I'm not sure I understand: epiphenomenalists claim mental phenomena are merely an effect of brain activity, but that they are something immaterial, a different substance from matter that cannot influence back the brain.

Again, I'm not sure I understand the subject correctly and I have some problem expressing my thought on such a subject on a foreign language, so ask if clarifications are needed.

I heard different statements on the matter from a cardiologist and an anesthesiologist, so i'm a little confused. What is the scientific consensus on the matter? How long can the brain stay flat-lined before resuscitation is impossible?

Mind you, I'm not asking you what the PE is, I would like to understand what mechanism does the belief you are being treated trigger in the subject.

I'm a rather skeptical person, but this video is rather thought provoking. The expert interviewed is Michael Persinger, he's apparently rather qualified.

I've heard of a similiar experiment performed in Edimburgh by Mario Kittenis, which had similiar results.

Now, I'm not criticizing conservatives in general, and as a matter of fact every conservative I know who knows about conservapedia considers it either an embarassment or a joke.

Premetto che questo non vuole essere in nessun modo un attacco al cristianesimo: anzi, l'opinione dei cristiani mi interessa particolarmente in questo caso.

Ho passato gli ultimi mesi a fare ricerche sul cristianesimo in America per la mia universitá.

Hanno attratto la mia attenzione soprattutto i gruppi piú integralisti, molti dei quali sostengono nell'ordine:

-Interpretazione letterale della bibbia per quanto riguarda la creazione, cioé che la terra avrebbe 6000- 10.000 anni- non voglio entrare nel merito della questione evoluzione - creazione - ID, ma circa il 55% degli americani crede in questo secondo le statistiche piú recenti.

-Nessuna separazione fra chiesa e stato- con alcuni gruppi che si spingono a dire che solo a cristiani ed ebrei dovrebbe essere permesso di avere posti di governo.

Forse in Europa le nostre esperienze storiche ci hanno fatto capire quanto questa separazione sia indispensabile, anche per mantenere l'indipendenza della chiesa stessa.

I've had a chat with one of the retarded that claim the holocaust never happened.

I heard of people like that before, but I never actually spoke to one before. I heard his justifications and they were so historically and even logically wrong that my brain tried to shut itself down.

How can people like that still exist?

I know this is more of a rant than a question, but it really made me depressed.

There was so much ignorance and hatred in his words that I couldn't even manage to get angry: I was just saddened.

PS: my opinion on the matter might be a little biased since my grandfather (an Italian soldier) was detained during the war and told me how horrible it was (they had to hunt rats to eat. Enough said.)... And he was treated relatively well compared to the Jewish detainees.

So, anything to say? I really could use some comfort word.
