2 AnswersMathematics1 decade agoEXPONENTIAL ASTONISHMENT ASSISTANCE NEEDED!?
I am in need of some assistance with me math. If you could be as detailed as possible that would be great. Ultimately, I am trying to learn this stuff so that I will do well on my exam. Thanks a bunch.
Earthquake Magnitudes
1. How many times as much energy is released by an earthquake of magnitude 7 as by one of magnitude 5?
2. How much energy, in joules, was released by the 1975 earthquake in Tangshan, China (magnitude 7.9), which killed an estimated half million people?
3. What is meant by carrying capacity and why is it so difficult to determine the carrying capacity of the Earth?
4. What is a half life? Suppose a radioactive substance has a half life of 1000 years. What fraction would be left after 1000 years? after 2000 years? after 4000 years?
5. The price of gasoline is increasing by 4 cents per week. If the price is $3.10 per gallon today, what will it be in ten weeks?
6. The value of your house is increasing by 8% per year. If it is worth 100,000 today, what will it be worth in five years?
Again, please be as specific if possible so that I can take accurate notes and figure out how to do these for my exam. Thanks in advance for your assistance.
2 AnswersMathematics1 decade agoExponential Astonishment Help?
I have a few questions that I am in need of some assistance with.
1. Suppose you had a magic bank account in which your balance doubled each day. If you started with just $1, could you be a millionaire in less than one month?
2. The population of Winesburg is increasing at a rate of 3% per year. If the population is 75,000 today, what would it be in five years?
3. The value of your car is decreasing by 10% per year. If your car is worth $12,000 today, what will it be worth in five years?
I will need you to be as detailed (step-by-step) as possible so that I can use these examples for my homework as well as my exam. Thanks in advance.

1 AnswerMathematics1 decade agoStatistics assistance needed?
I am studying to take my GRE and I could use some freshening up on my statistics. I have actually forgotten a lot of these concepts so if you could be as detailed as possible that would be great! Thanks in advance.
Perform the hypothesis test given the situation and data.
8) In 1990, the average duration of long-distance telephone calls originating in one town was 9.4 minutes. A long-distance telephone company wants to perform a hypothesis test to determine whether the average duration of long-distance phone calls has changed from the 1990 mean of 9.4 minutes. The mean duration for a random sample of 50 calls originating in the town was 8.6 minutes. Does the data provide sufficient evidence to conclude that the mean call duration, μ, is less than the 1990 mean of 9.4 minutes? Perform the appropriate hypothesis test using a significance level of 0.01. Assume that the population standard deviation = 4.8 minutes.
1 AnswerMathematics1 decade agoAre you good with statistics?
Please answer questions in as much detail as possible. I am studying to take me Graduate School entrance exam. Thanks a bunch!
a)Test the claim and report the conclusion.
A nationwide study of American homeowners revealed that 64% have one or more lawn mowers. A lawn equipment manufacturer, located in Omaha, feels the estimate is too low for households in Omaha. Can the value 0.64 be rejected if a survey of 495 homes in Omaha yields 332 with one or more lawn mowers? Use standard deviation= 0.05.
b) Determine the conclusion for the hypothesis test.
A researcher wants to check the claim that convicted burglars spend an average of 18.7 months in jail. She takes a random sample of 35 such cases from court files and finds that x = 16.7 months. Assume that the population standard deviation is 7 months. Test the null hypothesis that μ = 18.7 at the 0.05 significance level.

d) Below are listed an alternate hypothesis, a sample mean, a sample standard deviation, a claimed population mean, and a
sample size for a certain data set. Without computing a P-value, determine whether the alternate hypothesis is supported
and give a reason for your conclusion.
Ha : μ > claimed value, x = 21.5, standard deviation = 6, claimed population mean = 21.9, n = 100
2 AnswersMathematics1 decade agoCOULD YOU HELP ME WITH MY STATISTICS?
Please answer the question and provide as much detail as you can about how you arrived at the answer. I am studying for an exam. Thanks kindly!
1) A study of a brand of "in the shell" peanuts gives the following results:
Number of
Peanuts per bag Probability
25 0.003
30 0.02
35 0.09
40 0.15
45 0.35
50 0.217
55 0.07
A significant event at the 0.01 level is a fan getting a bag with how many peanuts?
State the conclusion that addresses the original claim.
2) Carter Motor Company claims that its new sedan, the Libra, will average better than 23 miles per gallon in the city. Assuming that a hypothesis test of the claim has been conducted and that the conclusion is to reject the null hypothesis, state the conclusion in nontechnical terms.
Identify the population to which the results of the test apply.
3) A skeptical paranormal researcher claims that the proportion of Americans that have seen a UFO, p, is less than 1 in every ten thousand. Assume that a hypothesis test of the claim has been conducted and that the conclusion of the test was to reject the null hypothesis.

2 AnswersMathematics1 decade agoCan you provide some statistics assistance please?
I am preparing for a final exam and needing to brush up on my statistics.
I need help. The question is as follows:
State the null hypothesis and the alternative hypothesis for a test of significance.
The owner of a football team claims that the mean attendance as games is greater then 83,000.
Part two
Formulate the null and the hypotheses for the study described.
In 1990, the average duration of long distance telephone calls in one town was 9.3 minuites. A long-distance telephone company wants to perform a hypothesis test to determine whether the average duration of long-distance phone calls has changed from the 1990 mean of 9.3 minutes.
When answering, please give as many details as possible so that I can take accurate notes. Thanks!
3 AnswersMathematics1 decade agoCan anyone enlighten me on the Jamaican male culture?
I am a very independent, headstong, stubborn American woman and I have recently taking a liking to a Jamaician born, Brit. I have dated many international guys but for some reason, I can't quite figure this one out. Sometimes he can seem downright rude. If I call too much it bothers him, if I don't call enough it bothers him. When I ask him what the deal is, try to see where his head is as far as we are concerned, he says that he is a different type of guy that doesn't display his feelings outwardly, He will bring his friends around, and we hang out occasionally, (which around them) is the only time he gives any indication that he is even interested. Now, before I give him the boot, I am at least going to give him the benefit of the doubt, and research his background a little bit. I think that if I get some background information on the Jamaican culture, perhaps I won't be so quick to judge him, or this relationship. Perhaps I may even be obliged to display some obediance.

5 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoHow do you keep the brown liquid from coming out of the iron and from caking up on the surface?
I just brought a new iron and already it has brown liquid seeping from the holes an onto my clothes. What is the "BROWN" stuff that builds onto the irons surface and thru the holes? Is there a way to prevent this from happening? Is there a way to clean it off once it does take place? Are there certain products that you can use either way (to prevent or to treat)?
14 AnswersCleaning & Laundry1 decade agoI have a 1996 Chevy Lumina Car that won't go over 10 mph. The check engine light is on. What should I do?
When I brought my car, I was told that I would need a oxygen sensor. Could that be the reason why my car isn't getting the pressure that it needs? I have had a complete tune-up. Before I contact a repairman, I would like to at least know what I should tell him to look for. The car ran fine for at least a month. Please offer any advice that you can.
