  • Pogram versus Ethnic Cleansing?

As a distant ancestor of the Slavic warlord 'Pog', who, like his more famous contemporary Vlad the Impaler, butchered considerably large numbers of locals, I find myself wondering when did the term Pogram go out of fashion.

During the 1970s you could hardly read an article on Pol Pot without seeing the word. Nowadays its ethnic cleansing this, ethnic cleansing that. Why don't we stick with the correct word, and not invent new phrases for no good reason.

  • Medals for innocent deaths?

Yesterday, the US General in charge of NATO Forces in Afghanistan went on TV and apologised for the fact that NATO troops had killed a number of innocent civillians in a misinformed and misdirected attack. Later the same day, he was awarded a medal for services to the puppet govrenment in Kabul (the rest of the country under Taleban or Drug Cartel control). Not attacking the USA, nor that particular General, but don't people feel this was not really a great moment for diplomacy, nor is this likely to help in 'winning the battle for hearts and minds' in Afghanistan. Congratulations for the General standing up, acknowledging the error and apologising, but couldn't the medal award ceremony have been put back by a couple of weeks?

  • Terry Lloyd & the US army?

Now that the coroners inquest into the death of the ITN news reporter has found that he was illegally killed by US Army troops, will George W send the troops for trial in Britain, or are we some unstable country with backward, unethical courts? If the US refuse to send those responsible for murdering UK citizens for trial, should we immediately remove our troops from US warzones?

  • America English?

Why do Americans claim to speak/write English when they invent words, mis-spell existing words, and abuse punctuation. Can't we come up with a new name for their language?
