As of 10/8/10, I am 65 years old. I have been married for 32 years and retired in November of 09. I have four children scattered all over the States and, at last count, I have seven grandchildren. I am a Catholic Christian but respect all Christian denominations as long as they hold true to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I have made many mistakes in my time but I have been able to learn from them and, because of that, I believe I am a better person today than I have ever been before. Life is a learning experience and I expect to continue to learn something until I take my last breath. Life is precious, make the best of it ... learn what love is and apply it to your life for the good of others. No person is an island ... everyone has good to offer if you will look for it. I love to work with wood so that is my main hobby although I like to work around the yard, go to antique malls, and be involved with helping others through the ministries of our church. .

  • Senior Citizens, are public employees?

getting dumber now or are they not being taught right? It's time for the electric bill and we didn't receive one this month so my wife called to see what was wrong. The lady said there was a printer jam up and not all of the bills were sent out. So, we asked her if we would receive a bill and she said no. We were given the amount owed over the phone and we could go to the office and pay it. We went to the office and my wife asked the lady what would have happened if she hadn't called and the lady told us we would be assessed a late penalty. Why would they do that if it was their fault? We were told they have no responsibility once the bill leaves their office. But the bill didn't leave the office but she said that didn't matter ... there would still be a late penalty. We asked for a receipt and she didn't want to give us one but we told her we weren't going to leave until we got one. We asked our friends and some didn't receive a bill either. What do you think happened here and why do you think they couldn't reason out a simple problem? What do you think we should do about this ... just let it go? I appreciate your advice.

  • Seniors Citizens: Bet you never heard this apple joke before?

I went to work in a factory when I was 20 years old and one of the college kids who worked there for the summer told me this joke:

What's the difference between an apple and an orange? A vest because it doesn't have any sleeves.

I told him it was a dumb joke, it didn't make any sense, and it wasn't funny. The look on my face must have been funny because he cracked up. I worked all night thinking about that joke trying to make sense of it. I finally decided it was funny because it didn't make any sense and I laughed until my stomach hurt. What do you think?

  • Is there anywhere scammers can be reported and expect they will be investigated?

Almost every time I check my e-mail I will receive a message requesting personal information. Sometimes they tell me my account will be canceled if I don't "update" my card information ... other times I'm told I have won lotteries or have an inheritance coming from a long lost relative in Africa, or the UK, or some other distant land. These are obvious scams. Are there any law agencies that investigate these fraudulent claims and prosecute these people? Is there any place I can forward these e-mails to so they can be investigated? If circumstances dictate that these scammers can't be traced you would at least think there would be a web page where these scammers are identified and their schemes uncovered.

  • Why are there increasing negative remarks directed at Christianity? A lack of respect if you will?

What has happened in the past 50 years or so that has begun to discredit the beliefs of Christians and their faith? As I view these questions and answers it seems to me there is an increase in expressed disatisfaction with Christianity and what it stands for, or at least a lack of respect or understanding. What has changed in the past few decades to precipitate these negative responses?
