  • Fitting a Glock Gen3 with a Gen4 dual recoil spring assembly?

Here's my problem. I want a Glock 29 10mm in the Gen 4 based on the positive reviews from the latest SHOT show. The reviewer said the Gen4 really softens the blow of the 10mm recoil so I wanted to go that route. Trouble is, I can't find one ANYWHERE. I have located a Gen3 G29 but I found it's grip to be too wide, so that would lead me to the G29 SF. So assuming I can't locate a G29 Gen4 could I fit a double recoil spring into a Gen3 G29 SF? Any issues with reliability if I go this route?

  • AR .308 barrel question 16 inches?

I was dead set on pickup up a DPMS .308 Recon last week until I spoke w/my father in law who is a shooter of the last 35 plus years and when it comes to guns, I listen to him. He asked what barrel length I was looking at and I said it had a 16 inch barrel. He advised against it and suggested a 20 inch barrel minimum. I did a bit of research and it appears he is very much correct, a longer barrel will produce more velocity due to powder burn time in the barrel. So I went back to DPMS's website and there really isn't a 20 inch offering in the same ballpark that has a quad rail, and adjustable stock, if you want 20 inches you have to get more of a target rifle. Here's where I sound a little nuts; yes it will be a target rifle...a device for pocking holes in paper for the most part, but ideally, I'd like this AR to be a do everything gun. With an adjustable stock, quad rail and fip up sights it's very much a carbine. With the flat top upper and heavy barrel it's very much an accurate rifle up to 1000 yards. So I want the best of both worlds and possibly even use it to hunt medium to large game, but I don't want to step up to the SASS or Sniper versions for almost double the money. Does anyone have experience shooting 500 to 1000 yards with a 16 barrel .308 especially in an AR platform? Any advice would be great. I know 20 inches is best, but will 16 be effective?

  • I need help deciding which vehicle to buy?

Hello, my wife and I have 3 kids and we are looking to get into a larger vehicle. We have narrowed our choices down to 2 but due to outside pressure from family we are re-thinking our decisions and I just wanted to come here for a bit of outside advice.

We currently have a 2009 Saturn Vue base model. We would like to trade it for either a new or used GMC Acadia AWD or used GMC Yukon XL. Now, some of you will jump all over me for even considering a "gas hog" like the Yukon XL but compared to the Acadia, the city mileage is only 1 mpg worse and the HWY is only 2 worse which would be negligible over the course of 1 year's gas costs. I like the idea of never having to worry about needing more cargo room with the XL and it seems like we need more all the time. If we got the Acadia I think we'd be happy but there WOULD be times when it wasn't big enough and I'd wish I would have just bought the XL, and I want to avoid that.

My father in law tells me that he thinks the XL would be hard to park and hard to get around in and he thinks the MPG estimates from the EPA are waaaaaaay low and we'd be lucky to get 15 mpg combined out of it. So he thinks we should just get a mini van like the Dodge Grand Caravan. My problem with that are, we already have a mini van, and we hate it. It gets horrible mileage, it's not big enough for our family of 5 if we have ANY luggage of any type because we have to travel with a stroller at all times. We have a rooftop cargo carrier that we mount to the top on long trips and I really want to get away from having to rely on this, especially considering the Yukon XL would get better mileage than our van.

    I've done the math on gas mileage and the XL would only cost about $145 more per year in gas than the Acadia and about $400 more than the Grand Caravan. So basically those are the costs for the added utility of the XL, which I'm ok with. So the only other questions that I haven't asked yet, are this;

Will the Yukon XL SLT have less depreciation costs over 5 years than a used Acadia AWD SLT1, same question with a brand new Acadia AWD SLT1? I know with 100% certainty that the Dodge Grand Caravan will have the highest depreciation costs over 5 years as mini vans just don't seem to hold their value well at all. Another consideration is interest charges. Obviously a new Acadia will have a lower interest rate than a used Acadia or XL, but I think once the depreciation is factored into that the interest cost is about a wash since the new vehicle will have a large depreciation hit.

So that's all of my assumptions....I've researched this to death and I can't seem to find a comparable vehicle that will seat 7 comfortably AND have ample storage, towing and 3rd row space. Feel free to give me any thoughts.

    Thanks

  • how to cool off my upstairs?

I have a 4BR 3200 sq foot home with 2 stories above ground, only 1 AC system for the whole house. The basement is ice cold, the ground level is nice and the upstairs is just too warm about 8 degrees warmer and stuffy...long story short, I've tried every possible thing to find a culprit, replaced filters, open all vents, heat exchanger and condensor are brand new. What I'm finding is the air returns upstairs won't even pull a piece of toilet paper against the grill, so my theory is that while cold air is pumping into the upstairs (albeit less powerful than downstairs) the warm air just isn't leaving the space. So this leads me to ask, is there a way to increase the air pressure of the system without doing any harm? In other words, is there a way to increase the blower speed, or is it safe to block the other return vents which are all on the main level (none in basement) in order to increase pressure and pull in warm air from the upstairs vents?

