Nebraska laws and storage units?
I have a storage unit in Nebraska that I've had for about a year. This past month my payment was due on the 1st but I talked to them and made arrangements to pay later in the month. I arrived, as agreed, to pay them today and nobody was there. After several phone calls I was told somebody would be there on Monday and that they couldn't take my credit card over the phone because they weren't in the office to process it. They also couldn't take the card number because they were driving and unable to write. In the meantime, it's the weekend and I have a truck I need to unload but am unable to access my unit. They tell me that when payments are 5 days late, tenants are locked out of their units and their contents basically held hostage. I didn't think they could legally confiscate your posessions unless they had served you written notice (they have not - I check my mail today), or had filed in court (they have not). I'm just curious about the Nebraska law on this. They say I can pay them on Monday but now I'm spending the entire weekend panicked that the contents of my entire life are being held hostage by a business that may not be operating within the perameters of the law. Can anyone speak specifically to Nebraska law on this subject. Please note, I've been in communication with them all the way, I am not a full month in arrears, and I do have my payment at hand if I can get them to show up to work to take it. I'm not dodging a bill. I'm just concerned I've gotten myself caught up in something shady. Thanks!
3 AnswersRenting & Real Estate8 years agoIs there anything I can do when the law firm of a creditor is unwilling to negotiate a debt judgement?
In 2003 my mom and I bought a vehicle together through Ford Motor Credit. At the time, we had an 800 credit score and received a loan with only 1% interest. In 2005, the California economy hit the rails, we lost our business and everything else. The vehicle was repossessed. At the time, Ford was very generous in trying to reach a settlement with us – they asked only $1,100 which we would have gladly paid them but we were quite literally homeless at that point. They received a judgement and the case was handed over to a Caliornia law firm, MacDowell & Associates. When we were finally made aware of it the judgement was $5,000. Well, we have stumbled and fallen for 6-1.2 years now. We’ve been homeless for all of that time minus a few months on two separate occasions when we found contract work that kept us above ground for a while. My mother is 72, I am 43, and we have been fully homelss (not living on anyone’s counch but quite literally in the street) for over two years. We recently contacted MacDowell & Assocaites again, after finding the possibility of a place to live but being turned down because of the judgement. We explained to them our situation and were told, “This one is up in two years and we will renew it for another 10 years and another 10 years until you die.” We asked what they could possibly settle for, if we were able to find a friend or relative that could make us a loan and they are now saying, “We won’t take less than $10,900 today and if you call in a week it will be even more.”…………………. We are not running from debt. We fully understand and accept that we fell off the rails financially and that we need to do our part to make this good but, 6-1/2 years is a very long time to be homeless. We quite literally live from cheap hotel room to cheap hotel room day by day. We have a car with over 200,000 miles on it and not any other asset. We’re trying to find resolution to this but I get one smart mouthed collection agent after another on the phone. I can’t offer them what I don’t have. What can we do?
4 AnswersCredit8 years agois there any chance of a transaction being declined on my debit card after it has already been pre-authorized?
I had a pre-authorization on my account for a hotel stay but the amount fell away before the merchant submitted it. Now I'm worried that if my account balance falls below the hotel charge, what will happen? Is there any chance the transaction will be declinded since it was pre-authorized for the amount? Or, will the bank overdraft my account? Bank of America / Visa Debit Card
2 AnswersPersonal Finance8 years agoMy cat's voice changed after I think he may have swallowed something?
We were visiting friends a little over a week ago and my cat decided to pout under their bed for most of our 2 day visit. He crawled up in the box spring of the mattress, and I think but am not certain, that he may have eaten some string from the fabric or fiber underneath the bed.
I was concerned but his behavior was normal, so I gave him a hairball treatment as a precaution. We left the following morning, and he has been back to his old self ever since. My concern though is that his voice has changed since this happened. Previously he had a loud, full wailing meow when he wanted out but now he's got a raspy, scratchy, much softer meow. He seems to be eating and digesting food normally. He breathing normally. I'm not sure what to think of his activity level. He's always been a bit of a couch potato and just 3 weeks ago his only brother (and our only other pet) died. We got 2 9 week old kittens within a couple of days and he's taken to them quite readily but he's had bouts of depression, as have we all, over the loss of our other kitty so I'm reluctant to say what's "normal" with regard to his physical activity because of all of this.
Anyway, back to the possibility that he may have swallowed some string or fiber, and that raspy throat. If all else has been pretty normal (appetite, digestion,etc...) for the past 7-10 days since it happened, is it reasonable that if he did swallow something he would be exhibiting much more severe symptoms by now? I think I'm paranoid but I could use any objective observations.
Thank you!
3 AnswersCats9 years agoMy Cat is Standing In the Litter Box and Peeing Outside of It.....HELP!?
Hi,
Any ideas? I'm stumped! I have two very well trained (they even walk on a leash), two year old cats. One of them has suddenly started getting in the litter box to poo but stands inside of it and then urinates outside of it on the carpet.
