  • Who regulates stores that sell bulk propane?

The place I work for started filling propane tanks for customers. We have a huge above ground storage tank with a pump. A customer with say an RV that has a propane tank pulls up to our bulk storage and we fill the RV tank. What they do is have us watch someone do it once or twice then we are considered "trained" to do the job.

Don't we need to be certified to do this? Anyone have any idea who to report this to? Basically, people who report their employer for safety violations get fired and get a bad name in town and I've been told it's unlikely anything would be done anyhow.

It's a riot because first they pay you a small wage, then they pull you off of another area to do this job because it's cheaper for the company and they have 6 of us who do it now, so customers can fill with propane anytime the business is open. Their proplem is they don't want to pay for formal training for each employee plus they would have to pay wages while we took the course and they won't do that.

I really need to know if I should report this and to who. Reporting the matter to a supervisor has been tried and just gets us yelled at.

  • Customer faxed me a nasty photo, is it illegal?

I run a small business and part of my business repairs small engines. A customer brought in his boat for repair, the repair was finished but the bill was kind of steep. Anyhow, he wanted his boat for this weekend but we wouldn't let him take it until the bill is paid.

A bit ago someone defecated in a toilet and faxed me a photo of the poo poo. They sent it from an online fax service but they enclosed a note "here's your payment" so we know exactly who did it. Is this something illegal that should be turned over to the police or would it be best to just discard the fax.

  • If I apply for a credit card for college students when I'm not it college, what would happen?

What happens if someone who isn't a college student applies for a credit card for college students? Would the credit card company catch it and cancel the card? I'm out of college but I got a pre-approval for a Capital One Journey card for students. I'm impressed because it doesn't have an annual fee, it has 1% cash back with a 25% bonus every month you pay your bill on time, plus it has stuff like extended warranty, purchase protection, travel insurance, etc.

It appears I'm really supposed to get one of their cards with an annual fee, but I'm not at all impressed by those since one has a $19 annual fee and no rewards where this has no annual fee plus it give rewards. I looked the pre-approved application over and it doesn't ask for any college information, but would it be an implied lie to fill out the application since the enclosed letter assumes I'm a current college student?

Would they catch the fact that I'm not a college student when they check my credit or would they catch up with it later and cancel the card without notice? The deal is, Capital One's Journey card for college students appears to be a much better deal than either the Platinum or Cash rewards cards.

  • It it okay to use a UPS Store address on a job application to make you "look" local?

I live in a small town and I've been trying to get a job in a bigger city. I've just been turned down for several jobs because they said I lived too far away. My plan is to find a place to stay close to my job if I get it. Would it be wrong to use a box at the UPS Store for my current address? It would look like I have a street address in town and they wouldn't know I didn't live there unless they googled it.

This is just to get the job, then if I get hired, I would just update my address with them to a place I'm actually living at. One place I applied to said they didn't feel comfortable hiring someone who was staying in a motel, because that's usually a very bad sign. Because I live a distance from that town, I have to stay someplace when I'm in town but I'm not sure what I should tell employers. Before you suggest I should get a job in the town I live in, there's just plain nothing here. I filled out over 200 applications and don't even get an interview. At least applying in other towns, I've had several interviews.

  • can I still deduct miles from a business appointment where the client didn't show?

When using my personal vehicle to conduct business (I own the business) I've already determined driving from my office to the location I plan to do business is deductible. I have log sheets that I fill out with my starting mileage, ending mileage, date/time depart and return and purpose of the trip. I have a tax guy who looks over my mileage and determines if it's allowed or not. Normally he doesn't find mistakes, but he charges up the ying yang to go over everything and recalculate my deductions.

Today I was supposed to meet with a client in a restaurant, the mileage there was supposed to be deductible and the meal was supposed to be deductible, I already asked. The problem is my client called after I got to the meeting place to tell me he couldn't make it. Since I was not able to conduct the intended business, I can no longer deduct this mileage, correct? Would the correct procedure be just to cross it off on my mileage log? I want to make sure when my mileage gets reviewed it doesn't get added back in by mistake.

I've just been doing this business part time on the side, so I've been trying to keep my deductions down as low as possible.

  • Does a business credit card help a small business build it's own credit?

