  • Question regarding pedestal sump pumps?

I have a sumpless sump pump that is dying. Quick description: I have a 4" 'well', for lack of a better term in my basement that the stem of the pump goes down into, then a short horizontal connection into the pump, then up and out, (at least it used to!). These pumps are difficult to locate, expensive, and its Saturday as well.

My question - can the base of your average pedestal pump from Home Depot, etc., be removed so I could stick it into my 'well' or are the bases permanently attached to them. I realize I would still have to come up with an alternative or modification to get the float in.

Thanks for any help / ideas. Trust me, i wish i had a normal sump pump like everyone else. And a tip, when you have the home you're about to buy inspected, and the inspecter says "huh, never saw one like that before", its probably a warning!

  • Replacing garage door opener. Screw drive?

I need to replace my garage door opener and in the interest of saving a bit of work, i'm asking a potentially stupid question, is it necessary to buy the same drive system that i currently have to attempt to use the existing track? haven't taken it down yet and don't know if i simply have gears to match up in there, or what!? i obviously know nothing about how these things function, aside from that mine DOESN'T function! i'm assuming that the existing motor / track are thirty years old (house built in 1980), manufacturer unknown. thanks.

  • Favorite artists / groups that made great albums but never achieved great success?

Over the last year or so i've rediscovered a singer - songwriter named Jude Cole, who made a couple of fantastic albums of pop - rock between 1990 and 1992, among others. I read an amazon review where someone stated "should have sold millions" regarding one of these albums. Anyone interested in the group Lifehouse (I'm really not) may recognize the name, Cole has produced and / or managed them.

Anyway, I'm interested in others opinions about artists or groups who you feel made more than one great album yet only achieved moderate success. Any genre, but kind of aiming for the 1980 - 1995 period. Thanks.

  • A question for longtime Journey fans. Robert Fleischman?

Prior to discovering Steve Perry, a guy named Robert Fleischman was hired to be the new lead singer, and even co-wrote "Wheel in the Sky". Seeking any info on him, what if anything did he go on to do? Bands? Have i ever heard this guy sing and not know it?

  • Girlfriend gone two weekends in a row. Feeling hurt and lonely. Is it me?

last friday she went to a poker party at her sister and brother-in-laws and spent the night so she didn't have to drive home. apparently the party got over around four in the morning and she slept till about ten. they layed around the house till about four in the afternoon. she left their house and took her daughter (who had gone with her) to the mall and ultimately got home at ten that night. her and her daughter then left around noon on sunday, to pick up my girlfriends other, younger daughter and take both girls to the park. on my way home from a quick shopping trip, i ran by the park to visit with them but they were not there. (my girlfriend has chastised me for not doing more things with them, and i thought this would be chance to do so). everyone got home around seven sunday.

this wednesday she announced that her sister and her husband (from 400 hundred miles away) were coming to the races and camping for the weekend in the infield, and that her and her other sister (near us) were meeting them there on thursday. it is pretty much a three day party.

i was invited to both the party last weekend and the camping trip. however, my girlfriend knows that i can't afford to be gambling, (or really even know poker!), am not into all night parties, don't like to camp (actually i kind of enjoy it, except for in the morning, with no coffee and a long sandy walk to the shower - bathroom), have a bad impression of her sister and husband from out of town, and that we have two dogs and two cats at home that need to be taken care of.

all this has me feeling as if she doesn't care too much about us. i offered to go with her for the day to the racetrack where they're at instead of her leaving for three days, and this was firmly rejected. i have thought to myself that i would never do the things to her that she is doing to me lately, but i'm wondering if i am coming off as being unreasonable for not wanting her to be gone so much. trust is not really an issue for me, i don't believe she is cheating or anything like that. i have never been controlling or told her she couldn't do something, and bear in mind she has a four year old who is with us almost all the time, so i can't blame her too much for wanting to get out. however, she is not an emotionally warm person and i can't get through to her how i feel. sorry for the length! seeking opinions. thanks.

  • Anyone else enjoyed WGN's recent broadcast of old WKRP, Kotter, Barney Miller episodes?

Just had to comment that the last few nights, I spent lazy time watching these old shows. Sit - coms that make me laugh! Imagine that. Particularly WKRP's "Turkey Drop" episode last night.

  • Leaking intake manifold gasket on 2001 Malibu.?

Have been told by repair shop that our car has this problem and must be repaired asap. I have discovered this is common on this model w/ 3.1L engine. But I see no evidence of leak on the ground, and temp gauge stays in normal range. Need answers; looking at $800 repair estimate. Was told leak is currently external, but the clocks ticking.

  • Is Matt Ryan overrated? Henne, Brohm, and Flacco just as good?

Not saying Ryan's bad. But the Falcons could have saved themselves some money. Its my opinion that Henne will ultimately be the best NFL quarterback in this draft. Agree or disagree with me and your reasons why.

  • Steve Miller's "Jet Airliner" question.?

On what albums can I find the original version of "Jet Airliner? Heard the radio version the other day driving home, and realized that it's all I've heard in quite a while. Bought Greatest Hits about ten years back and was terribly disappointed to discover the clean version there, also. Can i get away from the "funky kicks" on the original album? Perhaps the radio stations in my area just suck!?

  • Question about Pebble Beach. I watch golf often and never see any tournaments played here.?

A borderline golf fan needs to know what the mystique of this course is? My dad had to get a picture of me holding the flagstick on the 18th at Pebble Beach on a trip to California nearly thirty years ago. Did they used to play a major there or something? And has its prominence been diminished by thirty years worth of "latest and greatest" golf courses?

  • Fans of the band Tyketto. Circa 90 - 91.?

Aside from Mike, the regular, who has mentioned them numerous times, I have never heard this band mentioned here. One of my favorite, somewhat obscure bands from the 90 - 91 time period. Only familiar with "Don't Come Easy". Seeking fans, info and history, and curious what became of the great singer, Danny Vaughn?

  • Question for Eagles fans. Linda Ronstandt's band members.?

A couple of recent Eagles questions have sparked my curiousity: who, exactly were the members of Ronstandt's backing band, and did they include Jackson Browne, also (essentially) an Eagles founding member?

  • Manual seat adjustment (recline) stuck in forward position. 2001 Malibu.?

Due to the recent demise of my Jeep Cherokee, we have purchased a Malibu for my g/f's use with the aforementioned broken seat. It is a power seat and she generally has the seat forward so she can get relatively comfortable, although it drove me nuts during the test drive! Is this something dumb that be repaired easily and if so, will it require tearing the cloth apart to do so? Lever works normally but seat doesn't go back! Thanks.

  • Wireless routers for dummies. Recommendations also.?

Want to buy a wireless router to get more use out of older desktop. G/f's newer computer is hooked up to cable 30 feet away. Don't laugh too hard, but I know absolutely nothing about them. Seeking a brief explanation. Specifically, how does the secondary computer receive the signal and what is needed besides router (adapters, etc.) to make my old computer more useful. Will i simply click on I. E. and have the same home page (Yahoo) as the first computer pop up after it's connected? When my g/f came into my life, the cable co. would not let us have two modems, which sucks because both are bought and paid for. Her computer was new in 2006 and I was having problems re-installing the cable internet software after doing a restore anyway (apparently the software was no longer thrilled with windows 98!), so she got the connection! And my old computer was reduced to keeping track of checking!
