  • What's a good social media one-stop app?

I've recently taken the social media plunge, and so now I have accounts on facebook, twitter, LinkedIn, and the like. I also blog a bit and use WordPress for that. Additionally, I have several RSS feeds I follow (currently via Google Reader/iGoogle), and I often blog about some of the information I pull out of my RSS aggregator. It's all a lot of fun, and I'm enjoying it, however, my head's starting to spin trying to keep track of everything.

I would LOVE it if I could take all of that information (and the ability to send/post information) and put it all in one place so that I'm not trying to juggle several different windows all the time. Is there a program out there (Windows platform) that will do all that? Bonus points if it has both a desktop and a web option so it can be accessed from any computer, anywhere. TweetDeck comes pretty close. It has all of the social media integration I'm looking for, plus the ability to post to WordPress via its Twitter API. However, it does not have RSS support (yet). Are there any alternatives out there that have combined social media, blogging, and RSS aggregation functionalities?

  • HP iPaq hx2190b won't turn on - what to do?

I have an HP iPaq hx2190b. Charged up to 100% battery power, I can turn it off using the power button, but then cannot turn it back on using the power button. If I want the unit on, I have to connect it to the syncing cradle. Any idea what's going on here and how I can convince it to respond to use of the power button?

  • Question about Jewish theology?

I read a question this morning that turned out to be more of a tirade against Messianic Judaism than an actual question. I'm not familiar with the details of Jewish theology, but perhaps some of the knowledgable Jews on this site can clear up a point of confusion for me.

The tirade very clearly stated that it's impossible to accept Christ and still be a Jew. Why is this the case? Does Jewish theology object to *anyone* who claims to be the Messiah, or is it specific to Jesus of Nazareth? I always thought Jews were waiting for the Messiah, but what happens when he gets here? Is it possible for observant Jews to ever embrace a Messiah? Is Judaism meant to endure whether or not the Messiah arrives, or is it a religion of transition that will not have a purpose after the arrival of the Messiah?

Thanks in advance for helping me to better understand this aspect of Judaism.

  • What's the best way to get into science teaching?

I'm a research chemist with an MS in organic chemistry, about 2 yrs out of grad school (where I did have some teaching experience). I'm also getting married next year, and the possibility exists that we will end up in an area without much in the way of employment for researchers. One alternative I'm interested in is teaching chemistry, either at the high school or junior/community college level. This question is complicated by the fact that we won't know what state we're going to live in until my fiance has finished his postdoc and landed a full-time position. But that said, what am I likely to need to do in order to transition from researcher to teacher? Will I need to get a teaching degree in advance? What about certification? Are there jobs for science teachers right now? I'd much appreciate a general overview of what exactly I might be getting myself into.

  • Non-Muslim women: Would you wear a headscarf...?

Like many Western women, I've always believed that the Muslim hijab is nothing more than a symbol of oppression of women. To be fair, though, I decided to do a little research and was surprised by what I found.

In some cultures, veiling women is an oppressive part of tribalism, and that I do not agree with. However, Muslim women living in the West apparently often choose the hijab for religious reasons. They wear it as a sign of modesty before God and in an effort to avoid being seen as sex objects by men. However, that very obvious sign of Muslim faith has led to a lot of undeserved harrassment of Muslim women, particularly by Westerners who wrongly accuse them of terrorism.

So, particularly women of Christian or Jewish faiths, both of which have traditions of headcovering for women, would you be willing to wear a headscarf as a sign of solidarity with Muslim women who suffer ill-treatment for their faith?

I don't know if I would, but I'd like to know what you think.

  • Can anyone recommend a good string bag pattern?

I'd like to make some eco-friendly string bags to use in lieu of plastic grocery bags when I shop. I have some sugar 'n' cream yarn (cotton worsted) to use for this project. I knit and crochet, so either sort of pattern would be fine. I'm looking for something that doesn't take forever to make, has a moderate capacity, and is strong enough to hold a half gallon of milk or some canned goods. Patterns can be off the web, of your own devising, or recommending a book with a good pattern would be fine too. Thanks for your help!

  • What's the best shelf-size stereo?

I'm looking for a good shelf stereo unit, preferably in the under-$150 price range. Required characteristics: CD player (obviously), good bass sound, aux input or some other means of hooking up an iPod, AM/FM receiver.

That in mind, what are your favorite units, and what do you think would get me the most bang for my buck? Thanks!
