  • What can I do to get my puppy to sleep through the night?

I got a mini dachshund puppy two days ago. I crate her at night in the laundry room like I did with my other dachshund. The first night she whined, howled, and yelped then went to sleep for two hours then got up again and started to whine, howl and yelp again. Last night she cried for the whole night practically. I crate her after everyone's gone to sleep so it's not like there is anyone she can hear moving around awake.

Should I just leave her and let her cry or should I comfort her? It isn't just whining it is actual crying with yelps and howls. Should I try one more night of her being crated to see if she will adapt? Or is there something else that I do not know?

  • Is it possible to get back into bootcamp after being medically discharged?

My Marine husband's sister was medically discharged from Marine bootcamp after being diagnosed with asthma. Since she had not been diagnosed at anytime prior to bootcamp she got out not owing money or getting in trouble. The details are a little fuzzy about how everything went down, supposedly she was given the option to stay or go and she chose to go. Also supposedly the DIs were incredibly mean to her compared to everyone else (I don't believe it). Anyway, she says she wants to go back and found a way, but me and my friend (who is a Marine) don't believe it. I don't want her going back because she would get in big trouble for having asthma and them knowing about it. Although they wouldn't take her anyway because they know she has asthma -_-

Is it possible for her to get back in?

  • What do you wear under a wedding dress?

The question doesn't really describe what I really mean. I ended up moving, but had already ordered my dress and the store was very nice and they shipped it to me. When I first picked out my dress they gave me a shaper to wear underneath while trying on the dresses. It was a really nice shaper too. It had hooks in the back with three different rows. It was almost corset-esque. I can't for the life of me find the kind I want online.

Does anyone have a site I have not been able to find? Or a brand name? I really need one before I can get my wedding dress fitted. Any help finding me what I want will be very much appreciated.

  • What are the exact differences between legal separation and divorce?

I can't ask my former boss who is a judge because this matter is a bit personal so I'm going to ask complete strangers who don't know me. :D

The situation is my husband's mom told him that she is going to get a legal separation from her husband (my hubby's dad), whether she goes through with it or not is another thing -eye roll-.

What is the difference between legal separation and divorce in the state of Washington? Will he be completely free of her? Or will there still be strings attached? Would they have to remarry if he takes her back? Is he free to date other women with no adultery charges?

    Thanks in advance : )

  • A good snowboard helmet?

I was looking at the Giro Bad Lieutenant helmet and the only downside I see is there is no ventilation.

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000JLF4SI/ref=pd...

Anyone have this helmet? Any suggestions? I'm open to any brand, I just found this one and liked it. Also I know Giro is a good brand.

  • How do we tell them we aren't coming home for Christmas?

My husband and I live in Southern California. He is a Marine and he has leave before he gets deployed. This is around the holiday season. I've looked at plane fare and just about died. Basically it wouldn't be in our budget to go home.

There are also a lot of issues going on at home. His family is basically falling apart. Dad got a DUI and is awaiting trial, mom is mentally unstable, sisters in financial problems and one of them who is still in high school has moved out. My mom came and visited me last week and said it would probably be best if we didn't go home after we talked about everything that is going on. She said that it would probably way too much to deal with because everyone (his whole family, including distant relatives live in the same state) would want to see us and it would be really stressful before he leaves. Not to mention all his "friends" keep asking if he is coming home soon. I say friends in quotes because his supposed best friend wouldn't even write him in boot camp after I asked him very nicely a few times. His friend told me "I don't have time to write him." at first but then told me "We didn't hang out all that much before he left and I don't really feel the need to write him." Now he is acting all buddy buddy with my husband again. I call him a synonym to a donkey every time my husband brings him up. Basically we wouldn't get any time to ourselves. This is also his first deployment and the longest we will have been separated.

My husband and I have already agreed we are going to go to the mountains for a week and then go to Monterey to see the aquarium. Pretty much as soon as we saw the plane fare prices, it was like "So, wanna stay here for Christmas?" "Yeah, sounds great!" I must admit that I take selfish enjoyment that I get my husband all to myself for the holidays for the first time ever. I've never had just a Christmas with us. I had to cut Christmas with my family short last year so we could go to his family's house, which wasn't planned out to well. But we haven't told his family we aren't going to be coming home. They keep asking when he will be coming home.