I started my own little business and my bank, Wells Fargo, suggested that I get a business credit card to purchase my supplies. What they told me is they would have to check my personal credit and I would be responsible for the bill.

If I get the credit card, will my small business establish it's own credit? I have an EIN but I work at this by myself. Since I will have to sign the application, will my business payment history show up on my personal credit reports? Would a future lender see this as credit for me personally or credit for my business?

Wells Fargo suggested I get the Platinum business card with no annual fee. The no annual fee version doesn't have any rewards, but the lack of rewards makes things less complicated and the purpose is to establish credit. I already have 2 personal credit cards so I really don't need another card for building personal credit.

  • Can I remove a home security system that was installed by a professional installer?

I had professional installation of a home security system about 2 weeks ago. They didn't explain anything very well before they went and did it, then they didn't follow my instructions at all, they just plain ignored me and did what they wanted. First I wanted the main panel installed in a closet out of sight, but they said I didn't get a remote keypad so they had to install it by a door. I had to leave for a bit while they were doing it and when I came back, the panel was mounted by the front door. Total idiots! I have an older type double door on the front which latches and hooks from the inside. There is no way in from the outside through the front door unless you break the door down. I have an attached garage and the back door to the house is inside the garage, so they programmed the thing so I only have 20 seconds from the time I open the walk in door on the garage, get in the back door of the house and run across the house to my panel to punch in the code. Yesterday my phone ran as I entered my back door, I answered the phone told them to hold and punched in my code 5 seconds too late. Since I was on the phone and don't have call waiting, the alarm company couldn't call me, they got a busy and this resulted in the police being called. D**** cellular backup!

Today I went in the basement and there's this metal box on the wall, they never said they were going to have to install a metal box and I certainly don't want it where they put it. My papers say I have a 30 day satisfaction warranty and if I call within 30 days, I can return the equipment no questions asked. What they told me on the phone is they made a deal with me that they would install a free alarm system if I let them put a sign in my yard so they were very disappointed in my decision and I should not have left while the installers were there, but it couldn't be helped. I got sensors on each entrance door and every window, but only one motion sensor which the put guarding the sairway and no smoke alarms.

The guy I spoke with said an installer couldn't come out for at least another week but they would only make some adjustments to the installation to see if I would be more satisfied but I would have to pay the service call fee. I told him I was taking their sign away because I didn't want any neighbors to make the same mistake and he repeated the deal was they get to put their sign in my yard and in exchange I got a free system.

What I couldn't get them to understand, their metal box is in my way and I need it moved like now. What would happen if I just cut the wires, and put everything in a box for them? I unplugged the phone line and now it's just using the cellular module so we'll see what happens by tomorrow. I unplugged my phone too so they can't call me and they don't have my work cell number which is the only phone I have one. I took away their stupid sign and replaced it with a similar shape sign I got on eBay that reads "protected by 2nd amendment" also there's a picture of a shotgun on it.

Do I have to wait for them to remove the equipment now or how much trouble would I be in if I did it myself?

  • What can a scammer really do if the get the routing and account number for my checking account?

Employers need a checking account number for direct deposit. Many utility companies and subscription services require a routing number and account number so the bank will pay them directly. Your account number is on every check you write. This information isn't protected by merchants like credit card information, any employee at the local store could look at my check and get my account number.

Somehow, someone got the routing number and account number for my Amex Bluebird card, this is the account number used only for direct deposit, not the number on the front of the card. They made counterfeit checks with my business name & address. The bank name printed on the checks was "American Express Centurian Bank". The routing number and account number were that of my Bluebird card for direct deposit.

American Express assures me this this account number can only be used to put money in my account, there's no way to use it to take money back out. They said only their offical Bluebird checks can be used with that account and they have a different account number plus they require per-authorization. They said any of these checks received would be immediately rejected by them and returned as an unpaid item.

I've now had several calls from people who received them, they've been mailed from all over the United States, one person scanned theirs and emailed it to me and a couple others dropped theirs in a mailbox to send to me. One I know of was written for $20,000 one was written for $5,000 and one for $8,000. When I tried to talk with my local bank about it they said 1. I shouldn't have got the Bluebird card in the first place, there's no reason for it. 2. It's my duty to guard my account numbers so this is clearly a case of neglegence on my part. 3. I would have to prove that I did not print the checks myself. It appears the checks were printed with standard check printing software and an ink jet printer. The bank figures they printed at least 100 of these checks hoping at least a couple people would be folish enough to cash them then wire the money overseas via western union.