  • Should I adjust my Federal Withholds during bonus payout?

I'll try to make this simple and use rounded numbers so it's easier. For 2011 my income was $80,000, I anticipate earning a bit more during 2012, closer to 98 to 100k gross. I paid in over $7k in federal taxes in 2011 and my refund was $4000. I am being paid a bonus in March, anywhere from $4k to $12k but I think it will be more towards the $4k range. My company sent out a notice saying if we change our deductions we can have 0% taken for federal income tax. Otherwise it's a flat 25%. My question is this; should I adjust it so 0% is taken from my bonus and then my federal refund would essentially be reduced by a maximum of around $1000...probably less next year? Or am I missing something else? My tax situation should be exactly the same as 2011 for 2012. In other words am I correct in assuming that if I did have it taxed at 25% then my refund would potentially be that much larger next year...or I can just take 0% next month and have my refund reduced slightly next year?

  • Fantasy Football KR/PR help?

My league is a little different in that we get points for KR/PR just like a run or a pass, with yards = rushing or receiving, so if you have a return specialist that gets 100 yards per game you get 10 points. Same with TD's, 6 points. Only problem is that every year the top WR's are always return specialists. So guys like Danny Amedola, Percy Harvin, Jacoby Ford, Brad Smith, etc are more valuable than Andre Johnson and Roddy White. So the year before last I drafted Joshua Cribbs way too early and it was a huge bust. So I want to stay away from the KR/PR specialists but in the end they're worth their weight in gold because 5 to 6 of the 12 guys in our league forget about them during draft day, so that begs the question...how do I know who will get all of the KR/PR duties for their respective teams (Amendola) and how will the new Kickoff rule for 2011 season effect fantasy KR/PR values? How in the world can I draft Amendola near the first 2 to 5 rounds over White, Bowe, Jennings? Numbers don't lie, Amendola last year = 253.40 points vs White's 206.20. What would you do?

  • Payday loan company threatened me...I paid, but now I'm thinking of bringing a case against them?

I stupidly borrowed from a payday loan company in my town and I was unable to repay all of the debt. I tried working with the company but they wanted too much money. They then sold my debt to a 3rd party collector whom I contacted to try to make payment arrangements. They informed me they would need payment in full which was my amount borrowed plus a ton of interest, I think it was $1600. I asked if there were any possibilities of making payments on that amount and I was told that I would be pursued under a class 3 Misdemeanor for theft as the company believed I didn't have any intentions of paying the loan back. So they left me pay them in 3 payments and I considered it done with. Now I'm reading that under the Fair Debt Collection Act (Federal Law) that if these type of places threaten criminal action, they are in violation of Federal Law. They can bring a civil litigation but they cannot threaten Criminal, which this company did. So my question is this; Should I contact my state attorney general, a private lawyer, or who do I tell about this? Can I get any money from this company for them violating the law?

  • Which WR to start week 1?

12 team standard point league, but we count return yards and TD's the same as recieving yards...so should I start Johnny Knox or Dez Bryant as my #2 WR? No PPR, just staright up yards and return yards. Knox goes up against Detroit and Bryant goes up against Washington.

  • Which RB should I start?

I have 4 RB's on my team and have to start 2. It's a standard league but we count return yards the same as rushing or receptions. No PPR, just straight up yards and TD's...I have Jahvid Best (vs Bears), CJ Spiller (vs Dolphins) Jamal Charles (vs Chargers) and LaDanian Tomlinson (vs Ravens). My gut tells me to start Best and Charles but Spiller was just named the #1 back. If he returns any kicks or punts that would be money in the bank for me, but I have no clue if they're allowing their #1 RB to return...what sayeth you?

  • House AC runs constantly and won't cool below 76 degrees on a hot day?

Over the past few weeks I've been monitoring my home's central AC performance. I live in Northern VA and it's been getting up into the mid to upper 90's, humidity is high etc...most days our AC can keep the house at about 74 but it runs all day and usually turns off around 11 or 12 pm and then when I wake up it's usually back running at 8 or 9 a.m.

We've had the ducts cleaned, the blower cleaned, the heat exchanger cleaned, I've replaced all filters, and cleaned the condensor outside. So my only conclusion is that the Refridgerant must be low and/or leaking. When I touch the supply/return lines, the small line is warmer than the big line. Neither line is frosted over, but the big line isn't what I would call cold...is it safe to assume that my unit will need re-charging? We have a 3 story townhouse, about 2200 square feet, 10 years old. The duct cleaning/blower cleaning helped immensely. The unit is moving air 100% more since this was done but the cooling capacity just isn't there...we've only lived here for 1 year and the AC is always constantly running in the summer. I've checked every other culprit and I think it must be the refridgerant. Sound logic?

