where can I buy handmade quilts in Vancouver, BC?
I'm interested in a handmade quilt. It doesn't need to be amish or antique, just made by hand. Are there quilt shows or stores where I can go to buy a new handmade quilt?
Thanks!
2 AnswersOther - Arts & Humanities9 years agoDoes it matter what auto insurance broker I choose in BC?
I am new to BC, and I understand that everyone needs basic auto insurance though ICBC. When buying additional coverage (collision etc) does it matter which broker I choose? Do they have different rates/policies/deductibles or are they all pretty much the same? THANKS! :D
2 AnswersInsurance & Registration9 years agoWashing machine allowed in rental?
I just moved into a rental house and have a small portable washing machine that we use. No where in the lease does it say such a device is not allowed, but my landlord is insisting it's not allowed. Is there any by-law in BC saying renters can't have a washing machine? Thanks for your help :D
4 AnswersRenting & Real Estate9 years ago2nd mortgage on siblings joint property?
3 siblings own a home, which they inherited from their father after his death. Is it possible for one sibling to take out a 2nd mortgage on the house (in their name), in order to buy a separate house of their own? About half of the house is already paid off.
Let me know if this needs further clarification, thanks!
2 AnswersRenting & Real Estate9 years agoAny good vancouver toy store suggestions?
I'm looking for toy stores in the vancouver metro area, especially downtown, but all other areas work too. Places like "TJ's kids" and "Cowboys & Angels" but NOT Toys R Us or Sears etc. We're looking for toys for our 7 month old baby (organic and wooden are a plus!)
Thank you, I really appreciate it :D
2 AnswersToys10 years agoshould I convert my savings to CAD now or leave it in US funds until the dollar is stronger?
I'm wondering if the looming destruction of the government is going to send the dollar further down, so maybe it's best to convert now? We're moving to canada in about 4 weeks. Our savings is about $5k USD.
3 AnswersPersonal Finance10 years agoDo Vancouver apartments allow therapy pets with a note from a doctor?
If I have a note from my doctor, can I keep a pet in a no-pets apartment in vancouver? I currently live in Oregon, and if you have a note saying the animal is for therapy, you can have it regardless of the pet rules.
Thanks for your help~
4 AnswersVancouver10 years agohow to find an apartment in Vancouver (Burnaby area) BC?
I'll be moving from Oregon to Vancouver (Burnaby) BC in late August and I'm wondering how local people usually find apartments? Is Craigslist popular there, or Kijiji? Is it more common for people to post apartments around town or in the paper?
I read somewhere that apartments rent quickly--like same day they're posted, is this true?
My plan is to go to Vancouver mid-august and search for a couple of days for an apartment to rent, head back to Oregon once I find one, and drive my stuff/family up there.
I'm just looking for a little local knowledge, thank you everyone! ^_______^
3 AnswersVancouver1 decade agoEntering canada a few weeks before school begins?
My family and I are moving to Canada so that I can attend graduate school (my partner will be issued a worker's permit). School starts at the end of August, but we'd like to come August 1st for the sake of getting settled into an apartment. Is this possible?
We'll be here for about 7 years so we're moving ALL of our stuff, incl. 2 cats and a baby so it would basically be a nightmare if we got turned away at the border o_o Would we thus be entering as tourists? We're all US citizens, going to Vancouver BC by moving van.
Thanks so much for your help~
1 AnswerStudying Abroad1 decade agoWhat is the average weight for an asian baby (chinese/japanese)?
I know that the white american average is 7~8lbs, but what about asian babies? Ours will be half chinese, half japanese. One would think that asian babies would be smaller, because asian women have smaller hips.
Technical answers not necessary; personal experience/knowledge is appreciated too!
6 AnswersOther - Cultures & Groups1 decade agoExperience living in Dorchester, Mass?
I'm just looking for the experiences people have had living in Dorchester, Mass. I heard it's a 'dangerous' neighborhood, but I don't really know what that implies (murders? muggings? gangs?)
