  • When I touch my USB microphone it receives AM radio signal?

I was receiving some complaints recently about a buzzing noise coming from my microphone.

It is a CAD u1 USB microphone. Nothing fancy, but not the best either.

While I was fiddling with it trying to fix the problem (which seemed to be caused by the slight vibration of my desktop CPU being picked up through the mic stand), I had turned the device on to listen mode so I could hear what I was adjusting.

Lo and behold, when I touched the microphone itself with my bare hand I heard a bit of noise which sounded like music... I put more of the palm of my hand against the microphone and the sound became quite clear, it was a radio signal!

Listening to it for a few minutes I found out it was an AM radio signal, specifically it was Radio Disney. OH GOD WHY.

I have never had any dental fillings, I do not have any screws or metal parts in my body. The signal seemed to continue regardless of what else I, or the microphone, was touching.

Does anyone have any idea what is causing this?

    Should I wear a tin hat? D:

  • Where can I buy a swastika charm that does not benefit a hate group?

I have decided to wear a swastika charm, either as a necklace or earring, to point out that the world's largest hate group wears and displays their symbols openly... symbols that are actual illustrations of a hate crime (the crucification of a jewish man). They have either been directly responsible for or quietly supportive of (as an organization, not as individual people) nearly every major hate movement in known human history.

The swastika itself is, ironically, a symbol of another of their own crimes. Spearheaded by thought that their indoctrination had supported if not created. It bastardized what had once been, truly, a symbol of good thought and peace.

I am not a white supremacist. I hold no particular racial bias against anyone Jewish, black, or otherwise. I am myself, as a non-heterosexual person, a fellow victim of several religious doctrines as well as the particular crimes of the Nazi and neo-Nazi movements.

I want somewhere to buy a swastika charm which does not support those causes. If anyone knows of one or has any suggestions as to how to make one myself I would love to hear.

  • Will an Android continue to access wifi if I cancel plan?

I have an Android phone (Motorola ATRIX) on an at&t phone and data plan. I have vague plans to be out of the country for 6-8 months next year and would prefer to use my phone only for wifi access. If I suspend my plan for the duration would I still be able to use my phone for internet as long as it is on wifi?

  • Internet running very slow on work network... maybe not router issue?

I've been having an issue for several months with having my work network disconnect or run very slow on my laptop at random but frequent intervals. The router has been replaced twice and I have AVG and Spybot which both say my system is clean. This happens ONLY on my work network and does not seem to affect all users, though I have had reports of similar issues from a few other people who use the network.

When I use Windows Diagnostics (Vista) to diagnose/repair the connection it almost always says that there is no problem with the connection. Every so often it will prompt me to turn off an incompatible TCP setting, which sometimes helps but generally doesn't.

We have contacted our ISP several times and they have said everything seems to be okay.

Is this a problem with the network itself, an incompatibility issue between some users and the network, or is it just me? What steps can I take to help figure out which it is?

  • Whenever I play a game in fullscreen, screen resolution changes?

Every time I play a game in fullscreen and exit out, my screen resolution changes whenever my laptop's screen turns on from my default setting (1366x768) to whatever dimension the game was in.

This happens when I power on after hibernate/sleep and when I open my laptop after closing it.

Even after setting the screen back to default through the Personalize screen it will continue to go back to the lower resolution every time the screen comes on until I restart my laptop.

It's really annoying! Is there some way to keep this from happening or do I have to keep resizing my screen all the time?

    OS: Vista 64 bit

    Laptop model: ASUS G50VT

    Games known to cause issue:

    Stepmania

    GTA: San Andreas

    Assassin's Creed

  • Needing serious sun protection! What to do?

I was at the beach this past weekend and was very good about applying a generous amount of my SPF50 sunblock every hour, and even wore a hoodie and long pants to cover up as much skin as possible. Despite these precautions I STILL was severely sunburned.

Obviously with my habits, I've long realized that I'm very sensitive to sunlight... but this is ridiculous! I'm supposedly doing all the right things but I still get burned. I do intend to talk to my doctor about this soon, but I'd like to know some things before I go in.

Are mineral sunblocks, the kind that turn your skin white, more effective? Does anyone have a product like that they recommend? (Note that higher SPF ratings don't make sunscreen THAT much more effective and actually carry a higher risk of allergic reaction or irritation, which are both concerns for my sensitive skin.)

Could this be a sign of an actual medical condition, has anyone heard of one which can cause such extreme photosensitivity?

Are there medications, or better yet, supplements or dietary options that can help skin be less sensitive to sunlight?

Thanks much for answering any/all of my questions!

  • Uh wow, HUGE amount of temp files... running CCleaner?

After running my first analysis on a laptop I've had for a year now, CCleaner says:

    ANALYSIS COMPLETE - (3610.851 secs)

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

21,217.3 MB to be removed. (Approximate size)

MOST of that is temp files... is it really safe to remove that much stuff? I have no idea how I managed to get so much junk on this thing.

  • Sweet pastries filled with meat?

Some time ago a guest at the hotel I work at tipped me with food... as a foodie, I was tickled pink. They were from the Los Angeles area and brought with them a bakery box full of these incredible pastries filled with a sweet meat filling. I suspected it to be some kind of empanadas but I'm honestly not sure. They were like nothing I'd ever had before or since.

Does anyone know what these pastries were?

Maybe even where they got them?

