  • Have we, collectively, created a culture of fear?

I've heard reference to this many times before. The media, politicians, preachers & pastors marketers, retailers, etc are striving to keep us in a state of fear or anxiety. It's postulated that fear sells; that fear, on some level, is almost a drug to our society. I'm interested in what some peoples thoughts are about this

  • Christians, please help me understand?

I'm hopping mad - my housemate was recently attacked (verbally with a little physical intimidation) for nothing more than being gay. His attackers shouted things like "you are going to hell" and "Jesus hates you" and other disgusting things, most I might add religiously slanted.

So tell me where in the bible Jesus justifies hatred, bigotry and discrimination? I don't want old testament passages or interpretations of scripture. I want to know where he says hatred is okay - and I want to know why a religion that preaches love and acceptance condones or even encourages such behavior?
