I'm not really a regular on here, Just so you know. I live on a farm. I have an APHA mare, but I do not have her papers. She's an appendix, and her lines go back to Man O War and Seabiscuit. I'm in the process of purchasing an APHA yearling filly. I also have a duck and chickens. We are looking for a female duck for our drake. I ride western, but I am not the best. I hope to be much better in the future. I also love reading and listening to music. My favorite bands are: Alice In Chains, Misfits, Creed. I usually read Animal Fiction, and the bigger the better. Have a good day!

  • Bad Experience Selling/Buying a Horse?

So I'm selling my gelding. A couple came to check him out. They live approx. 4 hours South and they don't usually come up to my town. Everything was going great, the guy loved him and we agreed to sell the horse.

W still had to get him in the trailer. I've only had him for 1 year and the only time we saw him load was when we first got him. He walked right in, but that was a big stock trailer.

This guy had a small, 3 horse trailer with the space for tack in the back. The space for the horse to get in was only about 3 1/2 feet wide give or take. Even with the windows open it was dark.

My horse gets nervous around new things (I said this on the ad) and you need to give him time to decide if he feels safe or not. He was just checking the trailer out, and the people started forcing him. He's the kind of horse where if you force him when he's not ready he gets real stubborn and just won't do it. The people tried everything. He reared up many times (and he's a big guy) and was soaked with sweat by the end.

I feel really bad for letting them do that, but I don't know what I could have done. I'm not very experienced and this guy was like an old cowboy, stubborn and thought he knew everything.

So anyways, they left without him.

I just want to know what I should do to avoid a situation like this again, and if you have ever had a bad experience selling or buying a horse. (I know this wasn't too bad, but it was still frustrating.)

    Thanks!

Should this Horse Have Been Gelded?

On the local Horse buy and sell page on facebook, someone was selling this beauty.

I was really surprised to see that they decided to geld him! Such a beautiful horse I think would have made a great stud!

    This is his description:

"Fellas Double Trouble (Aka Sheldon) Huge 14.3 hh, 2013 golden palomino gelding, snow white mane and tail, blaze face with four socks. All the chrome in the world. APHA/AQHA papers by BS Dial Mea Yella Fella out of a Noble Tradition granddaughter. Professionally trained since weaning. Upt on everything. Extremely athletic, long stride (video upon request.) Located in Airdrie Alberta. Transportation can be arranged. This colt has already been shown twice as a yearling by a youth. Two class wins. Asking for 3500."

I do think they are asking too much for him. Around here, registered weanlings and yearlings are usually $650-$1000. I understand he's got an impressive pedigree and seems to be an awesome prospect and they have shown him, but I could buy a young, extremely well broke, and registered mare that I could breed for that price.

I don't see why anyone would worry about having a registered gelding. I mean you can't breed them for their bloodline, so I don't see the point unless you're showing them. I'm selling my paint gelding and a lot of people are asking about papers. He's just a trail riding horse so I don't see why they would be worried about that!

    Anyways, what is your opinion?

  • Why is my cat like this?

My cat is 15 years old and I have had him since he was a kitten. He has always been my cat and we grew up together. I was a toddler when we got him. For as long as I can remember, my cat has always been very attached to me. Whenever I hold him, he sort of hugs me and rubs his head on me. When I make meowing noises, he will always meow back. He follows me around the house and outside. When I take him to bed, he has to be able to see my face. He will sit on my head! I can't put him by my feet or even by my stomach because he will always crawl up to my face.

Sometimes I don't understand why we are so close. My dad also spent a lot of time with him, but for some reason he likes me the most. For the most part, he is a farm cat. Sometimes, he will be gone for a couple days. He brings mice home, and he used to come home from getting in fights with other cats. I don't spend 24/7 with him either. If I'm really busy and he's off hunting, I may not get to see him for a week. But he always come home to see me.

So, my question is why is my cat so attached to me likes this?

  • What is this lump on my horse?

I found a lump on the inside of my gelding's hind leg, pretty high up. It has the circumference of my thumb, and it sticks out about 3 cm from his skin. I felt it, and it doesn't seem to cause him any pain. It is a sort of hard, and it feels like it is just on the skin and not any deeper. I am not sure if it is filled with fluid or not. It's the color of his leg, not red or anything.