He's a healthy cat & has no signs or symptoms of urinary tract infection or any problems getting around. I am convinced that he is upset about not being able to roam at will outside that way he previously has. Unfortunately, we are surrounded by traffic and his instinct to avoid it is to lie as close to the black pavement as possible - he's a black cat so he thinks this camouflages him from oncoming vehicles.
Back story: We adopted both kittens at 5 & 8 weeks of age while living in a rural mountainous area of Tennessee. They were always inside kitties but had full freedom to roam outdoors & climb trees (Apple Jacks favorite thing to do). We were somewhat homeless for 6 months and they lived with us in the car by day & hotels by night. For the next few months we were in an apartment in a city (Dallas) that was surrounded by a creek and trees where they were also able to roam and play at will. Now we've found work & home in a high traffic area of San Diego (Pacific Beach). Just a block from the beach, an ideal location for humans but not for kitties to roam at will. They've traveled alot and are very well adapted to the leash but limited with tree climbing. We had been taking them out to run on the beach in the evenings until we learned the hard way about sand fleas.
I'm stumped. I really am. In spite of our own financial circumstances the past couple of years, they've been 100% on Purina Fancy Feast canned food & canned Medleys with lots of variety. They also have Fancy Feast dry food out at their disposal & we're generous with Purina treats. Occasionally they also have canned mackrel, tuna, or salmon. They have fresh water several times a day and fresh litter every week - scooped once or twice a day. I read everything I could online and even bought a new litter box (black - because he loves anything his color) and did a total makeover of his cabinet. In addition, they have an 8 foot kitty condo and lots of toys.
I'm convinced that he's being obstinate about not being able to go outside at will. What do I do? I don't want him to get hurt but I can't have him urinating all over my apartment. The other cat, who is less fond of the outdoors in California, is perfectly fine.
Sincerely,

5 AnswersCats1 decade agoIn Texas, how much time does my landlord have to give me if he wants me to move? No lease. Not behind on $$?
My mom lives in Dallas County, Texas. She has been employed by an apartment complex that offers her an apartment on a month to month basis - that she pays rent for separate from her employment. She pays her rent in full - it's not part of her salary, nor is it discounted. She was recently laid off due to cut backs and wants to continue to live here for a couple of months until she finds work. As long as she's paying her rent on time (she's not behind and never has been) how much notice do they have to give her to vacate if they want her out. There is no written agreement at all and never has been. But she does have regular, on time payment records for her rent.
There is no written agreement at all. Also, they have been raising her rent $25 per month for the past three months while she was still employed by them. Is this legal? She's now paying $725/per month. I'm sure they will want $750 in April unless they expect her to move.
2 AnswersRenting & Real Estate1 decade agoI would like to start a career as a flight attendant and be based in NYC.?
Would it be better to move to NYC first and then start applying? Or would it be best to apply from where I currently live and hope to get a home base there?
I've been in Los Angeles for the past eight years but am currently in Tennessee on a temporary basis. NY is a move I am planning to make later this year either way. I would like to get in and get my training under my belt as soon as possible but I don't want to wind up permanently stationed out of this area - nearest big airports being Atlanta or Nashville.
A friend who has been in the industry for about 20 years told me once that she has always been based out of Baltimore although she has never once flown out of there. She lives in Dallas. Is that a possibility at the beginning of your career these days?
3 AnswersOther - Careers & Employment1 decade agoI think I may have an infection in one fallopian tube...?
I made the mistake of douching numerous times last summer with a home remedy (echinacea, golden seal, & tap water - then colloidal silver and tap water) because I thought I had an infection from a cyst that had burst but never went to the doctor to confirm it.
Later, I had lots of pelvic swelling (PID) and I could feel my left fallopian tube hard and swollen. I went to the doctor (September) and they found strep infection in a vaginal culture. He prescribed 875 mg Amoxicillin for 10 days.
Two months later the symptoms returned and I went back for another culture. They found e-coli that time and prescribed the same - 875 mg Amoxicillin for 10 days.
That did NOTHING so I went back in two weeks later and they found Klebsiella Pneumonia in a vaginal swab and prescribed Bactrin for 7 days. They also did a transvaginal ultrasound and found one nabothian cyst on my cervix and one 2 cm cyst on my right (not left) ovary. Neither of these concern me greatly at this point.
I still didn't think it was gone but they didn't want me to come back in for another month (January 15, 2008). My doctor who is also family practice wants to follow up on the cysts at that time. Through all of this I have had a hard, swollen fallopian tube that I can feel on my left side.
**** It bothers me that he didn't want me to come right back in for another culture when I finished the Bactrin and didn't think it had totally gotten rid of the Klebsiella Pneumonia - although I do think it made very significant progress. ******
I've not been on antibiotics in more than 20 years. I'm 38 now. So maybe I just don't understand how they work. Would it take Bactrin a month to work through the system to fully see progress in the swelling of the fallopian tube? I can't get a straight answer from my Dr's office on this.
