  • Disciplining a Down Syndrome Toddler?

My daughter is 2 and a half, and has Down Syndrome. She is very loving, and although I'm positive she never means to hurt anyone, she tends to bite people. She does it when she's happy and can't seem to understand that she's hurting anyone because she can't use language yet.

I obviously can't spank her because she wouldn't understand why she was being hurt, and when I try timeouts, I get the impression she doesn't even notice a difference. She also doesn't seem to react much to a stern voice or expression, so I'm really lost.

I can't let her hurt others but what is an appropriate "punishment" for a child who can't understand the crime? Any advice or opinions are welcome.

  • Which of these should I say?

Long story short, a mutual (ex) friend on facebook is a scary sociopath. She physically attacked her entire family because her sister asked if her tv could be returned. She manipulates and harms everyone around her. She's personally screwed me over. I've been avoiding her and trying not to make her angry, because of our mutual friends and the fact that she scares me.

She posted this manipulative message on my facebook wall: "So, I miss you. Even though I don't think you miss me." I want her to get the idea that I don't want her manipulating me anymore, but I don't want her to actually come after me. Which of these should I say?

    A) "ok."

    B) "I see."

    C) "oh."

    D) "and?"

    E) (write your own.)

  • True or false: A friend who is only there for you when they feel like isn't a friend?

When you have a huge crisis and you call a friend for support, but they tell you they are planning on washing their hair instead, are they really a friend?

  • How would you handle this INSANE pathological liar?

My bf of 5 years has very few friends, so when he met a friend (I'll call her Rain) I was really happy. But this girl is sick. Literally. I hung out with her ONE time and here are just of few of the things she said '

"I ran the fastest training course in marine history and they desperately want me to join." (the girl is a 98 pound asthmatic).

"My pet dog was abused before I got him. They cut his tongue in half to save money on food and shacked each of his four legs. They came back and tried to take him away from me."

"I almost died...." There were 3 of these stories, ranging from headaches to fever.

On top of that, she's hurt my bf with her lies (she canceled big plans at the last second saying she had work, then spent the night with a mutual friend instead, who invited us over the next day with her still there. She didn't apologize or try to explain). She's even posted on her facebook that her best friend just died, but wouldn't tell anyone who it supposedly was.

I tried talking to him about it, but he doesn't want to see it. He gets very depressed and says he "doesn't like to think about people being like that." He refuses to talk about it. And I don't want to take away one of the only friends he has, but I think she's trouble, and I HATE having to be near her. What do I DO?

  • Pet rats and marijuana?

I've recently obtained a medical marijuana license to help me with my health problems. (Please don't judge, I'm trying to ease my pain.)

I have two pet rats that I adore like children, and I spend many hours making sure they're healthy and happy. I have a moderately large apartment - If I smoke pot on one side of the room, will they be okay with the second hand smoke if they are 15+ feet away by the kitchen, or do I need to move their cage to the bathroom each time I smoke? (They don't like being in there!)

  • Am I believable as a woman?

I'm a 24 year old man and I want to dress as a woman when I go out. Would you wonder if I was a man, or would you assume I was a woman? I want the truth, since I'd rather hear it online than be embarrassed in public.

  • My mom wanted me to be sexually abused?

I was abused as a kid and am recovering my memories little by little as I'm ready to deal with them. (I have been confirming everything with my sister since I started allowing myself to recall things, so I know they are accurate memories.)

My dad raped us, starting when I was 2 years old. As if that was horrific enough, I'm remembering something just as horrible; my mom was in on it. I was doing well dealing with my anger at my dad, but now I remember my mom making sure it happened. I'm not sure how much of it was because she was molested (a couple of times by a neighbor, which is no excuse compared to having your 2 kids raped for decades starting as babies) and how much is because she didn't want to have sex with him herself.

All I know is, I remember her telling me this is how she wanted it to be and she wouldn't help me. I'm so angry and the worst part is I don't at all understand how she could do this. I'm already talking to someone about it, but does anyone have any advice on how to deal with it and not blame myself or be overcome by anger? =(

  • Sensitive questions on sexual abuse and mothers?

I read recently about mothers who 'participate' in father/daughter incest without actually physically doing it. They either don't want to have sex with their husbands themselves (since these are typically pretty horrible men) or they force their daughters into a parental role by being needy and dependent on them, then 'punish' the daughter for taking over the role as mother by ensuring that something humiliating and degrading happens to them.

This may include purposely leaving the father and daughter alone together at times when the husband wants sex, or something as overt as having them shower together 'to save water' or having the father feel the daughter's breasts 'for lumps'.

I now realize that this describes the sexual abuse I suffered as a child and my mother's role. What is your opinion of this? What type of person must a mother be to do this? How much blame does this mother share? How should she be dealt with?

  • Yeast infection and other weird symptoms?

    Okay I have a few random symptoms besides yeast infection symptoms that I suspect may be related but I have no idea to what. Here they are;

Eye irritation. My eye doctor said it looked like "allergic conjunctivitis" which basically seems to mean some kind of irritation.

The yeast infection symptoms. No discharge, just itchy and kind of smelly. (sorry it's gross).

    Mild dandruff and dry skin.

I thought they all seemed to be related to dehydration, but I drank a ton of water and it didn't seem to help. I don't think I've been exposed to any random allergens lately... I'm totally open to thoughts/suggestions. Anyone?
