Just got food allergy blood test results back. Are these reliable?
http://www.aruplab.com/guides/ug/tests/0055100.jsp - I had this test.
My dermatologist suspected that I might have have additional food allergies (already confirmed allergies to peanuts, tree nuts, cheese, sunflower seeds, bananas) due to some of my rashes and hives. My primary care doctor sent my blood sample off for a test of 26 of the most common food allergens in adults. It confirmed that I am still allergic to peanuts. It also showed mild/moderate allergies to wheat, oats, carrots, tomatoes, bell peppers, and egg white. My PCP, who specializes in nutrition, said I should eliminate all these things from my diet. I can still eat egg yolks, just not the whites. Is this test reliable? Should I go see an allergy specialist?
3 AnswersAllergies1 decade agoRecent book about old cookbooks/photos - looking for title and author?
I read it around January earlier this year. It was a colorful book with the author making comments about the pictures and recipes in cookbooks reprinted probably from the 1940s to 1960s. The actual book I am looking for was published in 2006. It was humorous and snarky, and I didn't write down the author or title. I borrowed it through my library system, but they don't keep those past records, of course (for our privacy, which I appreciate). This is driving me a bit crazy. I have searched the library catalog, amazon, etc, and cannot find it! Any ideas?
1 AnswerBooks & Authors1 decade agoDreaming about food every night in the last three weeks?
I am 27 weeks pregnant now. My husband dreams about the baby himself and my giving birth, but apparently I am not as worried about this yet. For the last three weeks, my dreams have been filled with food, eating food, smelling food, tasting all sorts of marvelous things! Then I wake up famished. Maybe it has do with being anemic (which is hopefully beign corrected now), but I just get up and eat something first thing in the morning. Is this normal or is it just me? When my first niece was born, I had more dreams about misplacing her and such, but I seem to have no such worries for my own baby yet.
1 AnswerPregnancy1 decade agoPossible heart problem found during 20 week ultrasound?
We have had to wait nearly a week to get in with the pediatric cardiologist we were referred to (two more days to wait), because the OB at our 'regular' ultrasound didn't see a heart structure that should be there. He gave us a very serious possible diagnosis, but kept saying that he didn't know enough, either. Also, the baby was ina terrible position - and wouldn't turn around enough, so the OB kept saying he couldn't get the axis right. I have since had people tell me that they got dire predictions for their babies, but ultimately they were fine, or it wasn't as bad as originally thought. He also said it might be likely the baby has Downs, too, but our triplemarker test came back very negative for Downs already. So we are very worried, but have some hope, too. Anybody else with similar experience?
3 AnswersPregnancy1 decade agoCraving food and gender?
I know this has probably been asked, but . . . I have a few friends at work who think I am having a boy because I have craved hamburgers three times in the 11 weeks I've been pregnant (and I really don't eat a lot of red meat, in general). More often, I have craved salty and sweet (at the same time!) when I haven't been feeling sick. I have been enjoying (sweet) oranges the most. Mmmm. So does fruit mean anything? Does that mean a girl? What about hamburger craving?
Btw, I have tried the online chinese astrology gender prediction. This doesn't work because the days that I could have possibly conceived span the end of march and the beginning of april. March would be a boy for me, and April would be a girl.
12 AnswersPregnancy1 decade agoHow soon will I get regular after getting off the Patch?
I am going to go off the bc patch in a couple weeks after a year and half on it, and hope to get pregnant. How long will it take my period/cycle to become regular after I go off? Sometimes my cycle wasn't all that regular before the patch. Should it be better now?
