  • Is it rude to join someone's group of motorcycles?

I ride alone on my commute and sometimes a group of bikers will ride by. Is it rude if I join the back of the pack and ride along, or should I mind my own business?

  • How long can you ignore a cavity?

I won't have dental insurance for about a year and I think I have a cavity. (There's pain whenever I eat in this one spot for about 3 weeks now) How bad is it to ignore it for about a year? Could it develop into something more costly?

  • kymco scooter, too many miles?

I'm looking at a Kymco xiting 250 scooter from 2006 with 114,000 miles on it for $700. He said the engine is rebuilt, but I'm not sure how long ago. Is that milage too high? I want to get something reliable, that I can ride to work on every day without having to worry about breakdowns or having to drop a lot of money on repairs. What do you think? Thanks.

  • Side stroke vs. 2 kick crawl?

I have a really good side stroke from years of training to be a combat swimmer, but I've never trained or learned a good front crawl. With only about 4 training swims after the water got warm enough to get in, I swam .9 miles in 30 min and finished with plenty of energy to finish a triathlon. I'm training for an ironman in about 9 months (2.4 mile swim). I need to swim it quickly but efficiently so I have lots of energy left for the rest of the race. Could I improve on what I have by learning the 2 kick front crawl? I tried it once or twice, and I go the same speed and burn a lot more energy, but then again, I'm sure my technique is sloppy. Plus, my arms aren't used to that motion yet.

  • Can I make an intercom from land lines?

I live in an old house where it's hard to hear from one end to the other. The land lines aren't hooked up because we use cell phones. Is there a way to turn our land line phones into an intercom system?

  • Do I really need to replace a bad knock sensor?

My 2001 Honda Civic has a bad knock sensor. I can't manage to get the old one to unscrew (any tips there?) I only plan to have the car for about a year, is there any reason to replace it, rather than just ignoring it? Can replacing it save me more money in a year than it costs to get it done? Thanks.

  • How do I potty train my son? Spanking?

He's 2 and a half and he'll go #1 on the potty but not #2. I've tried offering all sorts of rewards, encouraging him to sit in the morning, etc, but he'll always go in his diaper or underwear. He really seems to know when he's going. Should we start spanking him for going in his pants?

  • 125 motorcycle on the highway?

I'm considering a 125cc motorcycle for commuting on a highway. Top speed should be ok, but I'm wondering if the bike is too light for crosswinds and passing trucks. It weighs 331lbs, and I'm 190lbs. Anyone have any experience with bikes this size?

  • How do I fix my kerosine fridge?

I just moved it and it's not cooling anymore. The burner and exhaust look great, but it's just not cooling. It's an old Dometic model.

PS: I'm writing from a 3rd world country where parts and knowledgable service people are few and far between.

  • What's the most efficiant way to do a side-stroke?

When doing a side-stroke, what's more efficiant: to push your top leg forward or back for the sizzor kick? (Top leg forward has you pulling in the same dirrection as your arm on the same side, and top leg back has your opposite leg pulling)

  • Using aerobars for triathelons?

I'm a long time cyclist and also a bike mechanic, which means I've test ridden every bike that's every been fixed, although only for short distances. I've never owned aerobars, but tested plenty of them. I feel quick with them, but I also don't feel like I can breath deeply, and I wonder if I'd get cramped up after long hours in that setup. On drop bars (regular road bars) I feel more powerful and I can change hand positions to stay comfortable. I know all the triathletes use aerobars, but I'm not sold on them yet. If you've used both setups for long hours each, help me understand the pros and cons.

  • Does anyone with flat feet have any experience barefoot running?

I have lowered arches, a condition like flat-feet, as a result of running in bad shoes as a teenager. Now I use orthotics all the time and my feet will hurt after 10 min or so of walking barefoot. Could running barefoot with proper form build up my arches, or would it make them worse?

I have a DVD recorder and I've burnt a bunch of stuff from TV onto DVD, but they won't play on my laptop. Why is that, and more importantly, is there anything I can do to fix it? Thanks.