Sorry if my description is hard to understand but i don't have any pictures.

I'm just wondering what this is and if I should be worried about his health or not. Thanks!

  • Having Trouble Bonding With My Horse?

Last November, my mare passed away. I was very upset, and told myself it was my fault. I didn't want to get another horse. However, my friends and family convinced me I should get another horse. In the spring, I decided not to give up on horses and bought a beautiful paint gelding.

He's nice to ride and everything, but he'll never be like my mare. I used to be so nervous on horses, but she boosted my confidence. I could do anything with her. I'd gallop around the field, race my friends home, I would even jump over small logs ( we were both trained for western) I felt so confident on her. With more time, I could have become more experienced on her. I was only a beginner, and still am, but I was so happy, so confident. It wasn't always like that. When we first got her, she didn't like riding and wouldn't neck rein, since she's been a brood are for a few years. We worked with her and she became the best horse we had.

Now, I have my gelding. He's a nice horse, but I can't seem to connect with him. When I ride him, I know he hates it. I get nervous on him, because I know he would and could buck me off, or take off on me. Last time I rode him, he laid down while I was riding him just because he didn't want to ride. He's not lame or anything. He also spooks very easily. If it's windy, you can't go by him or he freaks out.

I used to be so confident, now I feel like I've never owned a horse. Sometimes I believe my horse hates me, but I know if I bonded with him I could ride him with confidence. I think I'm scared to bond with him, scared I'll get attached, then he will pass away or leave me somehow. I lost my dog of 12 years, and I turned to my mare. She gave me comfort. Then she passed, and I went to my other dog. Then he disappeared. I'm scared to lose anything else, so I haven't really bonded with my gelding. I'm not sure what to do.

  • What type of fish for a 36 gallon aquarium?

For Christmas, I received a 36 gal aquarium. I have had fish for a year now, and have been studying about proper care, diseases, etc. but I'm still very much a beginner aquarist. My parents do know quite a lot though.

I was interested in having a community of platies, dwarf gouramis, and corys. However, I have 3 columbian tetras in a 5 gal, and I'm not really sure what to do with them. I was going to put them in the 36 gal once it's set up, so they could cycle it for the new fish. I don't know if I should keep them in the 36 gallon or put them back in the 5. I was told they may nip at fins of other fish. They can be very feisty. I used to have a dwarf frog in with them, and they would chase him around the tank if he moved. So I'm not sure what to do with them. Put them in the 36, or keep them in the 5? If I put them in the 36, what should I do with the 5? My brother also really wants me to get angelfish, but I'm not sure if I can incorporate them into the community of fish I would like. My dad said when he was a kid my grandma bought angelfish and they nipped at the fins of the other fish, so he says not to get any. I'm not sure what to do.

  • What is the Best Phone to Get?

My mom decided that I need to get a phone with my volleyball and everything, (didn't even ask for one, she just kind of decided she would get me one.) People have been telling me to get an Iphone, but I know a few others who have a Samsung Galaxy and say ts way better than an Iphone. I kind of narrowed the choices to Iphone 4s or Samsung Galaxy III, mainly because I've heard the new Iphone 5 is junk and extremely easy to wreck.

I'm not much of a texter, but I do like taking pictures and I've heard that both have pretty good cameras. I'm really not sure, since one side of my family has all iphones but the other has Samsung Galaxy.

If there are any other good phones out there, please tell me. But I don't want to pick something really expensive. For some reason, in the US you can get an Iphone 4s 16g for $99, but here in Canada its $599.

    Thanks!

  • Horse Passed Away, Having Trouble Dealing with Loss?

My horse passed away on November 27, 2012. I had only owned her for 2 1/2 years, but she mean so much to me. When my dog (who had been with me my whole life) passed away, she was there for me, I loved her so much.

I feel like its my fault she passed away. I had been so busy that week, I hadn't been spending enough time with her. Went to see her on Saturday, and she was lying on the ground because her hooves were packed with ice. for some reason they kept getting packed everyday. I picked her feet, fed her oats, brought her water. She was getting better, walking around and going to the water trough by herself. Her eyes had been so dull before, but the life was going back into them. Tuesday at lunch, my mom pulled me out of school and told me he passed away.

