnswersVideo & Online Games10 years agoC++ -- bubble sort not working?
Okay, so the assignment is to have a list of numbers input by the user. The user first inputs the number of values in the list, then the list values. After that, the list is sorted in ascending order and printed. I've made this code that I think should work, but it doesn't for some reason. Does anyone have any insight? We're only allowed to use while and do-while statements.
#include<iostream>
#include<vector>
using namespace std;
int main()
{
unsigned int n;
int temp;
cout << "Indicate the number of values you'll be entering: ";
cin >> n; //type an integer for the total number of values in list
vector<int> list(n);
unsigned int p = 0;
while (p < n)
{
int x;
cout << "Enter integers for the list: ";
cin >> x; //the actual values for the sorted list
list.push_back(x);
p++;
}
unsigned int iteration = 1;
while (iteration < n)
{
while (p < n - iteration)
{
if (list.at(p) > list.at(p + 1))
{
temp = list.at(p);
list.at(p) = list.at(p + 1);
list.at(p + 1) = temp;
}
p++;
}
iteration++;
}
while (p < list.size()) //until the last position is displayed
{
cout << list.at(p) << "\n";
p++;
}
system("pause");
}