It's been reported several different ways, but nobody acts like they really care or give a crap and nobody takes it seriously. I'm worried now if these scammers can get such secret information about me what else can they get? I was told they could clean out my checking account if they get the account number and there's nothing I could do about it. How could I protect myself from this happening in the future? Will they hold me responsible now if it happens locally because now they have proof that I know it was happening?

  • Why don't we blame the bomb instead of the bomer?

Why is it when there's a school shooting, guns get blamed, but when a bomb goes off we blame the person(s) responsible? I don't see a line of people in Boston waiting to turn in their pressure cookers!

  • Is Obama the best gun sales person ever?

The day after he went on national televison talking about tighter gun regulations, all the shelves were picked clean! All the ammo was sold out and there's still a waiting list for some models. I've seen people buy the whole shipment of ammo when it came in and pay a premium price. Ammo makers love this guy, nobody has ever moved as much product in as short of time as he did. Hats off to Obama!

  • Would it be sufficient to re-install Windows7? Or do I need to destroy the hard drive?

A prank contest got out of hand and my friend went too far. She got into my computer when I wasn't around with the intention of changing some settings, but then she found a notebook beside my computer. I think I've forgotten every password I ever created and I've had to call in to reset my online banking dozens of times, so I started writing everything down in a notebook. She got into my email, found something from a scammer and started communicating with them. She gave them one of my private email addresses, gave them my home address, gave them my work phone and personal cell phone and I'm still finding out stuff. I couldn't figure out why I received several packages I didn't order and it turns out she told them I would be happy to re-ship stuff for them and requested they send a shipment of iPads. I got all the stuff sent back and I started getting emails from the same scammer on several different email accounts, they called several different phones and even tried to contact me on Yahoo Messenger.

Now I just find out she found my account number for my Amex Bluebird prepaid card. What I had printed out was the routing number and account number for an employer direct deposit. When I called Amex, they said the account number was a one way street, someone could put money in my account but they wouldn't allow money to be taken out. I've already tested the theory with my Paypal account, I was able to use my direct deposit routing number and account number from my Bluebird card to send money to my Bluebird from my Paypal account. I was unable to do the reverse and send a payment from my Bluebird account through my Paypal account. It appears they sent me a small test deposit and possibly gave up after that. What's worse, she carried on a conversation with these people pretending to be me and agreeing to send out counterfeit checks. I was then sent a whole list of people the scammers wanted me to send checks to.

My friend said if I called the police, they would search my computer and find I've communicated with the scammers, requested iPads and given them my account info to get paid. She said I would be held responsible since it's my computer and internet then I would have to prove it was her who did it and I can't. I've already told my friend we are no longer friends and unfriended my friend on facebook. My friend told me she was going to call the police and tell them she saw me talking to these scammers on my computer.

I know it was my fault, I was sloppy and careless, but I need to know how I can fix this. What would happen if I re-installed my OS on my computer? I have Windows7. Would it help to run any kind of file shredder? Would it be better to just get a new hard drive? I've already deleted everything in my email account and changed it to a new account.

  • Is it too late to refuse a package from UPS once someone at my residence signs for it?

If packages I didn't order are sent to my address and someone signs for them, is it too late to get UPS to take them back and return to sender? I live 50 miles from the distribution center and I'm not about to drive there every time this crap happens. The packages are addressed to me, but I didn't order them. Some are big and very heavy. Another package was just left today and someone signed for it without thinking. I now have a total of 6 large packages I didn't order. I don't care about getting credited for a return, I just want someone to take them away!

  • Multiple boxes left by UPS, all stuff I didn't order. What do I do with the stuff?

While I was on vacation, UPS delivered a package for me which they left with the neighbors and the neighbors signed for. They've done this before and I'm okay with it. The problem is, when I came back I had 5 very large packages, ranging in weight from 30# to 50#. The return address was: The North American Publishing Co.; 1231 Circle D; Suite 563; Atlanta, GA. Upon opening the packages, they were filling with copies of a book, I'm going to guess they sent me at least 200 copies of this book. I found a slip inside one of the packages with an 800# so I promptly called it because I had not ordered or requested any books. The guy apologised for the error and said they would be sending me some return shipping labels to send them back.