She was only 18. I keep telling myself she died so young because she had so many foals in the past (she was a broodmare for quite some time) but I feel like its all my fault, that I should of took better care of her.

My mom got me a piece of her tail, and she is going to get a horse hair bracelet made to remember her. I love horses, but every time I go out to see the others I think about her.

For a coupe of weeks after her passing I didn't want to get a horse again in the spring, because I felt I couldn't take care of it. Now I've decided I will be getting another horse, but in the back of my head I feel like I won't b able to take care of a horse, and it will die just like Roxy did.

I had such a difficult time dealing with my dogs death. I was just starting to accept it, and my horse passed. I get very upset and depressed over little things, even sad parts in movies or tv commercials. Even hearing my dog and horse's name mkes me upset, and I get angry at whoever says them.

My friends know me for that happy girl who has no problems, but I feel like thy don't know me at all. Sometimes I'm extremely happy with my life, and other times I feel like its not worth living without my dog and horse.

How do I deal with both of their deaths? I've come a ways since those weeks after my horses passing, but I still have a long way to go. My mom keeps telling me I have bad luck, (my flemish doe died on the same day of my horse, ending my breeding program) but that just gets me so angry. I jut don't know how to deal with this.

People always say talk to the counselor at school, but that makes me feel so childish and our school is really small. I feel like everyone in the school will know my problems if i talk to a counselor.

    Thanks.

  • What size of blanket should I get for this horse?

My sister has a horse who we were told was 16 [he's obviously much older] and the other day it was -10 and he was shivering. I know he is older than 20 as he has problems keeping weight on and his bottom lip is very droopy.

He is about 14 hands and very thin [we are working on getting his weight back up]

I was thinking maybe a 68-69? I'm not sure though and I don't know how to measure. I made a deal with her I would buy her a blanket.

    Thanks!

  • What type of fish would be good for me?

When I was young we had a few fish, and I have a 15 gallon tank with all the basic supplies. I'm what you'd call a beginner fish owner. I did have two betta fish, if that counts. I'm looking for something that won't require too much maintenance, but something pretty and intersting to watch. I don't know too much about different fish breeds. I'd also like something a little bigger, nothing smaller than 2.5".

    Thanks!

  • Are these Howrse Hacks a Scam?

I've been looking for howrse hacks and I've found a couple but you need to do a survey to download it. I'm not stupid, I checked the text at the bottom of the page and each of them have a fee. I don't have a phone so idk how I'd do that. [I don't exactly want a phone either because im not a big texter and most of my friends don't have a phone]

But anyways is it a scam? If I borrow someones cell number, and complete the survey, will it actually let me hack into howrse? Like for passes, top health energy and stuff.

    Thanks.

  • Hard Chunks of Phlegm in my Throat?

I've had this for awhile now, and it is quite annoying. Sometimes, it hurts my throat really bad. I coughed up one especially big, and my throat hurt pretty bad for as couple days.

They are these yellow greenish hard chunks that smell horrible. I can feel them in my throat all the time, and I am always having to clear my throat too.

I am certain they are not food particles, so please don't tell me that. I don't really have any other problems, only that I seem to get headaches all the time.

    Thanks.

  • What do I do About my Yearling Colt?

We got Guiness around March [I'm not good at remembering dates] when my sister's little filly died. She somehow broke her back leg right in half, and had to be put down. Our family was devastated. She was just a little baby, and I just felt sick to my stomach when I went out there and saw her leg. It was just dangling there. It was horrible.

The woman we got her from felt so bad for us, she offered the filly's half brother to us for free. It took some convincing, but we finally got him. How can you pass up a free horse? He was my boy, since I originally wanted him when we went to look at the two.

Well, the first problem was when he wouldn't load into the trailer. He freaked out. Then when we got to my house, the owner decided to put him in a pen right beside the big horses. Originally, we were going to put him with our little orphan filly, but the stinking woman had other plans. He ripped his leg open trying to jump the fence. We had to treat it for a few days, and it got better. Then, his leg got all swelled up for some reason, and puss was coming out at the bottom of his leg. We finally treated that. I soon learned she had not worked with him at all. He could hardly lead!

There was no consideration on selling him at that point. We thought we could work with him. But when my farrier came, things got disastrous. He could not pick up his feet, he would rear up and freak out. My farrier lunged him until his chest was sweaty, and he still wouldn't cooperate. He ended up cutting his chest open on the hitching post.

