  • Does the point of observation affect the passage of time?

A little back story: I was walking across campus today (long walk) and I was thinking about a game I play called EVE Online. What got me thinking was that a ship that's 200km away observing a target moving 900meters/second radially would appear to the ship to be moving very slowly towards him. As the ship gets closer, the target would appear to be moving faster and faster until the ship was within a certain distance, at which point it would just orbit the target.

So, and forgive me if this seems elementary, my question is: Is there a distance at which time for the target observed appears to slow (or speed up) compared to our position? The evidence is that if a target looks to be moving very slowly 200km away, is time actually passing slower for them, compared to our time passing normally for us?

My final thought on this is a while back I read about a theory that if a ship were to go 6 light years out and back (12 total), time for that ship would pass normally while we on earth would age much faster.

Thank you for whomever can help, and I hope that I haven't sounded like a complete lunatic. I can edit with more details if I am not communicating what I'm trying to ask effectively.

    Thanks again!

  • My fellow parents and parents to be! I need girl names...just start listing! :)?

I've come up with some myself, but it's one of those things where you say "Oh that's a really nice name." then you forget about it. So if you can just post your answer with names you like, and I'll go from there.

PS-If you know any sites that are good with names, just put that in your source box if you don't mind! Thanks guys

  • Athiests: I'm bedridden for life, in excruciating pain. What can you do?

What comfort can you offer me, if I were in a premier health care center and taken care of as much as medical technology provides? What can you do? What if I want to commit suicide? What advice can you offer me? Can you do anything for me now?

  • What is your version of Intelligent Design and what proof do you use to back it up?

While I am disappointed at the total lack of Christians in response to my last question:

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AouI6...

I want to know what Christians in general base their fact off of. I read the Bible, I know what's there. I know the Bible says that God created man from the dust, but where is the proof of this concept? James says a faith without works is dead. My faith that God created my ancestors from the dust means nothing if I cannot find the work to back it up. So this is what I am looking for:

    1. What have you found based on your own personal research into I.D.?

    2. Are there any major (or minor) universities, scientists or other type experts that you agree with or base your fact on?

    3. Is there a limit to what you believe with I.D.? As in, do you believe in some points that concern I.D., but feel as if others are too far fetched?

Evolutionists don't need to preach here, I've gotten your side already.

  • What is your version of evolution, and if you are Christian how do you cope with evolution in general?

I've been wondering about evolution, and I've taken quite a strong stance against it in the past. However, after starting my Biology class and reading the first chapter, I have come to a crossroads of sorts. I can see the relationship of evolution to the furthuring of a species (i.e. Natural Selection) and I can also see the common ancestors of animals eventually evolving into what we have today (i.e. domesticated horses or dogs). So here is what I want to know:

    1. If you believe in evolution

    2. What is your stance or what about evolution you believe.

    3. If you are a Christian, have you incorporated evolution into your beliefs? Shunned it alltogether?

    4. What scientific proof do we have that a common ancestor is linked between us and apes.

    5. If there is the legend of the missing link, and it is prevalent today, what causes us to still make the connection between two different creatures (apes and humans)

    6. If all of this is true, why don't the apes (natural selection) do what we do?

  • Where did the phrase "I've been around the block a few times" originate from?

I was watching Family Guy last night and for some reason that phrase got stuck in my mind, and I started wondering what this phrase actually implied and where it came from. Anyone know?

  • I finally moved to somewhere I can get pets...so which one?

I have always wanted a really big dog. I don't know why, but I do. So does anyone have any advice on some gentle giants? Should I look for a specific breed (doesn't have to be pure breed...lol, I'm just looking for a normal dog) or is any big dogs usually good once you train them? I'll add details once I get some answers.

    Thanks!

  • What is the comparision between World of Warcraft and Lord of the Ring Online?

So I've stopped playing WoW for personal reasons. I've been looking for a fantasy game and came across Lord of the Rings Online-Shadows of Angmar. I started it (as I get the free month) and haven't been enjoying it quite as much. This may be due to the quality of World of Warcraft, but my real question is: Will Lord of the Rings Online get better with time? How many people play on LotR online compared to WoW? Lastly, is there a better fantasy MMORPG out there?

  • How small (or how big) does an object need to be to exert gravity?

Let's say I take a piece of paper and place it in the middle of the universe, stationary. Everything else is smaller than this piece of paper. Would the paper exert gravity on the smaller objects? If so, how small would the objects have to be, or how big would the piece of paper have to be to have them rotate around the paper? Does an object have to be a specific shape to exert gravity or rotate a certain speed? This is an honest question.

  • How do I start a personal clothing store?

My wife is Oneness Pentacostal. If you don't know, they were skirts that go down to at least their ankles. They do this for modesty reasons. Religion aside, she can find no stores where we live that offer this style of dress. I recently gave her the idea of starting her own clothing line. How would we be able to put this into production? I need a website maybe or a list of things to get going on to be able to succcessfully (from mechanics point of view) start a clothing store where I live. Any ideas or info on this?

  • My wife says I talk in my sleep and move allot, which wakes her up in the night. What can we do?

We just recently got married, so we are just getting used to each other when we sleep. She says that if she moves over, I will move closer to her, and it's just plain annoying when I'm talking in my sleep. Is there some sort of medicine (over the counter) that I can take to have me stop? What can we do so she can get a good night sleep without having to sleep somewhere else?