Do you know a good recipe for something similar?

    Thanks so much!

  • HELP! Getting kicked out of parents' house. Resources/advice?

I'm 18 and have been rather sheltered all my life. I have no idea how to go about getting a job or a place to live, as I had always been told my parents would take care of me so long as I stayed in school and got good grades, even now that I'm a freshman in college.

I flunked English last semester, and they just found out and told me I am to get a job and get out.

Now what I need is resources and advice (as in VERY DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS) about how to get a job (anything goes at this point) and a place to live, apartment being preferable but likely inaccessible for now.

Links to advice boards and any other resources would be much appreciated.

    Thanks!

  • StraightEdge peer pressure?

So I am involved with several message boards and chat groups, and almost every day there is talk of drugs and alcohol and such.

I'm straightedge, and very committed (if you don't know what it is, look it up) to staying that way, and whenever I'm asked what I'm drinking or popping when I'm in these places, or even in real life, I answer as such. People say I'm stupid not to try these things, when I honestly don't understand why someone would want to in the first place.

When I ask them why they don't stop doing these things, or push back with my own pressure, I'm called names and harassed. This happens almost every time.

So with this background, I ask: why is it okay for people to pressure others into doing drugs, but not okay to pressure them NOT to?

I'm not looking for a lecture on how to handle people, or to be told that it's none of my business.

I want REAL, WELL-THOUGHT answers, no matter what stance they support.

    Thank you.

  • How do I find my router's IP address on Vista?

I'm attempting to forward a port so utorrent will work properly, but I can't find my network IP address! I have a 2wire Homeportal 1000HG router, and I'm operating on Vista.

When I follow the walkthrough for forwarding my port, I get to the point where I'm supposed to enter my router's IP address into a web browser, but I don't know what mine is or how to find it.

  • Grand tattoo plans... what'll it cost me?

I'm turning 18 in 2 months, and I have been planning out my tattoos since I was in elementary school. I'm an artist, and very sure of my tastes, and quite certain that I do want these.

Now, though I'm not going to get these all at once, or even all of them at all, these are the tattoos I've chosen, in a possible chronological order...

    - SXE (about 3"x3" for each letter, lower back, black)

    - Flamel's Cross (about 3"x4", right shoulder, black)

    - The Nephilim Symbol (same, left shoulder, same)

    - Kanji "Kamihitoe" (3"x3" each character, navel, black)

    - Kanji for seven sins and virtues (covering most of each wrist to the elbow, black)

    - Butterfly (about 4"x4", upper right thigh, red/yellow/black)

    and, definitely lastly...

    - Wings (yup, the whole shebang down the back, pale blue/purple/yellow or somesuch)

So, what I want to know is about how much time and money I'm looking at for each of these.

  • I'm scared here. Help me out?

I'm a (total) virgin, but I'm afraid I have HPV. I think I've had it for several years, but it never even occurred to me that it was a disease. If anyone could answer any of these questions, it'd be really helpful.

How could I have contracted it? I thought it wasn't possible.

Are there any similar diseases that it could be?

How much treatment can I get as a minor without involving my parents or having available funds without them?

After I'm 18 in two months, will I have any options with the same requirements? I'm not sure when I'll have health insurance separate from my family.

I think I may have a tumor, but it isn't attached to the cervix. Could it still be cervical cancer?

    Thanks!

  • What kind of jobs can you get with a linguistics major?

I'm just starting college, and I plan on majoring in linguistics, and whenever I tell someone this, they ask me what I want to do with that. The embarrassing thing is that I'm not sure what I CAN do with it.

I live in Northern California, where there are a lot of languages spoken, and I'm learning Spanish, Japanese, German, and Latin. Is any of that going to be useful in the study itself?

  • Violist with an injury... could use some help?

I've got a few, actually... I'm falling apart!

First, and foremost, I have severe tendonitis in my left (fingering hand) wrist, and this makes it extremely painful to vibrate, but due to my personal beliefs (and the fact that it did not help much), I'm not willing to take aspirin or any other pain medicine for it.

Braces help, as well as ACE bandaging and the like, but it limits my range of motion and slows my fingers down, which is unacceptable, being in an internationally competitive high school symphony, as well as a university ensemble and professional quartet. Any suggestions on another method? How much am I damaging myself by not supporting it? Time til armageddon?

    Another....

On my right (bow hand) middle finger, just under the second joint, is an odd callous that developed recently. I have been playing with a baroque bow, and I suspect the new hold to be the cause. However, over the past week or so it has become painful, stinging when I touch or move it. Ideas?

  • My computer won't play large video files... HELP?!?

I've downloaded several anime episodes, but every time I go to watch them the program (WMP or Veoh) "Encounters a problem (or somesuch) and needs to close". I've even tried transfering the files to my laptop, but it does the same thing, sometimes just showing a blank green screen. Could this be a problem with my firewall?

Also, when I go to view the files (just the files, not the videos), Windows Explorer glitches up and closes.

  • Religion and interference, part 2?

  • Religion and interference?

I have seen so many "questions" on this site about people wanting justification for the beliefs of others. What I want to know is what makes anyone believe they have a right to tell someone else what to believe? Our beliefs may be a sin in your eyes, or they may be a stupid bunch of, as one recent question stated, "bull#@$", but why should you care what another believes? What gives anyone the idea that their way is the one way for everyone?