My farrier is a very smart man. He has been with horses all his life. He trains them, and he has helped me with many of my horse problems. He knows when a horse needs work. He told me if I ever wanted Guiness to be a good riding horse, I would have to work with him 4 hours a day, every day. He was pretty surprised when we told him only one of Guiness' nuts had dropped. He said he would be much worse when the other one dropped too.

I understand a horse takes a lot of time to train, but I don't know if I can control him. Everyone is telling me to get rid of him, that I'm going to hurt myself with him. It makes me angry to know that the woman who owned him never worked with him, and she was selling him for $1200!

I am thinking about selling him now, but who would want him? He is registered, to the ApHC and the ApHCC if I'm correct. I am not very educated in the whole registered horses thing, since my horses don't have any papers or anything. He is Appaloosa/Thoroughbred. Please do not tell me he can't be registered. I have the papers! He is registered just like his sister, his mom, and his dad!

What do I do about him? I'm not going to be devastated if you tell me I should sell him. I understand. Just please try not to be too harsh; I've tried my best.

  • Horse Problems...Moody Mare and Long Lost Papers?

Well, a lot has changed in the past few months, including a few leaves and additions of horse to our herd.

But I'm still kind of stressed (not as much around Christmas) about a few situations. Like, for instance...

We bought a broke paint mare from some people around the area. She was $2000 , which I think was a little much. Granted, she ground ties and is friendly, but its not like she's the best. She didn't neck rein good when we first got her, and she is also very mean to my other paint mare.

She used to be great under saddle, but recently she has become more skittish then normal.

So we have this cousin that came over, and it was like trued love at first sight. She learned how to ride on Dixie (the mare) and fell in love with her. Her mom was talking about how much they liked her and she wanted to buy her. Mom said she would probably never get her money back, but then Mrs.Coonan (cousins mom) offered $2000!

So it was either keep her or sell her and get a gelding.

Maybe its just because I sort of have a grudge against her, but I'd really like to get a gelding. For one, we just sold one of our horses which was her best friend, so now she's at the bottom of the pecking order. Second, she is very moody and picks on every horse except Brandy (my moms arab/qh mare).

I am more of a gelding person since they don't get as moody and they are usually laid-back when it comes to being with other horses out in a field. Its not like they kick at every horse when they have the chance.

Okay, the reason i said that was because we had our horse that we sold tied up, and Dixie stood right beside her. All of the sudden, Dixie squeals and starts kicking our horse! She would not stop, she just kept backing up and kicking her until we finally got there.

But anyways, what is the better deal?? Sell her and get a gelding, or keep her?

Okay, this one's sort of more a social question, but it relates to horses.

So while I was talking on Facebook to Cheyenne (previous owner of my paint mare) She mentioned that Roxy (my mare) is in fact registered, just that she had complications with the previous owner. So she gave me her registered name, and i searched up her pedigree. Turns out she is APHA but is half-thoroughbred. She goes back all the way To Sea-Biscuit, Man-O-War, and Northern Dancer. A few more smaller names, but whatever.

We wanted to confirm she was indeed the mare t said, so being crazy on the computer I managed to contact APHA which gave me the breeders. We mailed her the pictures. We had been waiting months, and I kept bugging mom to phone. She finally did, and we found out that my horse is who it says!

The reason it was taking so long was because Cheyenne does have certain papers, but she needs to find them to complete the process.

So, it turns out Cheyenne is too busy chasing boys then to find these papers.

My mom said not to say anything to her on Facebook, but she has probably forgot all about them by now.

What should I do? I want my girls papers real bad.

Thats more of just me venting then a question, but whatever.

Winter is always the hardest time, since it means carrying 6-8 buckets every day to the horses. I also have to water the poultry, pick eggs, feed cats and dogs. It's actually kind of weird since about 20% of the animals are mine and I seem to do all the chores (accept the rabbits which sister feeds (but I usually end up doing it))

Now, sorry for boring you, but I just really needed to vent out a litlle bit.

    :D

  • Is it normal for me to be having so much nosebleeds?