They are very family oriented and I know are going to be disappointed he isn't coming home. Somehow I don't think saying "We didn't want to shell out the money for plane tickets and are instead going on road trips to the mountains and beach instead." is going to go over very well. I'm a very eloquent writer, but when it comes to conversation I'm rather blunt. I worry they will blame it on me even though my husband and I both agreed on this or will try something crazy like driving down here. How do we tell everyone we aren't coming home without getting them disappointed?

  • What Are Good Brands of Swimwear?

I'm looking around for triathlon swimwear for my husband and for a new suit for myself. I've looked at Speedo and I'm rather unimpressed. I've also visited TYR site and found some stuff I liked. Any other brand recommendations?

  • Do Goldfish Hate Other Species of Goldfish?

I cycled my new 50 gallon for over a month and it was finally time for fish. I got 2 ryukins and an oranda. Both are fancies with the same body type so it was good. The oranda was happy and eating. Then three days later I wake up and he is at the bottom of the tank dead with the ryukins swimming around innocently. I never once saw them chase or be nippy with the oranda. The aquarium is right next to the TV so I am watching it pretty frequently.

I returned the dead oranda for an alive one. Two days later it is dead. So instead of an oranda I bought a fantail the next time. The next day he is dead with the ryukins swimming around innocently. I made another trip to the pet store and returned the dead fantail for a ryukin. So it's been a few weeks now and everyone is alive and healthy. Are my ryukins little fishy racists?

  • Getting Back In to the Marine Corps After Being Dropped For Medical Reasons In Boot Camp

My husband is a Marine, but this question has nothing to do with him haha. His sister decided she wanted to be a Marine too (an impulse, not planned at all) and so she DEPed in and went in after 6 months of being a poolee. Close to the end of second phase she was sent to medical and diagnosed with asthma. She could have fought it, but didn't and got sent home with a medical discharge. She didn't have to pay back anything at all, which was good. Now she wants to go back in. We don't think it's possible since she is medically diagnosed and if it was she would have to jump through a lot of hoops. She isn't exactly all there if you know what I mean, she doesn't think things through and has ridiculous long term goals (one of them was becoming a pro soccer player, she's 21 O_o). Is there a process? Is it even possible?

  • Maracyn Treatment Not Over, But It's Water Change Day. What should I do?

My ryukin had "mouth fungus" (Columnaris, not a fungus), and so I started a Maracyn treatment on the aquarium. But it's water change and gravel vac day today/tomorrow and it's also supposed to be the last day of Maracyn on Sunday. Is it safe to change water or will the medicinal effect drop severely? I tested the water and the nitrites are up so I need to do a water change soon.

  • Corydora with Very Odd Behavior

So I rescued 14 corydoras from WalMart and 3 of them had fin rot. So they were isolated in the infirmary tank. One was really bad, he was missing half his tail. He keeps doing a lot of weird things. When he was in the infirmary tank he would wedge himself between the filter and the wall. He would also just let himself float at the top of the tank, really unusual for a bottom fish.

So I asked what I should after the Maracyn treatment and I was told to move them back and let the stress-free environment heal them. I moved them all back with the others. Well now in the big tank he will float to the top and won't school with the other corydoras. He will also let himself get stuck to the filter and then will get off it! The other two that were in treatment are fine and schooling. Should I isolate him again? Or did the bacteria go to his brain?

  • Why Is It Cruel to Keep a Goldfish in a Bowl?

Just a random thought while I was running at the gym. I don't keep my goldfish in bowls. They are in a 50 gallon with a Fluval 405 canister filter and a 30 gallon with a AquaClear filter. But I have wondered this for a little while, why does everyone say it is cruel to keep goldfish in a bowl? For hundreds of years they were kept in bowls in China and Japan while they were being developed into the fish they are today without filters and water treatments (example of bowls here: http://www.exoticgoldfish.net/setup.html ). I'm just so curious because whenever someone posts about a goldfish in a bowl it's like people upset over it. Is it because we have modern technology and should be using it? Or is it for other reasons?

