  • Should illegal immigrant children receive in state tuition to attend college?

Now I only support this if they came here before 16, have a clean criminal record (no felonies), have graduated HS or in school or have served in the military. NOt anyone else, no one who came here as an adult---but I don't think it is fair to blame children for the actions of their parents, they didn't know the US laws, also we don't punish juvenille offenders the same as adults, that is simply wrong.

But the answer is yes, pass the Dream Act.

  • Is the belief of "life begins at conception" just a point of view?

It may be what the Catholic Church believes in but the USC is not based on the Catholic Church or the Pope, or any ecclesiastical body because under the First Amendment Congress cannot endorse or advance one religion---Ten Commandments in front of a state capital is most obviously the government advancing and endorsing one religion. Life beginning at conception is a religious and political point of view that right-wing ideologues hold (which they have every right to), but don't force your views on others, it isn't based on clear and objective scientific facts. If you don't like abortion one doesn't have to have one, but one should be tolerant of people having a different POV and value system and not be judgemental and arrogant. I personally don't believe life beings at conception and Im very pro-choice and would never tell any woman to not have an abortion, and neither would my mother.

  • Is the main function of prison/jail to rehabilitate people?

I mean correctional facility means to "correct" people--yes of course there is the punishment aspect, however we know most people will be out so let's try to make people better and rehabilitate. The USA has the most punitive justice system in the industrialized world with the most prisoners in the world and has the highest violent crime rate in the industrialized world--go figure.

  • Why do some people hate muslims so much?

I am a muslim American man so is my dad and we are good people. Im tired of hearing all this ant-muslim bigotry and virulence and outright lies being told. It's highly offensive and I would please ask people to stop.

  • Isn't the main function of prison to rehabilitate people?

Isn't the root word of corrections to "correct". Yes so is punishment and keeping dangerous people away from society at large. Shouldn't we mete out anti social behavior and anti social acts with pro social acts. Im not saying rehabilitation means letting people out way too early. I believe and adult over 18 who commits first degree murder should be in prison for at least 25-30 years before given a chance at parole. And only the Absolute best of inmates are paroled in that minimum time. Research shows inmates with extensive family contact and support rehabilitate the best.

  • Isn't the death Penalty simply vengeance?

Vengeance is not something that moral, advanced, free, democratic societies should condone. And I do believe countries like: Iran, Saudi Arabia, China and USA are socially and morally backwards, and about 85-90 percent of all executions in the USA are in the old confederate South--which by far has the highest crime rate and the highest per capita homicide rate. Also think about the families of perpetrators of crime--they suffer just as much as family members of victims do. They don't want their loved one's to die--it can be another mother, father, brother, son, daughter having to watch their loved one die. And think about people like Antoinette Bosco--her son and daughter in law were both murdered in their home by an 18 year old kid, but still she never sought the DP and she has written a book against the DP. He was sentenced to 220 years with no possibilty of parole until age 60. Bosco has compassion and forgiveness and all should have the same. Family members of perpetrators suffer JUST AS much as family members of victims.

  • Do family members of perpetrators of crime suffer just as much as victims?

I believe they absoutley do. And Is one of many reasons why I oppose the death penalty. DP is nothing but vengeance-plain and simple. And vengeance is not something any advanced moral and ethical society should condone. I do believe the worst of criminals should spend the rest of their lives in a crooectional facility, but DP is never justified. Think about it every murder prolly has a mother, father, wife, husband, child, etc who loves them and doesn't want them to die. Just another dead human being and another grieving family.

  • Would John Lennon forgive Mark David Chapman?

Just a though--as Lennon was the ultimate man or peace, love, and forgiveness. Doesn't mean I want him paroled (which I really doubt he ever will). I'm a huge Lennon fan and his death is sad but at the same time I wish no evil or vengeance against Chapman. I think people who send him death threats in prison are not only wrong--but go against everything Lennon was.

  • What is the problem with civilian trials?

There are already 400 plus convicted terrorists in federal maximum security prisons. Such as: Ramzi Yousef, John Walker Lindh, padilla, Moussaoui, Terry Nichols, Richard Reid, Faisal Shahzad, and a litany of others. Civilian trials are germaine with our Constitution, military commissions are unconstitutional, violate US law and the Geneva Conventions. I though we believe that everyone is innocent until a guilty verdict is read or a defendant pleads guilty. And another great American value is we rather have 10 guilty people go free than to have 1 Innocent person in prison. We assume innocent and unless there is evidence beyond any reasonable doubt we acquit, that's the way the US justice system works. What about the Tipton Three, three british muslims who were tortured, beaten and held in gitmo for 3-4 years without trials or charges until being released because they were innocent. And as a muslim myself, i can say with absolute certaintly that Bush administration policies lead to more terrorism, more resentment and anger and more crime.

  • Why do people not want convicted terrorists in US federal prisons?

I mean there are already 400 plus convicted terrorists there and serving life sentences. THere is no rational reason to keep Guantanamo Bay open. Federal prison system is just fine.

  • What are your predictions for USA vs Slovenia?

My prediction USA 2-0, or maybe 3-0. Slovenia played even with a lesser opponent of Algeria the entire game. THey scored while being up a man on a shot that Tim Howard Absolutely would have saved, Im am not overlooking Slovenia, they are solid and are in the WC for a reason. But I cannot see anyone who is intellectually honest saying Slovenia has a great chance of winning. It would be a huge upset if Slovenia win or draw. And if USA could tie (could have won if not for a great save) England they certainly can beat Slovenia.

  • Why are people lying about the costs of the energy bill that just passed the House?

The Non-Partisan CBO says 175 dollars more per year in 2020 and EPA at 80 dollars to 110 a year and the costs will be offset by tax rebates and credits. 175 dollars a year is about 50 cents a day. A cap and trade system was put in place in 1990 Clean Air ACt to reduce sulfur dioxide emissions which was successful and was signed by President George H.W. Bush. Investing in clean energy, having more energy efficient buildings and green jobs and reducing CO2 emissions.

  • What do people think of this FDA tobacco regulation bill in Congress?

I am very much a social libertarian who favors as little government as possible in our private lives so long as those actions aren't harming other people. I oppose making cigarettes or cigars illegal but I have no problem with more regulation. I believe cigarettes and marijuana should be legalized, but regulated and taxed.

  • How can conservatives think that small cuts in missile defense will threaten America when...?

    a) US already spends more than any other nation on planet Earth combined on defense and military. Even 1 Trillion adding all defense related spending. US is a far greater threat to the rest of the world than any other country.

    b) The Obama 2010 budget actually INCREASES spendnig by the defense department by 21 billion dollars.

    c) THese cuts were made by Secretary Gates, a Bush Republican appointee.

    d) US has hundreds of military bases all around the globe.

    e) I would rather spend money on things like nationized health care, education, energy, veterans, worker's rights, social safety net than unnecessary wasteful defense spendnig. I would rather spend tax money on programs that will actually help millions of Americans than money for destruction.