So, today I had to do a 1 Kilometer run, and to top that, I had a throat infection, and we had to do it outside, which was kind of chilly. So, I went into my option class, which is art, and I was coughing a lot, then my nose started bleeding! So I had to run to the bathroom real quick, and clean up. Now, just an hour ago, I got another one, and it was worse.

I get very nervous about nosebleeds, because last year in November, I broke my nose when I hit into a metal fence. Then, after that, my sister backhanded me in the nose, and massive blood clots were coming out.

Then, that same month, one day I woke up to find my nose bleeding.

So, I know it doesn't seem that much of a problem, but I also got one yesterday. So is 3 nosebleeds in a time period of 28 hours normal? (My nosebleed yesterday was at 5:00 pm, today the last one was 9:00 pm)

My brother explained to me that the nosebleed I had in art was because I was coughing, and it affected my sinuses, but what about the other ones?

And also, I was pushing on my nose a little bit (the bony part where a broke it, right between the eyes) , so could this have something to do with it?

I can add more info if you need, I would just really like an explanation for this.

    Thanks.

  • Which Foal Would Be Better To Get?

So, me, my sister, and my mom are thinking about getting a little foal from this lady that is selling most of her herd. They are both appy registered, and are four months old.

Guiness is a colt, and he is half thoroughbred. He did have a hernia, but it is fine now. But if we get him gelded, it might act up again, but I just fell in loive with him when I saw him. He is a dark bay, and right now he has these tan splotches riding up his legs, and he looks so cool with them.

Prima is a filly, and she is half quarter horse. She is in good health, but we have 5 mares already, and only two geldings. One is a mini, and the other gelding is over 20 years old. She is a sweetheart, but mares get so moody, and sometimes they don't get along and hurt eachother. My older mare has a collapsing muscle in her back leg because she got kicked, and one of our other mares bites and kicks at other horses when you are riding her.

When they get older, we will send them away to be trained.

We also have an orphan filly, and she is a yearling. So we want to buy one of these foals so she can have a friend, since the onyl one she has is a mini gelding, and he certainly does not play.

But then again, the reason we went to the place was to get my cousin a horse that she could ride, and im pretty sure I was even more excited then her! When we saw the foals, she kept getting mad when my sister was saying we should get Prima. Like she should be happy, she just got a horse! So whats going to happen if we do get Prima? Our orphan filly we have was actually going to be taken by my auntie (my cousins mom) but my uncle thought it was best to give her to us, since my mom knows way more about horses then her.

So I dunno whats going to happen between me and my cousin if we do get Prima?

I wanted to breed my mare before, but everyone told me that it is way easier and better to just buy a weaned foal, so know I think thats the best thing to do.

I'm just kind of mad at my cousin right now, because when I got my horse I was shaking with excitement, and I didn't talk about getting another horse for months!

But anyways, which foal would you buy? I know I shouldn't be going off topic, but it makes me so mad she wasn't that excited, then she got mad that we might get Prima!

    Well, thanks .

  • Should I Start Taking Extra Care Of My Senior Cat?

My cat, Jinxy, is 12 this year. I actually thought he was 7, but my dad told me that he is 12.

So when I heard that, I started thinking about getting him healthier.

So these measurements may be a little off, because I did them quickly.

he's 19 inches at waist (might be lower)

10 inches around neck (don't see how this matters and i think its wrong)

19 inches long (might be lower)

    and he weighs 12.5 lbs.

he has always been overweight and even though we feed him a good amount he has never really lost weight.

He also has a heart murmer and is missing both of his fangs, so im thinking maybe we should switch him to wet food.

He`s still very active and is still a very good mouser, but I want him to live a long life without any problems.

Maybe I should take him to the vetÉ but my parents wouln`t pay so how much does a vet checkup cost for a cat because I get payed 75$ a day to babysit my aunty`s kids.

I`m just really worried about my cat, so could you guys tell me what I should do and change to make sure he is healthyÉ thanks.

This one was big, about 2 1/2 inches!

This one was gross, it only had a few stringy hairs on it.

This one was not very active, I kept thinking it was dead! it was always curled up!

This guy had to be my favorite, although he didn't move too much either.

We live in Alberta, just so you all know.

I have only seen two different caterpillars before, the forest tent caterpillar and the spotted tussock caterpillar (the fuzzy black and yellow ones).

    Thanks!