I live in Portland Oregon and there is literally no crime here (no murders, mugggings or gangs, anyhow). The worst crime I've ever heard of happening to a friend was her car got broken into.
So I'm wondering what it's really like in Dorchester. Could I walk the streets late at night? Should I be worried about muggings?
I'd like to hear about it's reputation from the people who live there or are familiar! Thanks~
5 AnswersBoston1 decade agoIs it legal to sublease, sublet in Massachusetts?
I am wondering if anyone knows the laws about this. Nothing specific. I know that it can depend on what the rental contract says, but I'm looking for personal knowledge/experience here....

5 AnswersRenting & Real Estate1 decade agoOregon surrogacy law?
I know that in Oregon, the law says that the surrogate mother cannot be paid for the birth of the child. The question I have is about relinquishment at birth. If we use the surrogate's own eggs, do we need to adopt the child? In some states, the intended parents become the legal parents at birth, but often that's only with gestational surrogacy (birth mother has no genetic connection to the fetus).
If you have any info, I'd really appreciate it~
2 AnswersAdoption1 decade agoCost to adopt child from surrogate?
Hello all~
How much would it cost to adopt a child from a surrogate? In this case, the surrogate would be my sister in law, so it's an inter-family "adoption". The child is our child, but I know that legally, we still have to adopt him/her from the person who gives birth. I'm just wondering ballpark how much that might cost.
We live in the state of Oregon, but I'm open to hear how much it cost you in other states too. Thanks for any info you have to share!
1 AnswerTrying to Conceive1 decade agoRh negative shots during pregnancy?
Anyone else out there who is Rh negative blood type? I am wondering how often you had to get shots to avoid miscarriage? I was told 20 weeks by my sister, but that seems to infrequent, considering pregnancy is only 40 weeks.
8 AnswersPregnancy1 decade agoDifficult to get clomid?
Thank you for reading through my question!
Here's the quick version of it: How difficult was it for you to get a prescription for clomid?
Long version of the question:
We're TTC with frozen sperm. It's really quite expensive at $1,000 a shot. My wife really has no fertility issues, I am the one who is sterile. The sperm we are buying is for IUI, but we're doing an ICI at home (that is to say, we're putting the sperm in her cervix, not all the way up in her uterus)
I know that doctors usually ask that you try to conceive for 12 months before coming in and getting clomid, but obviously we'd like to avoid paying up to $12,000 before we get some assurance that she will ovulate.
We are also very interested in having twins or triplets (yes, we know the risks), because this will likely be the only pregnancy she will have, due to her career choices (I'm going to stay at home with the kids while she works in a demanding field. She doesn't want to take off more than one year to make our family).
Long story short, we just want to use clomid to make sure she gets pregnant, and we're fine with multiples. I want to know if it's difficult to get clomid? How long did your doctor wait before he prescribed it?
Thanks so much for your info!

I have an old generation ipod nano. The screen is blindingly bright at night when I change a song or change the volume. How can I dim the screen?
I've looked all through the settings and menus and still can't seem to figure it out, but I swear I've done it before...? But this is like my 5th ipod, so maybe that feature isn't available now...?
Thanks!
1 AnswerMusic & Music Players1 decade agoOregon gay foster parenting?
Hello everyone
my partner and I are looking into becoming Oregon foster parents. We have an Oregon domestic partnership.
I read on the oregon foster website that if you're living with a 'significant other' you have to be 'married' to them...does our domestic partnership count as 'marriage' in the eyes of the foster care system?
Thanks for your help!
1 AnswerLesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender1 decade agoWhat happens at the end of my Quebec lease?
I am a US citizen living in Quebec. I have a 6 month lease here in Quebec. Once my lease is finished, am I responsible for finding a new renter to take my place?
From what I've observed, this seems to be the norm here. But I am not sure if that is just a courtesy, or if it's required. I haven't read anything about it in my lease, but I'm still wondering.
It seems odd to me that once my lease if finished, I would have anything to do with the property...
Anyone with experience to share is greatly appreciated!