Two days later a get an express mail envelope delivered via USPS with a check for $10,000 from GE Consumer Finance with a letter explaining I should cash the check then promptly take the packages to the nearest UPS Store for shipping. Get this, my instructions were to send all 5 packages to Nigeria. I promptly called GE Consumer Finance via a contact number I found online and they said the check was counterfeit and not to cash it. They said someone had got their account and routing number and had counterfeit checks printed, but the address was incorrect.

Upon further investigation we found there is a North American Publishing Co.; 1500 Spring Garden Street, 12th Floor • Philadelphia, PA 19130 USA • (215) 238-5300 when I called them they said they did not send me any books and will not pay to have the books shipped to them. When I called the number back that was in the package, I get "the number you have dialed is no longer in service".

While all this is going on, the neighbors come over with another 50# box addressed to me that they had signed for and delivered via UPS. Get this, UPS said since the package was signed for, their driver won't come back to pick it up, but if I want to try to refuse it, I need to jump in my car and drive 50 miles to their distribution center and I must do this within 5 days of receiving the package. Saturday will be day 6, but it's the day I have free and nobody is paying my gas to run it over there so I'm just going to leave it on the counter whether they want it or not, that's exactly what they did to me.

I have informed UPS in writing not to leave packages requiring a signature with anyone else, that way if they leave it without a signature, they have to come back and get it if I refuse it. It's going to totally piss them off when they try to deliver 10 heavy boxes and I refuse the entire shipment.

My question is, what do I do with the boxes full of books that I opened? I don't have storage space and they are in the way. Would I be okay to remove the shipping label and give them to Good Will? Should I demand UPS take them since they left them for me? I already talked to a police officer and he said it appeared the address the packages were shipped from did not exist, somebody just made it up and the tracking numbers showed they were shipped from Vermont. He said the local police would not likely be interested in several boxes of books and it's possible an unsuspecting person got conned into forwarding the packages so any attempt to tracing it would only go back to the unsuspecting person. In other words, they won't just take the books unless they turn up stolen or something or unless I find something other than books in the boxes.

I just love the idea of dropping them all off at the UPS office and letting them deal with the mess. They can then put the packages in their trash can, donate them or whatever they feel like.

  • Would you accept a job selling cable TV door to door?

I applied for a Major Accounts job (selling to and upgrading business users) with a local company that provides cable tv, internet and telephone service. They said I didn't have the sales experience they were looking for but they would be willing to start me out in residential outside sales then see how it goes. The job would pay base plus commission - the benifiets package they offered was totally amazing. Health and dental insurance, retirement plan, paid holidays, vacation days available after 6 months. To top it off I get complementary basic cable, internet and phone - all free.

One thing they said was their installers wire the house, but then I have to take the customer their equipment, set it up and sell the package. They tried to avoid the question, but if I get commission, doesn't than mean I have to go down the street knocking on doors? They told me my annual pay had the potential to be in the six digits and that throws up a red flag.

Are there really that many residential customers who would want to sign up for services, switch or upgrade that I could make any money at this? Also this position hasn't been filled since Nov. 1, 2012, so I kind of get the feeling nobody wants to do it. How I feel about it, I'd rather deliver pizzas for mininum wage then randomly knock on doors hoping to get a commission.

I had a friend say they couldn't expect me to go door to door because nobody does that anymore. Does anyone know if they even have reps from the cable tv companies that go door to door? I'm tring to decide if I even want to bother with the second interview or not.

  • Does Gimp make a good professional photo editor?

I've been looking at Linux Mint 14 and it looks like Linux Mint just keeps getting better. I like it better than windows for some things. I started playing with Gimp and was wondering if Gimp which is free would be good for professional photo editing. Many of the courses I've taken use PhotoShop but it's kind of expensive for a new photographer just starting out, so I was curious if Gimp would be okay to use until I get a good start.

I had an instructor tell me Gimp was more of an amateur editor and wanted to see if that was true. I'm going to have to use money earned from another job to buy a camera to get me started. I want to get a higher end camera with some good glass, so I'm looking for areas where I can save money. My main thing is I want to make sure people take me seriously as a professional.