  • My Oranda is having Issues?

Here is him two days ago

    http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b129/DethZyth/1....

He was fine this morning, I watched him eat. He is in a 50 gallon with two ryukins, both are healthy and swimming. I tested the water, no ammonia, pH is normal, no nitrates.

    Here he is now:

    http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b129/DethZyth/2....

    http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b129/DethZyth/3....

His dorsal is down, which is what got me concerned to begin with. He isn't really swimming, just kinda floating around. He will move a little, then stop. I can't see anything wrong with him besides the dorsal being down. What could be the problem?

  • Infirmary Tank Question?

I have 3 rescued corydoras in my infirmary tank at the moment. They all had severe fin rot and one was to the point that he didn't have half a tail and a really bad sore. Its the last day of Maracyn Two treatment and everyone is looking better like the sore is gone, but I haven't noticed any new fin growth.

Do I keep them in there until I see some fin growth? Put more Stress Coat in? Should I do another round of Maracyn Two? Or is back to the 50 gallon tank with their11 brothers and sisters?

  • Help, Petunias Losing Chlorphyll?

I have two petunias in my garden that are losing their green pigment. All the other petunias around it are healthy and normal. The two petunias that are losing green pigment are still stiff so they are still taking up water. Why is this happening? How can I fix it?

  • Goldfish Troubles?

I have 2 ryukins and an oranda in my 50 gallon. I just got them a few days ago. But they won't surface to eat. They are all healthy and when the flake food sinks down they will go after it and eat it. I have sinking food, but I also have Hikari Gold Baby Gold floating food (it comes in a pink package)I want them to eat. My fantail in my 30 gallon will come up to eat, but they won't! It's so frustrating.

Is there anything I can do to lure them to the top? Or am I going to have to wait for them to do it on their own? Are they adjusting to their environment? I've never had a goldfish not go for food at the top. Thanks : )

  • Aquarium Background and Decoration?

I painted the background for my 30 gallon tank. It's cherry blossoms and its on the back of the tank on the outside. I just don't like the premade ones. So I have my 50 gallon now and it has no background. It's decorated with two plants and a big Buddha head where the fish can hide. What would be a good theme background? I don't want to do cherry blossoms again.

Then I was at the store and looking at the Lego kits and there was an Avatar the Last Airbender Fire Ship. Anyone ever used Legos as decoration? I just thought it would be silly and fun to put a Lego ship in. At least it would get some use. Haha.

  • Rescued Fish?

So my husband and I rescued all the corydoras from WalMart yesterday. All 14 of them. 3 of them are in the hospital tank because of severe fin rot. The others have a bit of tattered fin. It's not terribly bad, there is one with a tattered dorsal and another has a bit of tail missing. But everyone else is happy and healthy. I put aquarium salt in and some stress coat.

Do you think I should get an antibiotic too? If so which one? I've used Jungle Parasite Clear tablets on my fantail's fin rot and it worked. But now after reading up on tail rot it can also be a fungus. So is there a general antibiotic that works for all or am I going to have to get two medicines?

  • Conundrum with the fishes...?

I just returned from an adventure to PetSmart, I live on a military base so any adventure off base is a bit of a drive. Anyway. I was dead set on ryukins, which I got two of and they are ever so pretty. The only thing is that there was this gorgeous Oranda. I'm not normally a fan of Orandas, but this one was sooo pretty. I have a 50 gallon tank...but the Oranda was HUGE compared to the Ryukins, like big as your fist. So it probably wouldn't be a good idea because the Oranda would eat all the food. I was thinking of getting a divider. They had one at the store, but it didn't look all that great. Is is possible? Or would it be cruel? Any advice on dividers? Or should I just give up on the idea?

  • 50 Gallon Tank...Now What?

So I bought a very lovely, new 50 gallon tank off of craigslist 4 weeks ago. Now it's sitting in the corner, all nice and set up, cycled. I don't know what I am going to put in it O_O It's like completely stumped me. I already have a fantail in a 30 gallon so I don't really want another one. Any suggestions of what to put in it? I kinda want a pearlscale, but no one around here carries any : (