I don't want to switch doctors in the midst of all of this. And I do like my doctor but I'm concerned that he's not quite moving in the right direction at the right pace. I'm no doctor though so I don't want to try to tell him how to do his job.
2. Also, about the transvaginal ultrasound. The technician told me that she can't see the fallopian tubes with a transvaginal. Should he have ordered a pelvic ultrasound instead? Or am I just being totally over the top about all of this?
1 AnswerWomen's Health1 decade agoMy doctor prescribed Bactrim for Klebsiella Pneumoniae found in a vaginal culture. Is one round enough?
I went in for pelvic inflammation and pain in September and they found Strep in a vaginal culture for which he prescribed Amoxicillin. Two months later the symptoms reoccurred and they found e-coli and prescribed more Amoxicillin. I still had symptoms though and went back for more tests about 4 days after finishing the second prescription. This is when they found "KLEBSIELLA PNEUMONIAE: HEAVY GROWTH" in another vaginal culture. They did a pelvic ultrasound at the same time and found two cysts - neither of which are threatening in any way at all.
The on-call doctor prescribed Bactrin for the Klebsiella and that seemed to work but I called when the prescription was complete to set up an appointment for more tests just to be sure. My doctor said he didn't want to see me until mid-January when he has another transvaginal ultrasound scheduled for the cysts that are entirely unrelated and un-threatening. He is entirely uninterested in testing for the Klebsiella again which concerns me. I don't think it's gone but he thinks I've had too many antibiotics in too short a time span for me to even come in and see.
Should I insist on going in anyway?
I've never been on prescription drugs. I'm 38 now and had penicillin once when I was 5 years old. My last prescription was 19 years ago for pneumonia. I don' t drink. Don't smoke. Vegetarian. Classic case of uber healthy so this is all very foreign and confusing to me. I'm really lost.
Is it too soon for another round of Bactrin if the infection isn't cleared? Or does this stuff work in your system a while after you've finished taking it? Like say, a month?
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
3 AnswersWomen's Health1 decade agoMy doctor found klebsiella pneumonia in a vaginal culture & prescribed Bactrin for 7 days. Now what?
In September he found strep and prescribed amoxicillin - 875mg for 10 days. For two months everything seemed almost okay but then I started having pain again so I went back and they found e-coli and prescribed the same amount of amoxicillin. That didn't do ANYTHING so I went right back and they did another culture and the lab report came back: "Klebsiella Pneumonia - Heavy Growth". The on-call doctor prescribed Bactrin for 7 days.
The Bactrin has seemed to work but I don't think it totally got rid of it. It's just been 6 days though since I finished the prescription. My doctor doesn't even want to do another culture until mid-January but I"m not sure that doesn't have more to do with taking time off for Christmas than it does for my health.
So my question is, would I still be feeling some symptoms for a while? Does the medication continue to work in your system a while after you finish taking it?
I'm lost. I've never been on medications like this ever in my life so I don't really know what I'm suppose to expect with them.
Thank you!
1 AnswerWomen's Health1 decade agoMy doctor found e. coli in my vagina: I am taking Amoxicillin but I don't think it's working. What next?
I've been fighting this infection myself for nearly a year now with herbal supplements. I thought it was infection left behind from a cyst that had burst. After months and months of testing they finally located e. coli in my vagina. I am on Amoxicillin now but it doesn't seem to be working. They had prescribed it to me about 3 months ago for strep in my vagina and it seemed to work but the infection came back and that's when they realized it was e. coli.
Can this be cured? What next?
1 AnswerWomen's Health1 decade agoI've had discomfort in my lower left pelvis for some time now. What could this be?
I've had pain in my lower left pelvis for almost a year now. About 18 months ago I thought I had an ovarian cyst and was treating it with a combination of herbal supplements taken as a tea. It was a large, lemon sized lump in the area of my left ovary. After several months of my tea concoction it flattened but I felt an oozing sensation in my lower left pelvis for the next couple of weeks. I think that the cyst may have burst and left a draining infection behind. (???)
A few months ago I saw a gynecologist for PID (pelvic inflammatory disease) and a feeling like there is a marble inside of me. I don't know any other way to explain it. He did a pelvic exam, blood tests, and cultures. I did have a strep infection in my pelvis area and he prescribed Amoxil.
This seemed to work for a couple of months but with my last cycle all of the former symptoms have returned. I went back in for another exam and more tests only to find out that he only tested me for STD's which all came back negative. He did not test for the strep infection again, or according to his nurse, anything else.
Now he's out of town and I'm stuck in limbo. This has been progressing for the past 3 weeks again:
-lower abdominal bloating (PID)
-the feeling of a marble or hard place in my lower left side near where I think the fallopian tubes may be
- an oozy, slightly burning sensation in what I think might be the left of my uterus and cervix.
He did do blood work the first time for cancer - negative. Any ideas? Is it possible that an ultrasound would offer more conclusive info? What tests should I request. Really, just any thought would be comforting at this point.
Thanks! :)