When it's not as hot out, the unit still runs pretty much all day, but it will stay at 74 or 75 and eventually turn off when it gets to 73 or 74...just thought I'd throw that in there.

  • BMW E46, buying used?

I'm contemplating purchasing a 99 to 2002 3 series sedan. In my price range, the miles are going to be upwards of 120k at least...from what I've ready, the major maintenance chores w/these cars are water pumps, timing belt, control arms, overflow tank, and window actuators....assuming I can do most of this myself (I've worked on cars quite a bit...) how much "trouble" am I getting into by buying one of these model years with this many miles?

  • Which TE Should I start week 1?

Kevin Boss vs. the Redskins or Visanthe Shiancoe vs. the Browns...I dont expect either to put up huge numbers, I know Favre loves his TE's and I also think Eli won't have many deep threats this year so the TE for the Giants may be a sleeper this year....either way I know the points won't really come piling on from the TE position but every little bit helps...

  • Who should start week 1?

I need 2 RB's out of these 5 - Portis, Ronnie Brown, Chris Johnson, Addai, and Felix Jones...I'm going to start Brown, I was thinking Johnson but he's going up agaist the Steelers so I doubt he'll cook them for more than 50 yards, Felix Jones could have a field day but I don't know if he'll be featured this early in the season, Portis is up against the Giants, so he could have a good day or a bad day, what do you guys think?

i've got the rest of my starters ready to go, just need advice on the RB's.

    Thanks,

  • Cooling the 3rd floor in high humidity area...have an idea?

Ok, I've researched this problem ad noseum...I live in VA where today it's in the 90's with 50%+ humidity...it's freakin hot. So our townhome's basement is icey cold and the top (3rd) floor is always hot. We put heavy drapes up to block all light and heat from entering our bedroom and it's still a lot warmer up there. I know the best way would be to either boost the Central Air's fan to reach the upper levels of the house, or install an attic fan to blow hot air out of the top floor, but I'm renting and I don't want to pay for these costly upgrades...so I had an idea....

What if I blocked all of the return vents in the 3rd floor so the only air entering the HVAC system was the bottom floor's cold air? Would that burn out the air handler? Would that then distribute the cold air upstairs? Or what about the reverse? What if I blocked the downstairs vents so the only air returning to the handling unit was the hotter air?

Looking for any help on this as our AC is running almost non stop in this high heat.

  • file transfer from old internal hard drive to new laptop...slight twist?

I donated my old desktop to a family member and removed my hard drive and swapped in thier hard drive....my question is how do I get my files off of my old internal drive, which is now external, onto my laptop? In other words, I need a cable that would provide the data and power to an internal drive and get it to a USB or similar source so I can move files onto my laptop without removing the laptop drive.

Anyone know if they make a cable that does this?

  • Really tough question about daycare backup...?

Here's my issue...my wife works retail and doesn't have any vacation built up, so when one of my children is sick it's always me who stays home w/them. Our family can't help out because we live too far away. We just moved so we don't have a lot of choices for backups, and the choices we do have work during the day and it's not like they can just as easily take a day off to help us out. Our daycare won't take sick kids, so what should I do? I'd have to find someone who doesn't work during the day or go to school that doesn't cost a fortune.

The whole reason I ask is that we've had a lot of illness at our house and my work is suffering and my boss is clearly not loving me right now.

I can work from home, but every time I've ever asked it's denied for some reason or another...basically you have to be favored or be the pet of the group to get special treatment like that.

So what's a working dad to do?

  • Business or bank that will pay your bills for you?

Does anyone know of a business or a bank that will set up your monthly expenses and pay these for you?

My wife and I are terrible with money. If I could set up an account to only receive funds from our paychecks for the exact amounts of our fixed costs and have someone or some company pay all of nescessary bills monthly and they could charge a fee, I think we'd be a lot better off.

I know the easy answer is to get better about money. We basically just moved to a new house and got off on the wrong foot and now we're just playing catch-up every 2 weeks w/our bank. I want to get to a point where one bank account is only for our fixed costs, another account is our savings and a 3rd account is our discressionary funds that we can spend on entertainment, food, etc.

Anyone have any ideas or know of a business that does this for people?

    Thanks

  • How shocked are you at oil and gas prices?

I never thought I would live to see $1.99 a gallon gas ever again, but I'm betting by early next year that's what we'll see. Gas in my city is $2.25 a gallon now and oil just sank to $63 a barrel. We haven't seen this low of price since post Katrina recovery. Obviously this is only a temporary downturn but I'll take it while it lasts.

And another good timing part of the economy, is crop prices are still relatively high, which is good for farmers as the fuel drop will reduce food prices, fertilizer prices for next year's crops, etc. So I think all the cash being pumped into the ag economy today will keep us out of a recession in the short run.
